[Dx4win] Hawai'i

2006-08-08 Thread John Buck
Hi Jim,

You had it right the first er second time.
The name of the State is Hawai'i. The name of the Big Island is
Hawai'i. The name of the county is Hawai'i. These are locations in the
United States and the language is English. Hawaii is commonly used but
is not the correct name for any of the above. The state maps and signs
are gradually being changed. I do not call this a part of the set of so
called culturally sensitive issues. The use of the word Hawaii without
the glottal stop is just a mistake that is slowly being corrected.

It is too bad that some so called experts wish to continue with errors.

This reminds me that when the US renamed a famous area to honor Jack
Northrop the founder of the Northrop Aircraft Corporation and father of
the flying wing aircraft design. They got it wrong and named it
Northrup Field. And kept it wrong on the maps.

Aloha,
John KH7T

Jim,
Please eliminate potential for confusion and follow the DXCC
spelling. Hawaii should be Hawaii.

[Dx4win] MicroHam, SteppIR and DX4WIN

2006-08-08 Thread Ken - N5TY
Yes, I have that setup in the shack. It is not stable in that the
SteppIR box mis-reads the radio frequency once every few minutes and sends
the antenna slewing. The typicall mis-read is in the 50 to 60 mHz range.
While I have not proven to myself that the same misread does not occur with
Writelog or DXBase 2006, but I have never observed it mis-reading with
either of those programs. I am in the process of adding an audio alert to
the slewing antenna to continue testing.

This is mis-read does not seem like it should be software program related
and will require additional testing to conclude one way or the other.

Does anyone have a similar configuration running but using DX4WIN instead
 of DXBase?
In my case, the radio would be an Orion instead of the Yaesu.

Page 20 of the BigIR manual shows the SteppIR RS-232 Y cable:
   www.steppir.com/pdf/biggir%20instruction%20manual%2024%20pages.pdf

I would use that in the CAT line between the microKEYER and the
FT-1000MP. The SteppIR connector labeled Computer will connect
to the FT-1000MP, the SteppIR connector labeled Radio will
connect to the DB9 from the microHAM cable.

Under normal conditions the SteppIR controller will not track
automatically when using DXBase logging software because DXBase
does not continuously poll the radio. microKEYER's polling will
enable tracking with DXBase and the SteppIR.

Hello gang, I am working my way through a huge box of QSL cards, and I have
two questions.

* A KL7 station in 'Kenai Peninsula County', although this is not one of the
4 possbile counties according to DX4WIN. Does anyone know what county this
represents?

* Printing labels.
I get a QSL from a station whom I QSO'ed two times, but the QSL is only for
one of those two contacts. I confirm the QSL'ed contact and put both label
fields to 'yes'. Then it prints two labels: one with the confirmed and
another with the unconfirmed QSO. How do I get ALL contacts on ONE label
regardless of confirmation status?

Hi Franki,

I used to live there and operated as
WL7M. That's considered South Central by DX4WIN.

Does the QSL show a town? If so, I have a USPS directory
that shows the county for ALL US towns.

The reason that you have the problem is that you are requesting 2 labels I
suspect; one that says Tnx QSL, and the other that says PSE QSL !!

I try to confirm all QSO's when people request extra QSO's with MD4K, of
which I am the manager!

If I receive a card (I am dealing with a buro drop of about 1000 now!); I
confirm all QSO's be selecting yes; actually using the F2 key. This only
prints to one label.

Errr, not that I know. At least I didn't set it up like that. How can I
check that?

I have F2 set to 'mark QSO as confirmed and set print flag to Y' - so I set
the print flag manually for other QSOs that are unconfirmed.
Confirmed QSOs are printed on a label, unconfirmed printed on another label.
