GH, No, Garry is correct... our order form is not correct yet (will it ever be?) I have about 10 minor changes to do 3 major changes. I live in NZ, and my programmer lives in Alabama! But, we will soldier on... Garry gave me USD worth of e-gold, and requested an exchange into DMT/Alta credits, which was delivered into his DMT/Alta account, albeit very late. AFTER the deal was concluded, he wanted a cancellation of the order. So, we reversed the entire process, and we returned USD worth of e-gold in full, less the actual DMT/Alta fees. Our discounted fee was also returned. His initial issue was the late delivery, for which we apologised, and gave a 50% reduction on the GoldNow fee. His secondary issue now is that he is concerned about the loss of approx. $13, between the time he transferred the e-gold to us, and the value of it when returned... the GoldNow policy states (rightly or wrongly) that we deal in the USD standard value of e-gold, AT THE TIME of each transfer. ... and that's the story, in a nutshell. As far as I'm concerned, the issue is over. I made mistakes, and I am now paying for those mistakes by losing a potentially good customer, in Garry. MOST of the rest of my customers/suppliers/friends/supporters think it's simply hilarious... I don't find it amusing at all, but I will get some mileage out of it from the lessons I learnt (all according to the Master Plan). I have considered ALL aspects of this scenario, and I have learnt lessons, and I stand by my decisions. I'll not bring up this subject again, except for my right of reply, if needed. [e-gold-list] Fraudster apprehended!
Guys, A few weeks ago we received a $2500 credit card order for e-gold. The order didn't pass our standard DD process, so we rejected it as fraudulent. I then contacted the school he was at (shown from the IP address), and advised them that a student had stolen a CC local ID, and tried stealing e-gold from us. The president of the university, naturally, was concerned at the reputation of the school, and leapt into immediate action, and advised the University IT Dept, who were able to ID the culprit. The head of student services then called the local police, who checked out my allegations, spoke to the real card holder, then apprehended the crook, (and the school equipment used by him, as evidence) who may be deported back to his home country. In fact, the guy turned out to be a tutor, not a student. Here is the crooks details; He uses [EMAIL PROTECTED] as an email address, and his e-gold account number is 579236. The perpetrators IP was 198.110.220.109 (Lake Superior State University) and the order was placed 10/23/03 03:02 (CST). Cheers! Guys, This person wants me to refund the difference in the cost of the e-gold when he delivered it to us, after he cancelled his order, and we refunded him. He gave us $580 USD worth of e-gold, which was returned in *full*, less the DMT transfer fees, plus an apology for the delay. Apparantly, the value of gold reduced by some $13 odd! (Incidently, we would have refunded his e-gold for EXACTLY the same amount had the ecurrency value increased... he could have made $ on the refund!) Sidd, I wouldn't normally disagree. However, the GoldNow terms of trade specifically advises that we default to the USD value. But, I will consider changing that in future, depending on feedback. Guys, We have discovered a need for cheaper, faster ,international $$$ B2B transfers, and we have trialed this idea... and it seems to be working, and there is a demand. Basically, it's similar to WU, except a lot cheaper, a tad slower(!), but can be delivered online. Example! A person in the UK wants his NZ/AU bank account credited. He/she would credit my UK account, and I would then credit their NZ/AU account, usually same day. The fee will be 1.5%. This would work in ANY of the countries where GoldNow has bank accounts (for a detailed list, see the GoldNow.St default page). As for payments TO USA accounts, we would simply utilize HyperWallet, or our US bank billpay service for mailed payments. (This is due to the stange nature of the US banking animal). Guys, This is a *Warning* about emailed URL links! Today a large number of people received a spoof email, allegedly from GoldNow. The hackers are at work! Please be aware that GoldNow never sends any emails out that require you to click on a link, apart from the generic GoldNow URL (and apart from my gyroplane pictures at Webshots!) If you receive an email that looks like an invitation to complete or cancel an order transaction by clicking on a emailed link, it's simply a crook trying to steal your password, ultimately to steal your money. Be warned. GoldNow has a hands on approach when dealing with customer queries/issues/complaints. We don't email links purporting to fix or resolve issues. Normally, we pick up the phone, or use other secure ways of contacting you. GoldNow has an order driven process, rather than a customer login process, on purpose. This avoids crooks stealing logins and passwords, and we do allow *anyone* to enter orders. That information supplied is then automatically checked for fraud (our system was invented by us, and developed by us), and all orders are manually checked for authenticity, which explains the initial delay for ecurrency delivery. We are not apologizing for that. We have completed well over 30,000 credit card transactions, and been stung by crooks less than 60 times. Having said that, we DO receive, on average, $500,000 fraudulent credit card orders per month. A BIG thank you to the crooks for giving us their information, especially their ecurrency account numbers and IP addresses. Guys, A very quick update on my UFO Gyrocopter project... the NZ inventer/designer, Mac, advises that we now need the Subaru 2.2 litre engine tuned to the LINK computer needed to run/manage the engine, and yesterday we arranged a local car performance guy to install the LINK computer, then dyno-tune the motor to the computer etc etc. The LINK computer is designed and made in Christchurch, NZ, I believe. We have found a local paint to use on the finish of the machine, but it's a tad expensive! I may have to get GoldNow to actually sponsor the aircraft to afford it! All things being equal, and provided I can get some time off work, we should be flying around April-May. All my NZ customers will be invited for a flight (if they trust my flying!) Jim, DMT/Alta is a new ecurrency for us to deal in, and unfortunately, I didn't have my DMT account funded, apart from a few dollars, as a test case. Sidd, I agree with you, but your argument doesn't even allow for non gold backed ecurrencies, which are obviously valid and highly successful operating entities, in their own right. eg EVOcash, NetPay. INTGold gives their customers the choice of either backed or no. It's very interesting to know that *most* INTGold customers have opted for non gold backed, apparantly not happy with the potentiality for fluctuating $$$ value. We spend serious $$$ on sorting out the crooks (3%) from the genuine (97%). Hmmm, I may even yet apply for a PI licence. Again, proof of backing doesn't even begin to guarantee the ethics/morals of the company admin you are dealing with. Heck, a number of the ecurrency providers (that you and I deal with on an everyday basis), are owned by persons I don't know their NAMES, let alone have DD on! Incidently, I have completed 100's of hours of verifying folks, and ecurrency providers. The one provider I can vouch for, as far as backing is concerned, is INTGold. Again, I cannot vouch for INTGold admin ethics/morals/honesty, except to say I haven't had a dishonest transaction with them yet, after hundreds of thousands $$$ transactions. Surprisingly enough, we get very little INTGold from our customers as yet (God only knows what they do with it all!), so we have to buy it from INTGold themselves. Guys, Perhaps this subject should be renamed, Difference between the US banking system... and the rest of the world! Most countries *outside* the US have fairly intelligent, customer orientated, intuitive, reasonably quick, reasonably priced ONLINE banking transfer systems. The US system is simply light years behind, arduous, expensive, slow, self defeating, suspicious, and IMHO, AIDS fraudsters/scammers/terrorists. Real businesses, real customers are penalized. This is also the reason WHY PayPal has done so well (as far as customer numbers are concerned!) Actually, PP is a total pig, in it's present format, which is obvious, to me at least. (It's the BEST system in town, compared to the BAD system in place in the US. The one eyed man in the land of the blind is king.) An updated US banking system would also aid in locating terrorist transfers, actually helping the US against terrorists. I think the US can take a good lesson in banking from the Baltic countries banking systems. Or that absolute pearl of banking systems, NZ. Even Hong Kong is safer, better... Guys, OK, the GoldNow server logs show an interesting story. Apparantly, the hacker has used a little known security hole in the software we use (now fixed), and used that to gain access to our database. (Thank you for the education.) I have determined from an examination of the server logs that pretty much the only thing this hacker did was gain access, change all the staff passwords, send out 2 sets (same wording, some bad language) of fake emails to customers and then log out. However, he did publish the new login and password, so we are now taking massive action to advise potentially affected customers. Fortunately, after we complete an order, we encrypt the credit card details of every customer. The only credit card details showing at any time in our system is the pending orders, and follow up orders. So, we will be advising all folks in those catergories about the potential problem, and obviously rejecting the orders. Debited orders will be paid, and also advised about the potential problem. GoldNow programmers have made serious changes to the system, enabling better security until the *next* hack attempt. Most hackers don't get through the gates, this was very unusual. However, the GoldNow system is now stronger as a result. Thank you for your patience, and most of all, your understanding. This was a serious break in. In spite of my perpetual optimism, I am not treating this lightly. To all of you who sent supporting emails/phone calls, I'll get back to you asap, just a tad busy at present! Wayne, 2000 years ago, Jesus of New Testament fame, indicated that a tax of 20% should be paid to the governing rulers. In contrast, most of the G-8 countries citizens now pay/owe from between 64% to 68%, if you include direct and indirect taxes. Last year, there were 100's of non UK citizens trying to break into the UK. Wot for? The privelege of keeping 25% of their UK potential wages, after taxes? Of course, people would argue that paying taxes keeps them safe, in their particular area/country. However, recently whilst travelling I noticed a whole lot more personal security in low taxed countries, plus a much better standard of living. Interesting correlation, don't you think? [e-gold-list] I just LOVE Tel Aviv!
Guys, I have just spent a fantastic week in Tel Aviv! In spite of terrorist activities, I found IL to be a whole lot *safer* than most major US cities. The people are friendly, and the weather was just great. (80-90 degrees EVERY day). The food was wonderful (I'm not sure why I didn't put on weight!). The Israeli folks seem to have a very positive outlook, it was a pleasure to spend time with them. I also met a bunch of GoldNow customers, a terrific bunch of ecurrency rebels!! If you want a great holiday, come to Tel Aviv. You'll avoid the usual tourist throng, as most normal tourists are too scared to go... leaving room for you. Most hotels are offering amazingly good deals. I recommend the Metropolitan Hotel, downtown Tel Aviv, next to the beach. Incidently, the Tel Aviv beach rivals the Gold Coast in Australia, or Hawaii. Thank you Jim, for your very honest opinion of the ecurrency market, as you see it. As far as INTGold are concerned, I'm very confident that INTGold is backed by gold. INTGold management have faxed me proof of gold bullion purchases. As well, we deal with 1000's of happy INTGold customers, and we rarely (if ever) receive any INTGold complaints. Having said that, GoldNow cannot verify the management style of INTGold, or their moral/ethical basis, but I'm sure that they are at least gold backed. Guys, GoldNow dealing with OSGold was a business error. We simply made a mistake, and as a result, we personally lost about $70,000. However, we learnt our lessons well, and we have asked INTGold for proof of backing, which *was* provided. We continuously monitor *all* of the ecurrencies that we deal with, and to a lessor extent, most of the legitimate market makers. GoldNow business is brisk, and GoldNow fraud management is better than average! Existing staff are quiet, efficient, honest and loyal (99% of GoldNow staff are women). Statistically, 80% of previous GoldNow customers are now re-ordering all types of ecurrencies, including INTGold, of course. This includes customers who originally demanded OSGold purchases, as well as OSGold redemptions. So, it appears that the vast majority of GoldNow customers are *also* loyal! [e-gold-list] Gyro free flight, update!
Guys, My UFO is *almost* ready to be delivered to me (I've already paid for the rolling kit, the internals, and the motor reduction gearbox.) I will still need to get it built (250~300 man/woman hours), and then buy and install gauges, rotors, and prop. Recently, we went to Auckland for the thrust trials of Jeff's machine, and were amazed at the thrust trial results. It may be that the machine is waay over powered (2.5 Subaru motor. My one is 2.2). Also, Jeffs machine is running too cold, (maximum revs, on the GROUND!) so we have to figure ways to get it running hotter, otherwise it's not a good scenario. Jeff's machine is now 100% complete, and awaiting NZ CAA sign off. We plan to coerce him to let us go for a few forays into the South Island mountains (over them!) I have arranged Russell Ward, a US certified aircraft engineer (who owns his own certified CAA airfield in Mercer, 100 kms south of Auckland) to help me complete the machine. His vested interest is to get Mac, the UFO designer, to position his fleet at his airfield. Russell is currently back in the US for 3 months, finishing building a wrecked Beech Bonanza; he'll fly it back to NZ early Novemeber, then he starts on the UFO Gyro. Which suits me, as I plan to be back from IL, CY, MT UK around mid October. Russell is also getting his gyro instructors rating whilst in Ca. I reckon we should have it finished around March-May 2004. I'll fly it around NZ for a while, then export us and it to Portugal, where I plan to live for the rest of that year. The following year I may spend in US/Canada, but I'll suss it out first. I have a bunch of new pics, but haven't uploaded them to the WebShots.com site yet. Arik, That's not my experience, at all. GoldNow has processed multiple thousands of credit card transactions, with the chargeback attempt level less than 100. The actual chargeback level for GoldNow is less than 50. That includes the rash of eBay and other auction type frauds. Mind you, we also get 300-800 stolen ID/CC orders per month, which we obviously reject as fraudulent. Incidently, 90% of all staff wages at GoldNow is spent filtering out these idiot crooks/thieves, and 90% of all delays is due to the same issue. We are now buying/researching exquisite Israeli technology that will semi-automatically filter out the loser drongos, with a 99.9% accuracy, which will increase efficiency, and ultimately, reduce the CC charge rates, and increase bottomline profits for the GoldNow shareholders. Guys, We call 100's of customers 100's of banks every week, verifying customers, and for personal reasons; we use DialPad.com , as VoIP is now cheaper and well advanced, compared to years ago when Dialpad first started. (What a *dog* it was then!) I recommend a quality USB headset (Plantronics is good! Also http://www.communitech.com/web/dialpad/usbheadsets.asp), and a relatively fast PC. I travel permanently, and DialPad enables me to call customers and banks from whatever country I'm currently in, for a fraction of that countries IDD rates. I'll be in Israel in a matter of a few weeks or so (procurring you all debit cards, and opening an Israeli office), and I expect DialPad to work just fine! There are other cheaper, and free services, but I like the DialPad quality. They don't accept e-gold yet, but let's work on them!
