Re: [Dx4win] Omitting IOTA info in spots

2022-01-26 Thread n4qs
Alan,

I can think of several reasons that I routinely want to delete IOTA data
from the spot. First, I often do it when I get the red highlighted warning
that the text of the spot is too long. Second, I often want to send a
custom message in the text and need more space. Third, I am often in a
hurry spotting a big run of G's, for example, but I don't see a big reason
to include the IOTA for EU005. Same with most of the other common IOTAs.
But yes, you are right in that I may want to occasionally include the IOTA
for a rare station, but not very often. When I do, I would like to check
the box, but 99% of the time the box should be unchecked.

That why I believe that Kostas and David are correct in wanting the default
setting for Control-A to be IOTA set for off. Makes no sense to have the
default set to on. I wish Paul would change this, or at least let this be a
user choice. But merely setting the default to off would be the simplest
approach.

Dave, N4QS

Just curious why would you want to delete the IOTA info? There are many IOTA
chasers that would appreciate it. This week YE1AR/6 has activated a rare
IOTA, OC-254. Most of his contacts are with Asia or Europe as his choice of
freqs are not making for good propagation timing for NA. So yes, the IOTA
designator catches my eye.

When I go to create a spot for packet, the "IOTA" and "IOTA Island"
fields in the logging window are filled in if the entity is an IOTA. I
usually don't want to include that information in the spot. Is there any
way to shut off reporting that information on packet short of clearing the
field every time before sending the spot?

Thanks. . . Dave, W0FLS

When you press ALT+A to announce a dx spot you can uncheck the iota
field below and these infos will disappear. Unfortunately there is not
an option to have this unchecked by default and you need to do it every
time.

You have right that it is not good to spot something wrong and if you
are not an iota chaser, you will not know the right info.

About QSX problem: I see it sometimes. I don't think it is so usual but
it happens from time to time. I don't know why it happens. Maybe the rig
driver? I use a yaesu ft 1000mp mark v field.

I will say I too am curious how to NOT spot the IOTA info. My reasoning is,
many times I see my spots have a BOGUS QSX second freq in the spoteven

numberLike say I'm working someone on 18.120 Mhz SSB.and they are
working direct and NOT split.my DX spot might (sometimes, not always)
show a second frequency something like 18.137.01 Mhz. It has no rhyme or
reasonit just randomly does that on SOME of my DX spots (thankfully,
many spot correctly). I've learned I have to check for that bogus QSX freq
and delete it before I spotthough sometimes, I mess up and miss it and
spot itmaking others go "uh?".

So.in that regard..since I'm not an IOTA chaser, I
can't help but wondersometimes...if the IOTA info is WRONG also? I
wouldn't know.as I don't chase IOTA and don't check it. But since I see
the WRONG QSX freqs trying to get spotted for some reason, it stands to
reason..the wrong IOTA info might also get spotted sometimes? And thus,
I don't want to spot the IOTA info.

Of course I guess the bigger question is WHYdoes my DX4WIN
sometimes.about a fourth of the time.want to spot some ridiculous
QSX second split freq when I'm not working split (and again, a QSX freq
that is really bizarre and makes no sensenot something like 5 khz up
for voice or 1 khz up for cw.but stuff like oddball freqs like the
18.137.01 in my example above!). But I suppose I should be asking that
question in a separate post of its own.
