[e-gold-list] GoldPouchExpress fund e-gold account fast by Visa for 13%

2001-01-31 Thread Chandra

After a long search for a way to fund my e-gold account with credit card,
and reading of the sufferings of TG and others who tried the same, I wish to
put on record the excellent service I received last week from Gold Pouch
Express, who not only accepted my Malaysian credit card, but put e-gold into
my account within a matter of hours only!

I needed a small amount of e-gold (to test my interface with e-gold server
on my new site which will deliver instant online reports). I could not find
any market maker on the list provided on e-gold's site who could take a
credit card from a new account. Then on golddirectory.com I found Gold Pouch
Express (www.goldpouchexpress.com) and filled in my order. They said they
would call to confirm but I
was skeptical that they would call long-distance to Malaysia. They did - and
accepted the order. Their rate: 13%.
All in, it took about 12 hours for my e-gold account to be funded.

Roger Savoie of Gold Pouch Express said they would have no problems
accepting any international order by Visa card if the details the customer
filled on their online order form matched what is on their credit card file
in the bank, and if they are able to contact the customer by phone to
confirm the order. So here is one market-maker to turn to if you're
encountering problems elsewhere. Gold Pouch Express are willing to accept
your credit card with minimal hassle; they don't insist that you must be in
the US or
done business with them before, nor ask you to fax your credit card and id
to them - and their service is cheaper and faster than those who insist so.

Let's hope their example spurs the competition.

Chandra

Subject: [e-gold-list] Gold-Age: Failure to Deliver (cont'd)

 PECB,
I do not recall writing that you stole my money. I stated that you charged
my card and never delivered your product. That fact, and the fact that you
did not respond directly to my request for information (did you receive
the fax? do you need more information?), led me to wonder if you were
 indeed still in business.
Why would I wait since October for the funds to appear? Simple, I trusted
Gold-Age to do what they said they were going to do. You asked for
information, I sent it and trusted that you would do what you said you
 would do.
It seems the consumer in this "e-commerce" world cannot win in these
circumstances. If I ask for information to soon, you complain that I must
have patience while you fix your servers, or your database or your...
(fill in the excuse de jour). If I wait, and have patience then the answer
is that I should have charged back sooner. I fulfilled my
responsibilities. I sent you all the faxes, emails, voice mails, with the
 correct info,including correct account number.
It is you, Parker, who have not done what you said you would do.
Why did I not charge back? I needed the money in my e-gold account not on
my credit card, and I assumed that you would do what you said you would
 do.
Now you tie up the lose ends by implying that it is I who am responsible
for your failure. I sent you bad info or somehow or other "schmucked"
things up. That is not what the communication trail shows.
It is very simple, I have done everything you have asked for, exactly the
way you have asked and still you have not done what you said you would do.
One of your colleagues said that you are an honorable man, yet I am still
waiting for you to do what you said you were going to do.

GPE does not exept Master Card (Dutch, ABN/AMRO). So, to me, their service is
not so great.

[e-gold-list] Re: TG, et al is Being Attended To

2001-01-31 Thread Tracy Guss

Thank you for your reply. As I wrote at the beginning of all of this, I
can appreciate how difficult it must be to do this kind of business on the
scale that you do. I do not pretend to know the complexities of your
situation. I'm sure that you have many, many satisfied customers. I simply
wanted specific communication, regarding my lost $1,200. I will assume
that you did indeed void my transaction, and that you sent specific
notification to me that my purchase was voided. However the communication
record clearly shows that I never received such notification. The credit
card statement clearly shows that the charge was never reversed, charged
back, or removed in any other way. As I now now where my transaction
stands with your company, I will proceed with my "off line" activities to
find my missing money.

[e-gold-list] Web Based Fraud

2001-01-31 Thread Michael Moore

Article from the international Chamber of Commerce.
http://www.iccwbo.org/

Dramatic rise in web-based fraud reported
London, 21 December 2000 - New figures released by ICC's Commercial Crime
Services show that web-based fraud is rising dramatically, accounting for
two thirds of all the fraud cases CCS investigated for its business members
in 2000.

According to the report, 2,776 of the 4,139 cases referred to CCS by its
members this year for checking or investigation were directly connected to
crime, fraud or deliberate misrepresentation by website traders offering
bogus goods or services.

The survey showed that in 2000, CCS saved its members around $2.3 billion by
warning them away from trading with criminal websites that it had
investigated.

"Cybercrime is traditional crime perpetrated through a new and powerful
medium. The fraudsters have not changed. Only the technology is different."
said Pottengal Mukundan, Director of CCS.

"It is surprising how experienced businessmen discard their normal prudence
when confronted with a profitable proposal offered over a well-presented
website, but it is vital that businesses and consumers apply the same degree
of due diligence in their web-based transactions as they do in traditional
transactions," he said.

The findings coincide with the launch of a due diligence service for
e-commerce. Run by the CCS Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB) with the support of
its Cybercrime Unit, the new service checks the credentials of potential
partners so that businesses know who they are dealing with before they enter
into a contract over the Internet.

"Many companies have been caught out by fraudulent websites, particularly in
banking, insurance and shipping, and there is a lot of distrust out there,"
said CCB Assistant-Director Jon Merrett, who runs the new vetting service.
"This service will help restore confidence between businesses."

Jon Merrett explained how communication with Internet Service Providers
(ISPs) is vital to fighting fraud on the web. "Our analytical software helps
to establish the relationship between the different entities involved and
thus show the various cybercrime trends that are emerging. We have the
technology to research any website, to see how it is set up and by whom. We
can trace its origins back far beyond the ISP to specific individuals and
then investigate them further.

"From our research it is clear that part of the answer lies with the ISPs.
If they can be persuaded to take action promptly when notified of a
fraudulent site on their system then it may help deter the operators of
these bogus sites.

"Along with all other businesses on the web, if ISPs were to exercise some
due diligence before opening an account it would go a long way towards
preventing frauds. CCS has an extensive database developed over the past 20
years which ISPs can use to make their checks."

CCB recently investigated an online bank registered in Grenada that was
offering financial investment products including 'Blocked Funds Letters',
which, according to the US office of Comptroller of Currency, are "not known
to exist in the legitimate banking industry". The bank also claimed to have
links with a number of financial authorities, including the UK Financial
Services Authority, all of which denied any association.

A second case was a site that claimed it could provide the new PlayStation 2
consoles and guarantee delivery before Christmas. The site is registered in
Canada, operated from the United States and directed from Europe.

CCB informed the site's ISP that the offer was highly suspicious, since
production of the new consoles was still strictly limited by the
manufacturers. Additionally, the machines are formatted differently
according to various zones of the world, so to offer them for sale on a
global basis would have been unlikely to satisfy most customer requirements.
The company has now admitted that it is unable to supply ordered consoles,
even those that have been paid for.

"Examples of fictitious websites and virtual banks are not hard to find,"
says Jon Merrett. "Often, it's just a matter of looking for sites offering
outrageous deals, high returns on investments or extremely low interest
rates. Even in cyberspace, if it seems too good, then it probably is!"

Kind regards,

Michael Moore

[e-gold-list] Chess

2001-01-31 Thread Vince Callaway

I have decided to take on the Chess project. This just happens to fall
inline with another project I am handling.

I hosted the US Chess tournament in Seattle live game monitoring a few
months ago, so I already have tools for dealing with PGN data and tracking
games in progress.

The Chess server software I have has a few bugs that I am working out now,
but should be ready for testing by this weekend.

I need a couple of pairs of volunteers to help me with testing. Being
familiar with internet play would be usefull.

Phase one: Get the basic server tied into my registration database.
Goal: This weeend.

Phase two: Setup a basic 'wager' system where two players can bet on a
game.
Goal: Valentines Day.

Phase three: Allow third parties to place bets on games.
Goal: April 1

There is a phase four, but I am not ready to discuss that yet. I will be
hosting another major tournament in about 4 months. I want to have all of
this functioning by then.

If you are interested in helping me test just drop me a note.
