Re: [Dx4win] WMR RigTalk slow response time

This unit was bought to replace (or backup) my Radio Shack scanner interface which has been controlling my Icom IC756ProIII with good (fast response) for several years, via DX4WIN. After installing the RigTalk (on a new com port) per the WMR directions, the unit will control the radio but with VERY slow response. The WMR driver shows up in Device Manager/Ports. It takes 3 to 4 seconds for the Icom to respond to a frequency change using the tuning dial or a band change. I have turned the Band Map on and off with no improvement. Conversely, the Radio Shack interface shows almost instantaneous response when installed. Do I understand this correctly - hooking this interface up between your computer and the rig causes the tuning knob on the rig itself to stop working correctly? What happens if you use Stop Radio on DX4WIN? Does that restore things to normal? The only thing I can think of offhand is to check that CI-V Transceive is off on your rig. Otherwise, it seems pretty odd. A call to WMR yielded two suggestions: Try assigning yet another, different comport. Try a different logging program 8(... Neither suggestion eliminated the RigTalk delay problem. I was going to suggest one of the CI-V test programs to eliminate DX4WIN. If you've already done that, it seems likely that either your RigTalk is broken. If you haven't tried something different, I'd suggest giving CI-V Test a try: http://www.plicht.de/ekki/software/civtest.html or CI-V Commander. I've used both an eBay noname USB CI-V interface and an interface from HoseNose using DX4WIN 8.x and it's working fine. 73, -Rick -- Rick Murphy, CISSP-ISSAP, K1MU/4, Annandale VA USA __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

[Dx4win] Automatic File Backup
Over the years I have been a very satisfied user of Iomega's Automatic Backup software. It would monitor my Save directory files and whenever one of them would change, it would automatically move a copy of it to a backup directory. Perfect for D4W. Iomega no longer produces or supports their Automatic Backup Software and their last available version will not operate under Windows 7 64-bit. Is there another product others have found that duplicates Iomega's Automatic Backup functionality under Windows 7 64-bit? Re: [Dx4win] Automatic File Backup
I use SyncBackSE. There is a very useful free version. You can upgrade to a more complete version for a nominal charge which is what I use. It has features such as backing up open files and backing up to FTP servers which you probably don't need. http://2brightsparks.com/ I'm sure there are others. HP/Compaq machines incude a backup utility and the current version of Winzip does too. To do a very basic backup you can use the tools that come with Windows. Re: [Dx4win] Automatic File Backup
Thanks, Mel. I will checkout SyncBackSE. The thing I liked about the Iomega package was it would automatically detect in real-time when a file was modified and then back it up even if it was still open. It also gave you the option of how many revisions to keep before deleting the oldest ones. I've been Googling the subject and found several $50-$60 packages. I don't mind paying a fair price for a good product, I was just curious what other D4W users were using. Thanks for the referral. Dick At 01:38 PM 5/23/2010, Mel wrote: I use SyncBackSE.
