Re: [Dspace-tech] Internal System Error Dspace 4.0

2014-01-22 Thread Teo Tokis
Hey Eric,
it seems like a Solr's problem.
A solution to your problem is to copy the folder
[dspace-installation-directory]\webapps\solr to C:\Program Files\Apache
Software Foundation\Apache Tomcat (your version)\webapps (or wherever is
the Tomcat's installation directory).

Then you can test if Solr is working @ http://localhost:8080/solr/

Teo.

[Dspace-tech] showing a PDF in the browser (cont.)

2014-01-22 Thread Evgeni Dimitrov
When a PDF file is served by Tomcat directly, then the header says:
. . .
Content-Typeapplication/pdf
. . .
and the file is displayed by the plugin in the browser.

When the same PDF is served by DSpace, then the header says:
. . .
Content-Dispositionattachment;filename=bookPDF2.pdf
Content-Typeapplication/pdf;charset=ISO-8859-1
. . .
and the browser asks - to save or to open outside the browser.

Is this on purpose and is this configurable (I mean configurable in DSpace)?

I may be wrong, but I think the appearance of the button is only triggered
when an item is deemed to be restricted.
What is restricted? Well... you would have to check the code.

 Proposed changes:

1)It might be worth mentioning that Postgresql listens to 'localhost' by
default and that it's probably not necessary to uncomment that
listen_addresses line. That said, it wouldn't hurt anything, so it doesn't
 really matter to me.

The installed configuration may be distribution-dependent. It should
be checked. Noted in the doco.

2)In regards to pg_hba.conf, it should be mentioned that the line host
dspace dspace 127.0.0.1 255.255.255.255 md5 should be added above any
host connections that refer to all databases.

Done.

I've seen online tutorials that tell people to change the default local and
host connections (for localhost) as trust, but that's really not necessary.
In theory, it could also be dangerous as it allows any local user to access
Postgresql as any user they want.

Indeed, that is poor advice. I use 'trust' only long enough to
authenticate to Pg and set a superuser password that I know, then
replace it with 'md5' and reload the config.

[Dspace-tech] Heisenbug with item mapping in AIP import

2014-01-22 Thread Alan Orth
Hi,

I'm trying to migrate a community hierarchy between two different DSpace
instances using AIP Import (in -s mode), and I'm seeing unpredictable
behavior with mapped items.

I've been trying to identify a pattern, but so far have only identified
the following cases:

  * Some item views show only some of the collections they are mapped
to, but if you navigate to another collection you can see it there
  * Some items are mapped to incorrect collections entirely

Has anyone else noticed this? Both DSpaces are 3.1 with PostgreSQL 9.1,
on Linux of course.

Thanks,

Re: [Dspace-tech] Heisenbug with item mapping in AIP import

2014-01-22 Thread Tim Donohue
Hi Alan,

Because you are running the AIP import in -s mode, this acts as a *new
submission* and will assign *new handles* to Items, Collections and
Communities.

The reason this is important to note is that in AIPs, *handles are the
unique identifier used to maintain relationships between objects*.
Let's repeat that: *In AIPs, handles are the unique identifier used to
maintain relationships between objects* :)

What this means is the following:

* Suppose you a DSpaceInstance#1 containing an Item with Handle
1234/10 which is in a Collection with Handle 1234/2 and mapped to
another Collection with Handle 1234/5
* When you export this Item to an AIP, it with generate an AIP named
ITEM@1234/10.zip. Instead this AIP (in a METS file) will be recorded
that this Item is owned by a Collection with Handle 1234/2 and
mapped to a Collection with Handle 1234/5.
* When you *import* this Item's AIP into another DSpace
(DSpaceInstance#2) using -s option, here's what happens. By default,
-s will import the Item to whatever Collection you specify (i.e. it
ignores the parent object handle specified in the AIP). So, the Item
will end up under the Collection you expect.
* HOWEVER, Item Mappings are an entirely different issue. When it comes
to Item Mappings, DSpace will just map the Item to the Collection(s)
specified in the AIP, as unfortunately DSpace has no way to determine if
the Handle of the mapped Collections has changed or not. DSpace also
has no way to 100% verify that the Collection with Handle 1234/5 in
DSpaceInstance#2 is the SAME AS the Collection with Handle 1234/5 in
DSpaceInstance#1.

So, the problem here may be that you are using the -s option to import
Communities/Collections. When using the -s option, DSpace is going to
assign a *brand new handle* to each Community/Collection during the
import process (unless you specify --o ignoreHandle=true to keep the
existing handle). Although DSpace will retain the hierarchy of newly
submitted Communities/Collections/Items (because the --o
ignoreParent=true is default), it may have difficulty in maintaining
the *Item Mappings* between collections (as mappings are always recorded
by Collection Handle, and Collection Handles may have changed when you
moved this content between DSpace instances).

This is one of the big differences between -r (restore) and -s
(submit) modes. The former (-r) ensures that Handles are
maintained/restored (therefore item mappings everything else will be
restored properly). The latter (-s) specifically assigns *new Handles*
to all objects. This has the potential to cause issues with Item
Mapping, though a Community-Collection-Item hierarchy will work fine.

Not sure if that helps, but I think this is what you are seeing. It's
essentially a known issue, because unfortunately the only unique
external identifier DSpace has is Handles. Therefore, when an object's
Handle *changes*, attempting to maintain all mappings becomes extremely
complex.

- Tim

Re: [Dspace-tech] Heisenbug with item mapping in AIP import

2014-01-22 Thread Tim Donohue
I realized these item mapping issues were not well documented. So, I've
added a warning to the Submitting an AIP Hierarchy section of the AIP
Backup Restore docs:

https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC4x/AIP+Backup+and+Restore#AIPBackupandRestore-SubmittinganAIPHierarchy

See the warning that says Item Mappings may not be maintained when
submitting an AIP hierarchy. There's a few possible workarounds noted
there. Unfortunately, none are perfect at this time.

On 1/22/2014 10:32 AM, Tim Donohue wrote:
 Hi Alan,

Because you are running the AIP import in -s mode, this acts as a *new
submission* and will assign *new handles* to Items, Collections and
 Communities.

The reason this is important to note is that in AIPs, *handles are the
unique identifier used to maintain relationships between objects*. Let's
repeat that: *In AIPs, handles are the unique identifier used to
 maintain relationships between objects* :)

Handle *changes*, attempting to maintain all mappings becomes extremely
 complex.

2014-01-22 Thread Alan Orth
Hey, Tim.

That's an excellent explanation, thanks! I now understand the trade
offs between AIP in -s and -r mode. Re-creating item mappings is indeed
a tricky issue.

In the notes you added to the AIP docs you mention a possible strategy
for dealing with this (#3). I will have to think about the problem a
bit more and decide whether it's worth my time or not as a sysadmin, or
if I should just create my ~10 collections manually and then
export/import all items using CSV and tell my editors to suck it up and
re-map them.

We originally wanted to use AIP because a few dozen items have
bitstreams, but now it's become a problem I've spent a few-too-many
hours solving. ;)

Cheers,

Alan

If not, has this ever been possible in previous versions?

Hi Bill,

It hasn't been available since at least v.1.3. Philosophically, can it be
done? A subscription needs to be sent to an email address, and at that point
are you anonymous?

I haven't seen any discussion about it, but I think it's wise to require an
account for subscriptions. Being sure that the person asking for mail to be
sent to an account has access to the account helps ensure other people won't
nefariously sign someone up. Oh, there goes my paranoia again.

Re: [Dspace-tech] anonymous subscriptions

2014-01-22 Thread Tim Donohue
Hi Bill,

Anonymous users can subscribe via an RSS feed (as all
Collections/Communities have their own public RSS feeds).

However, anonymous users cannot subscribe for email notifications. You
must first register with DSpace / create an account (which also verifies
your email address) in order to subscribe for email updates. This is the
way it has always been (as far as I can recall).

To allow anonymous users to subscribe to email updates is actually
potentially problematic (unless you first have a step which first
verifies their email address). We obviously would not want an anonymous
user signing others up for notifications, or going in and signing up a
mailing list for notifications (essentially spamming a list). There
would need to be some form of validation that the person signing up for
email notifications *owns* that email address. So, that's why it has
been limited to persons who have a registered DSpace account.

I'll add similar comments to DS-1868 shortly, as I'm not sure it's
suggested fix is accurate either:
https://jira.duraspace.org/browse/DS-1868

Re: [Dspace-tech] assetstore

2014-01-22 Thread helix84
Hi Stacy,

an easy solution is just to add a second assetstore and set it as
incoming. That means the old one will be still used to access the
existing items and new items will be added only to the new one
(incoming). In dspace.cfg, you would set:

assetstore.dir.1 = /second/assetstore
assetstore.incoming = 1

Alternatively, if you don't want to split it up and have the available
space somewhere, move your existing assetstore to a mount point with
available space, set assetstore.dir to it and restart DSpace.

[Dspace-tech] Upgrading to Dspace 4.0

2014-01-22 Thread suren
I upgraded to 4.0 from 3.2. I am now encountering internal server error. Then
when examining it turned out that solr modules search and statistics is
not loading. Yes it was already there in upgrade section

Format error

Caused by: org.apache.lucene.index.IndexFormatTooOldException: Format
version is not supported (resource: segment _386q in resource
ChecksumIndexInput(MMapIndexInput(path=/space/dspace/solr/statistics/data/index/segments_37m6))):
2.x. This version of Lucene only supports indexes created with release 3.0
and later.

But to solve this, I renamed the data folder under /dspace/solr/search/data
and /dspace/solr/statistics/data and created new data folders. Then
restarted tomcat. But still I am getting internal server error.

This is what I see in dspace log.

Well, I have IP authentication for all the collections.

I still wonder how that request a copy button is seen for some collections by
default and not all. Any help from the code developers, please?

Hi Ribin

I may be wrong, but I think the appearance of the button is only triggered
when an item is deemed to be restricted.
What is restricted? Well... you would have to check the code.

installed and restored my old dspace. Request a copy button is missing in

[Dspace-tech] R: DOI DATACITE

2014-01-22 Thread Massimiliano Cilurzo
Hi Pascal,

We have a contract with DataCite, and they have given to us username
and password. I have followed the instructions in the documentation and
inserted my credentials in dspace.cfg then I have done some change in the
DIM2DataCite.xsl( xsl:variable name=publisherMy university name
/xsl:variable) and finally I have removed the comment signs in the file
identifier-service.xml.

After that I have inserted an new submission, I have seen that there was in
the Doi table of the dspace database a new row for that item. But when I use
the command line to reserve or register the DOI the system answer that there
0 object for reservation/registration.

If I try to execute the command dspace doi-organiser -l, the system say :
command not found.

The only way to insert the item in Datacite for now is to insert it
manually, from the datacite site.

Thanks for your help

Best regards

Massimiliano

Hi Massimiliano,

did you entered into a contract with a DOI registration agency? Did they
provide you a username, a password and a (test-)prefix? Are you sure, they
want you to use the DataCite API directly?

If you followed the instructions in the documentation, DSpace should mint
DOIs whenever new items gets published into the repository. With “publish” I
mean that the item is part of your repository, can be found using the normal
search, and is not waiting for the user to finish the submission or for an
administrator to accept it. The DOI is stored as metadata value of the item
in the field dc.identifier.uri. So If you take a look on the published item
you should find it there. As the documentation describes DSpace uses an
asynchronous mechanism to register DOIs. Using the command line interface
(https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC4x/DOI+Digital+Object+Identifier#DO
IDigitalObjectIdentifier-CommandLineInterface) you can list all DOIs waiting
for reservation and/or registration. So, do you already have published an
item after you configured DSpace to use DOIs? What happens if you executes
[dspace-install]/bin/dspace doi-organiser -l?

Regards,

  Pascal

[Dspace-tech] R: DOI DATACITE

2014-01-22 Thread Massimiliano Cilurzo
Hi Pascal,

I have executed dspace doi-organiser in the wrong directory.

When I execute bin/dspace doi-organiser -l?

The system answer is:

There are no DOIs queued for reservation.

There are no DOIs queued for registration.

DOIs queued for update:

doi:10.,10.5072/unisa-1 (belongs to item with handle 123456789/479)

doi:10.x,10.5072/un-2 (belongs to item with handle 123456789/480)

doi:10.x,10.5072/unisa-3 (belongs to item with handle 123456789/481)

doi: 10.5072/unisa-6 (belongs to item with handle 123456789/486)

There are no DOIs queued for deletion.

When I go in the Datacite site, I can’t see any of this item.

Thanks

Kind regards
