Hi trying to setup MMTTY as per dx4win but the link is Not working?
The MMTTY program is not included as part of DX4WIN; you will need to
download and install the program separately. Visit the MMTTY website to
download the software at http://mmhamsoft.amateur-radio.ca/mmtty.
Anyone have a webpage that works?
Tnx,

Re: [Dx4win] RTTY & dx4win latest version

2016-01-22 Thread Dave Perry, N4QS
MMTTY can also make use of an external sound card such as Signalink USB or
any other sound card installed in your Windows software. Open the MMTTY
window in DX4WIN, select Option tab in MMTTY, then Soundcard tab and select
the sound card that you would like to use. As someone suggested earlier, if
you have an external soundcard for RTTY, it is good practice to ensure that
your computer soundcard is selected as the default in Windows--while the
appropriate external soundcard for RTTY is selected in MMTTY as the one it
will use. This ensures that computer generated sounds and beeps do not get
sent to your radio.

Bernie, off the top of my head, the RTTY window was to operate RTTY with
external hardware devices that had a COM port interface, like a HAL or TNC.
The MMTTY window interfaces to the MMTTY software which makes use of your
computer's sound card.

[Dx4win] FW: JT44 mode issue!

2016-01-20 Thread Dave Perry, N4QS
Ernie,

I too would like to see some updates from Paul. In the meantime, try this
to get JT44 contacts to update DXCC totals:

Go to Preferences, Awards, ensure that first tab - DXCC - is highlighted,
then in the lower left box, make sure that there is a check mark for JT44.
You can do the same for other modes and awards if desired.

This should ensure that JT44 counts for your DXCC Digital totals.

I hope this helps.

Subject: [Dx4win] JT44 mode issue!

I still use DX4Win, despite the authors complete lack of interest for the
past five or so years.

But the problems I don't like with the program continue to add, and have
just about reached the limit of my patience.

For instance, there is no way to easily maintain existing name and QTH
information in the 'Notes for this QSO' field when there is a change in
either/both the callsign owners name or, much more commonly, his QTH. Not
life threatening but, for me, irritating. Yes, you can use the 'Notes for
this call' box, but that's messy, to say the least.

Then, I found out (as we all did) that DX4Win will not record a proper
signal report for JT type modes - so I make do with manually recording it in
the 'Notes for this QSO' box, and handwriting the report in the body of my
QSL card - I have a 'Comment' line on my card, so it doesn't look 'too' bad!

Then, I found out that I could not correctly record my JT9 QSOs - again a
workaround, I make do with calling them 'JT44' QSOs, for the sole purpose of
'housing' them within DX4Win. But the QSL card was now looking distinctly
messy before my 'manual intervention' corrects the mess. Yes, I could use an
external label printing program - but why should I have to?

Today, quite by accident (in fact, absolutely by accident) I found that, in
recording 'JT9' QSOs as 'JT44' QSOs, that a JT44 QSO has no effect (again, I
repeat, NO effect) on my DXCC totals - it does not update them. Unless
someone can point out the error of my ways - in which case I will gladly
stand corrected. So, I temporarily recorded all JT9 (JT44) QSOs as RTTY
QSOs, and found two band/mode fills. Remember, when you are a keen DXer,
small fish are sweet!

The bitterness/frustration that you can possibly note in my writing is
because a wonderful program, that I still fundamentally really like, is
becoming a bit of a laughing stock among my contemporary VK mates, all of
who have urged me to 'move on' to a more modern logger, or at least one that
is still supported. Because NONE of them have these sorts of problems.

In fact, it is wasn't for the sensational efforts of Jim AD1C over the past
five years and the helpful hints to all over a long period from Guy ON4AOI,
I fear DX4Win would have already fallen over - 'cause it is patently clear
that Paul does not give a damn.

So, two questions -

(1) Can anyone verify that recording a QSO in 'JT44' mode doesn't update
DXCC totals - or, if it does, tell me where I went wrong, and

(2) Does anyone actually know if Paul is still alive, and could ask him
what his intentions for DX4Win are. If it's to take no further effective
interest, just tell us. We could all move on. That's the easy bit.

Sorry for the 'cry' - but, by God, it's getting so frustrating.

How big of a deal would it be for Paul to support the XMMT.ocx

I have no idea what is involved in a change to the RTTY interface code in
DX4Win. The interface is publicly documented in the MMTTY Programmers
Info and can be used freely. Developers of DXLab Suite, Logger32, N1MM
Logger and WriteLog have all either replaced the traditional *.exe interface
or supplemented it with the added *.ocx interface for MMTTY and/or 2-Tone in
the last year.

One benefit of including (or switching to) the *.ocx interface would be the
ability to replace the old PSKcore PSK31 support with MMVARI which would
instantly provide BPSK63/125 and MFSK as well as multi- channel PSK/MFSK
receive capability.

Re: [Dx4win] Band Map

2013-08-01 Thread Dave Perry, N4QS
Hal,

I finally had a chance to test the bandmap on 12, 10 and 6 again as you and
Jim, AD1C requested. It works fine on all bands with my K3. It will move
the red arrow up and down as I tune the rx. It will jump to any spot
(callsign) on the band whenever I double click on that spot -- either from
the DX Spots window or the bandmap window. I have been active on 6M this
summer, and I frequently use the bandmap to jump from one spot to the next
on that band. It essentially tracks the Radio Frequency control window that
I always have open when using DX4WIN. When the frequency is read from the
K3 and updated in the Radio Frequency control window, it updates the
frequency by moving the red arrow on the bandmap simultaneously. But I just
closed that window and the bandmap still works fine on its own. It also
tracks any frequency changes that I make using any of the memories from the
K3. I just noticed that when the K3 is in split mode, the bandmap tracks
the VFO B frequency. When I turn split off, it immediately goes back to
tracking VFO A. All of this testing was done on 10M. But it works fine on
all bands.

Subject: [Dx4win] loss of qsl dates

I recently discovered that all my QSL dates were missing from my log. The
computer that the log is on sometimes reboots by itself so I don't know if
there is any correlation.

I discovered the missing data when some QSL cards arrived and I attempted to
enter the data into the program. I noticed that there was no QSL dates that
represented the dates I sent the QSL cards to the other hams. I entered
the date of April 20, 2013 as an approximate sending date as I did a large
batch of cards around that time. At first, I figured that I missed a few
dates in the log, but checking on the LOG display, I noticed that there were
no dates going back to my first entries in 1957 except my April 20th dates.

Any ideas ?

I do have a back-up done 6 months ago, but I don't know how I would only
enter the QSL dates and not affect any other data.

Is this an unusual event to lose all the data in one field throughout the
program?

If you want to see all stations worked on a band, double click on the

being displayed in the country field, just click on the blank grayed out box
in the upper left hand corner of the Country window.

I have been using DX4WIN since Ver. 1.10, but just recently decided to
print labels since I started chasing the ARRL DXCC Challenge Award. In the
Country Window, if there is a W under a band/mode, I can double click on
it to see who and how many QSO's I've had on that band/mode. After I choose
a station the send a QSL and print out the label, the W becomes a M. If
I now double click on that band/mode M, the only call that appears is the
call of the station I sent to for a card. Is there some setting that I
missed to keep all the calls showing?
If yes, please tell me how to change my present settings.

2013-01-20 Thread Dave Perry, N4QS
Hi Evert,

Welcome to DX4WIN. It does not auto-connect, but it does save the most
recent dx-cluster that you connected to at the top of the list. So it is
easy to find your favorite the next time you start DX4WIN. I actually use
CC User by VE7CC to stay connected to may favorite cluster outside of
DX4WIN. I then connect DX4WIN to CC User by using the following address:
localhost:7300.

This link tells you how to do this: http://www.w4gkf.com/dxcluster

You should also refer to the excellent support by AD1C by going to this
link:

Click on Jim's Applications Notes for many good tips on how to setup and use
DX4WIN.

Re: [Dx4win] second log

2012-12-14 Thread Dave Perry, N4QS
Steve,

This doesn't answer your question, but I am wondering if you have considered
making your contest station call a second group within your master log?
There are several advantages if you do that. First, when you download from
Lotw, it will download both calls at once. It also allows you to see
contacts with stations across multiple calls. I setup N4QS as my default
group and then added V31QS as group 1. I am going to Grand Cayman next year
and will add that log as group 2. My users of DX4WIN manage multiple calls
like this using the groups feature. Just something to consider. BTW, you
can then setup group filters to view just one of the groups at a time --
very handy for running reports by group, QSLing, etc.

Re: [Dx4win] LotW Backlog continues to grow ...

2012-12-12 Thread Dave Perry, N4QS
Yes, Rick is right. You just open up TQSL Cert and make a couple of clicks
with the mouse. Here are the instructions right out of the Lotw website:

Requesting A Signed Certificate

Once you have a certificate for your primary callsign you may have old calls
or secondary calls which you want to upload log data to LoTW. All
subordinate calls will have a signed certificate. By having certificates
signed by the primary call certificate all of your QSO data will be kept in
one account.

Use this procedure for appended calls such as W1AW/m, W1AW/p, KP2/W1AW, etc

Here is what you do:

1.Open TQSL CERT
2.In the menu bar select FILE - NEW CERT REQUEST
3.Request a new certificate for your old call or secondary call.

.DO NOT REQUEST SIGNED CERTIFICATES FOR PRIMARY CLUB CALLS. Club calls
cannot be combined with personal accounts. Please see the section about
club callsigns

Beginning Date
.Be sure to use the correct BEGIN when this call was issued to you. If
you are not certain about this date then use the date of the earliest entry
in your log when you operated with this callsign.

.DO NOT use the default date of 1945-11-01. Using the default date
could cause you to upload QSOs that do not belong to this call when you used
it.

Ending Date
.Enter the ending date when you retired this callsign. If you are not
certain about this date then use the date of the last entry in your log when
you operated with this callsign.

.If the call is still current then leave the end date open.

Not much to it!

Agreed. Signing up for multiple portable operations is no big deal.

But, each non-USA station must send a copy of his/her operating license plus
a copy of a government issued ID such as drivers license, passport to this
place in Newington. If I asked my local commissar in Blockavia if I should
do this, he would probably have me locked up for being so stupid... I am
certainly not going to send copies of my drivers license / passport to a
foreign country, thru the 'mail' to get an award with the certainty my ID
will be stolen... So,I don't think it's lazy, just common sense...
It's bad enough sending Green Stamps that never arrive...

and the difficulty of signing up their multiple portable operations.

There is absolutely no issue of singing a portable operation once you have
the initial certificate. It takes less than one business day unless the
operation is from a location that has specific access and licensing
requirements. Even then, it's no more difficult than sending the same
documentation to ARRL that would be needed to be accepted for DXCC
(typically copy of license and landing permit).

Anyone who complains about the sign-up process is too lazy to send copies of
license and ID (equivalent to ham ticket and drivers
license) with a valid mailing address and wait for the password to be mailed
to the address on the ID.

In many cases the process can be short circuited by providing the
documentation in person at one of the many international conventions
ARRL/DXCC/LotW staff attend on a regular basis.

Agreed - 8 days 14 hours!  At the current rate of growth the delay
will be 9 days before tomorrow.  Here are the latest numbers I have:

Upload Time           Time Processed      Elapsed Time
 ==**=
 2012/11/23  18:00    2012/11/27  00:43    3  06:43:34
 2012/11/28  22:32    2012/12/05  02:08    6  03:35:10
 2012/11/29  18:38    2012/12/06  05:10    6  10:32:20
 2012/11/30  00:58    2012/12/06  18:24    6  17:26:26

 2012/12/01  08:20    2012/12/08  19:09    7  10:49:15
 2012/12/01  12:30    2012/12/09  01:10    7  12:40:49
 2012/12/02  05:00    2012/12/10  19:31    8  14:31:29

The delay is growing out of control - between 12/1 and 112/2 there
were 2.5 times as many QSOs uploaded as LotW processed and LotW has
been processing an *average* of 11,000 QSOs per minute or about
264,000 QSOs per day based on the information on the home page.

If one plots a trend line, the delay is growing exponentially.
The trend indicates a file uploaded *today* is not likely to be
processed *for more than five weeks* based on the current rate of
growth in the backlog.  Based on the processing time for files
uploaded at 0500z on 12/2, there were about 2.25 million unprocessed
QSOs in the queue at that time - and that was 48 hours *after* the
deadline for submitting CQWW CW logs.
With the trend in growth between 11/25 and 12/2, the queue could hold
as many *10 million* unprocessed QSOs (although that is unlikely)!

I know the folks in Newington are saying trust us, but their
performance - and complete failure to provide *current data* -
particularly the failure to provide accurate current status on the
size of the processing queue - makes trust very difficult.

John and Tom,

I just confirmed the same behavior with the REV button running XP. My K3
timed out after about 20 seconds. I have a subRX on my K3, so I never use

then listen to both frequencies at the same time. The workaround is to use
the A/B button as John suggests. I wonder if a change to the radio control
file in DX4WIN would fix this time out problem when pressing the REV button.

Look's like the new one to me. I did not try to unzip the file yet.

 Hi Folks,

I just logged into the ARRL Logbook of the World web site and noticed
that TQSL has been updated from version 1.11 to version 1.13. They
claim you can't request/renew certificates unless you have the new
 version.

[Dx4win] Fw: Creating New Log from Existing Log

2010-09-27 Thread Dave Perry N4QS
Fred,

I would create a group within your log for you new QTH. Just go to Filter,
Selection and create a new Group Filter. That way you can see all the
contacts with a given call that you made prior to AZ as well as from your
new QTH. This is especially handy if you keep the Same Call and Logbook
windows open when using DX4WIN. The Same Call window shows the group name
for every contact. You can rename groups to make them easier to recall.
Just to go Filter, Edit Group Names. You might want to name the new group
Arizona. You can make the AZ group your default group by selecting its
group number by going to File, Preference and QSO. See group in upper
right
 corner.

You will find that the group functions within DX4WIN are very powerful and
easy to use. Others may know of other ways to use and refer to groups.

[Dx4win] Using Steppir with DX4WIN

2010-08-26 Thread Dave Perry N4QS
I am getting ready to order a Steppir yagi but want to make sure I order the
correct cables. I use both DX4WIN and N1MM for logging. DX4WIN has built in
support for controlling Steppir antennas. The documentation indicates that I
can continue to use COM1 to connect my pc to my K3 and then I can use another
com port (in my case COM5) to connect my pc to the Data/In port on the SDA100
controller. With this setup, DX4WIN will apparently poll the K3 and pass the TX
frequency automatically to the SDA100 controller whenever the TX frequency
changes. Does this cabling scheme sound right?

Is this approach better than using a Y cable and having the SDA controller
listen
for any frequency exchanges between the pc and the K3?

I am also wondering whether or not N1MM can support Steppir in the same
way. Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Re: [Dx4win] Deleting older versions?

2010-08-08 Thread Dave Perry N4QS
Jim,

Just for the record, I uninstalled the lpt driver as you suggested. I then
reinstalled it under 8.04. However, it prompted me to install the driver in
the dx4w803\lptdriver folder -- which would have put it right back in the
folder that I had just uninstalled. So I merely typed in a new directory
and selected the main dx4w804 directory under Program Files. Works fine.
Your emails about deleting older versions prompted me to do just that
yesterday. I also upgraded to 8.04 without a hitch.

BTW, nice working you in the NAQP yesterday.

One thing to add (based on an experience I just had trying to remove 8.03):

In DX4WIN 8.0x, first uninstall the LPT driver by going into the:

  dx4w803\lptdriver

directory and running unins000.exe.

Then uninstall that version of DX4WIN. Otherwise, the lptdriver
directory won't be removed.

You will need to run the lptdriver installation again with your most
recent version of DX4WIN if you need it.

The installation process for new versions does not touch the older ones.

 1. Use the usual Windows Control Panel Add/Remove programs icon to
uninstall them (in Vista/Win7, I believe it's just called Programs).

 -or-

 2. Go into each DX4W### directory you want to remove and double-click
 on the unins000.exe application.

Subject: WPX, WAZ, County Windows Not Showing LOTW QSO's as Confirmed

 Hello,

Not sure why I didn't notice this before but today I saw that although
DX4WIN shows QSO's confirmed via LOTW in the Main, Country, and Same Call
windows, these same QSO's are only shown as worked in the WPX and WAZ
 windows.

For example: I have VP6DX confirmed via LOTW on all bands, 80-10, SSB and
CW, but those confirmations only show up in the Main Window, Same Call
and Country windows. In the WAZ and WPX windows these QSO's are only
 shown as worked.
Going through my log I see this same situation with other LOTW-confirmed
 calls: ZL1BYZ, VK4MA, ZK3OU, 5W0OU, DR1A, S79GM, TX4T, and KL7J, to name
 a few.

Confirmed LOTW QSO's with HH4/K4QD and TG9IRP show L in the WPX window
but confirmed in the Main,Same Call, and Country windows.

This situation also exists with stateside contacts in the County window.
As an example, I recently worked N4RJ in McIntosh county during the 2010
GA QSO Party. I received an LOTW confirmation but there was not a
corresponding change in the county window as it still shows Worked vice
Confirmed. N4RJ is one of several contacts that have this same problem.

Also, as the QSO's mentioned above were all confirmed via LOTW, that
seems to be the common thread in this situation. When I import a LOTW
file from the LOTW website I use the option Imported QSO sets LOTW
 Confirmed flag.

In the Main window, if I also check the Confirm box (as if I received a
paper QSL) then the WPX and WAZ windows do show a confirmed vice worked
 status.

 Under Preferences|Station I have checked all bands 160-10 (except 60);
SSB/CW/PSK31 under Modes; and Phone/CW/Digital in the Mode group.

Under Preferences|Import I have Accept DX4WIN values displayed and
under Error Reporting I have Prefix differences checked, which I
 believe is the default value.

I have received occasional lotwreport.notfound reports after doing an
LOTW download. Admittedly, I did not pay much attention to them as I saw
that the QSO's listed on these reports did show up as confirmed in the
Main, Same Call, and Country windows. However, looking more closely at
an old report I see that the calls on one of these reports don't show up
as confirmed in one or more of the windows mentioned above (WPX, WAZ,
County) but do show up as confirmed in the Main, Same Call, and Country
 windows.

I downloaded update.bat when Jim, AD1C, made it available and I run
that on a fairly regular basis.

 I am using v 8.03 and Win XP, SP3.

Any ideas as to what I have missed or have not checked?

Do I need to import from LOTW twice, once using the Imported QSO sets
the confirmed flag and then import the same file again using the
Imported QSO sets the LOTW confirmed flag?

 Thanks in advance.

Re: [Dx4win] Filter settings reversed

2009-11-20 Thread Dave Perry N4QS
Jim,

Yes, I got it fixed thanks to Tom, W4KX. Here is what he sent me:

The problem is with the rig file (X4), which includes an errant command to
NORM the vfo whenever VFO B is selected (you can see this yourself when
you double click on a spot and the display will briefly show NORM).

The current commands sent to the rig under a Select VFO B is invoked are
K31;SWH58;SWT13;SWT13;K30;

It's the SWH58 command that norms the radio. So, just change the rig file
for Select VFO B to:

K31;SWT13;SWT13;K30;

and you will be all set!

All I did modify the X4 righ file by deleting the one command SWH58 as he
suggested. Works fine now. Some people may want to norm their filters when
they go into split. Not me. I like keeping my filter settings for both RXs
the same.

This has come up with exporting logs to Club Log. At present the
only way to apply LoTW cfm to CL statistics is to upload
lotwreport.adi on top of you log from DX4WIN.

That works of but requires more processes to keep track of and when
the log starts to get a bit of size, 10's of MB's uploads to achieve.

 Hi John,

If you're using DX4WIN 8.0x, no change is needed. I looked at my ADIF
 export and saw this:

 LOTW_QSL_SENT:1Y LOTW_QSLSDATE:8:d20070104 LOTW_QSL_RCVD:1Y

These are all standard ADIF fields. Maybe Club Log needs to be
trained to recognized these ADIF fields.

as the device type and LPT1 as the port. Works great in both versions 7.07
and 8.01. The first two letters are not being joined. Using Windows XP.

 Hi Oms,

I tried to test this, but I realized that I have a WinKey interface,
and it doesn't have the problem. I do not have COM or LPT ports on my
 ham computer.

Can someone else who is using a COM or LPT port interface for the CW
 keyer please test this?

Oms, are you using a COM port or a LPT port CW interface?

Some body else has noticed that?

The way that the report generator works is causing me a problem.

Using QSL and LOTW as confirmation for DXCC when the log is up-loaded to
LOTW all contacts are reported as M. I now have no easy way of knowing
which stations that I should send a QSL to after waiting an appropriate time
to see if they show up on LOTW.

QSO's that get up-loaded to LOTW should not be reported as M, they should
be reported with some other letter or not at all until confirmed.

Anyway that is my opinion.

Re: [Dx4win] 8.01 REPORT GENERATOR

2009-08-06 Thread Dave Perry N4QS
Dave,

I agree with your comments on the M issue.

This is a show stopper in my opinion. I do not see how I can manage sending
off QSL cards if Lotw uploads are displayed as M in the DXCC Listing. This
makes no sense. M should only appear when an actual QSL has been printed
and mailed. Should have nothing to do with uploads to Lotw or eQSL. I
upload to Lotw frequently and often wait for a while before I send a QSL.
These uploaded contacts should continue to be listed as W like they were in
7.07.

I have found another problem. The worked cutoff (Files, Preferences,
Personal) no longer appears to work. In version 7.07 I had the worked
cutoff set for 3650 days (10 years). This value converted over in 8.0, but
the cutoff is not working. My DXCC summary totals now show a much higher
number for Total Worked due to this issue. When I go back to 7.07 and
change the value to 0 for worked cutoff, I get the same number of Total
Worked as in ver 8.0 with the value set to 3650.

I may have to revert back to 7.07 for a while and let the dust settle.

Re: [Dx4win] V8.01 Observations (long)

2009-08-04 Thread Dave Perry N4QS
Randy,

I too am excited that Paul finally implemented a start date for DXCC CW. I
also have QSOs dating back to 1967. I have been comparing the Summary
totals and the Listing totals for CW between ver 8.0 and 7.07. I personally
like the way that Paul has implemented the DXCC Listing for CW. For
example, I have a CW contact with ZL4OL/A from 1971 that I had submitted for
DXCC Mixed and 20M Band credit. Prior versions would always attempt to
submit this contact for DXCC CW credit. Now it does not. When I do a DXCC
Listing for CW mode, there is an asterisk on 20M for that contact -- and
that is correct since I did make a CW contact on that band -- and I want to
see it since I may have submitted it for DXCC Band/Challenge credit.
However, the new Listing for CW does not have an asterisk for that contact
under the first column which is CW mode. And that is correct also, since it
occurred prior to 1975. The Listing also works fine for Deleted Countries
prior to 1975. For example, I have a number of KZ5 contacts on CW that
prior versions would always try to submit for CW credit. The Listing shows
asterisks on the bands on which I made those QSOs on CW, but does not show
an asterisk under the CW mode column -- which is exactly the way that I
would want the data displayed.

I also like the new band map. I still do not see a way to easily submit
both Lotw and Card confirmations for DXCC. I wish the Submission report
would list how the contacts were confirmed -- e.g. Lotw, Card, etc. That
way I could more easily separate out Lotw submissions from Card submissions
when making an online submission of both types via the Lotw website.

But I am placing my order for 8.0 tonight!

Subject: [Dx4win] V8.01 Observations (long)

I downloaded and had a look at the new version today. I don't yet
have my license key, but I was able to import my version 7 log and
check out some of the new features. Importing the Version 6/7 format
log file into Version 8 was absolutely trouble free. I did have to
re-do some of my custom Logbook Report formats to account for the new
fields, but this was no problem at all. All of my Selections and
 Group definitions imported perfectly.

I'm especially glad to see the improvements to the LOTW record
keeping and the elimination of the need to explicitly filter the log
by date selection to get accurate DXCC CW statistics. The testing
I've done so far has concentrated on checking out the DXCC CW
reporting. Unfortunately, I have found some problems.

I have around 56K QSOs in my log, the vast majority being CW. The log
files go back to 1965, so there are a good many CW QSOs in the log
that were made prior to being eligible for CW DXCC credit. Some of
these have been submitted for Mixed and Band DXCC credit. I also keep
track of my DXCC records using a fairly elaborate Excel spreadsheet
and make sure it's updated every time the DX4WIN log changes and/or I
receive new DXCC credits from ARRL. My standard procedure is to do a
quick compare of the DX4WIN DXCC Summary reports against this
spreadsheet each time after importing LOTW data or making any other
 changes to the log.

I checked out the Version 8 DXCC Summary reports and found right away
that regardless of the selection made in the dropdown boxes the
Summary report ALWAYS gives the stats for All Bands / All Modes. The
good news is that these stats are completely accurate, including the
CW numbers. I tried all combinations of the Modes and Bands
dropdown choices and always got the All modes / All bands report.

I then took a look at the Listing reports for various band and mode
combinations. To use the Listings data, I use the Write to File option
to dump the report data to csv format to import into Excel. It's
disappointing that while the Listing report format has changed
slightly, it STILL uses the asterisk (*) character to designate
Checked status. The asterisk is a special wild card character in
Excel, and directly importing the csv file makes it impossible to
edit and manipulate the data -- weird things happen. This means I
still need to first run the csv file through Wordpad or some similar
text editor to do a search and replace of the asterisk with some
other character so I can use the file in Excel. It would be real nice
if the report output used some other character to show Checked status.

All of the DXCC reports except for CW were completely correct.
There were multiple discrepancies for CW DXCC, which upon close
examination all turned out to be the result of counting pre-1975 QSOs
for CW credit. If these old records were excluded from the
statistics, the CW report would be totally accurate. I have taken
great care in setting the Mixed, Band and Mode credit flags for these
older QSOs in the log file, and none has the Mode

Re: [Dx4win] Comparing Log Files

2008-08-26 Thread Dave Perry N4QS

Bill,

I have also exported the two files in ADIF format and then used Excel to
compare the two. Very ease to open both files in Excel. You can then
resize the windows and reposition them side by side. You can then scroll
down and compare both. I had to do this a couple of times when Lotw dropped
a QSO with a bug they were having. I had over 25,000 Q's to compare, but
found the missing one in just a few minutes. But a file comparison utility
would work fine too.

Subject: [Dx4win] Comparing Log Files

Does anyone have solution for comparing 2 DX4WIN log files to find entries
that are different?

Short version of the story. Somewhere along the line a lot of the state
data

was deleted from many of my U.S. entries. By the time I discovered it was
too late to go back and use one of the back up files as they all had the
same change. Plus I also have added many more entries between when the
incident occurred and when I discovered it.

Up until now I had been manually going through each log entry to correct.
However, last night I found an older log file that is still intact with
all
the correct state data. Now if I can just find some way to compare the
files

and make notes of the differences it would help speed up the process of
fixing the file.

Thanks,
Bill

DX4WIN.CTY Release #48 is now available from:

 http://www.country-files.com/dx4win/

You can read the revision history to see what's new/changed in this
 version:

 http://www.country-files.com/dx4win/history.htm#48

You must update both DX4WIN.CTY and ADIF.PMP because the primary prefix
for Bosnia-Hercegovnia changed from T9 to E7. See the installation

Once again, thanks to everyone for their contributions/help. I am
