[ECOLOG-L] Numbered pins?

2013-04-24 Thread Alden Griffith
Does anybody know where to get long numbered pins for marking small plants and
seedlings? Numbered map pins are similar to what I'm looking for, but they
all tend to be too short and/or have too large a head. Something like an
insect pin with a small numbered head would be perfect.

I'm looking for something like the pins at this site:
http://www.mapcenter.com/?c=web3.15, but with smaller heads and longer shafts.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Alden Griffith

breakfast and lunch included!), and the topic this year is:
Technological Solutions to Climate Change.

This is a wonderful opportunity to hear and participate in discussion on
how science and technology are communicated to the public and to policy
makers, and issues surrounding this. How do we ensure effective
communication of science technology between academics, the media,
policymakers, and the public? Who is responsible for ensuring the
accurate transmission of science to the public?

https://sites.google.com/site/wellesleycommsci/home/about *

* Keynote Speaker: Mathew Nisbet * - An expert in the area of framing
science for policy-making and the public.

[ECOLOG-L] Nutrient Analysis - Lachat reviews?

2011-04-08 Thread Alden Griffith
I'm curious if anybody could comment on the performance, usability, and
reliability of the Lachat 8500 FIA (or point me in the right
direction). I would be primarily be interested in using it for nutrient
analysis of water and soils, as well as foliar nitrogen.

Is this a system that undergraduates would be able to operate with
enough training? (how much training?) Are there alternative machines?

Cheers,
Alden Griffith

[ECOLOG-L] Astoria-Pacific Analyzers?

2011-10-06 Thread Alden Griffith
Has anybody used nutrient analyzers from Astoria-Pacific for
environmental/ecological analysis? In particular I'm interested in using
the Astoria-2 for examining soil/water nutrients (NO3, NH4, P, K) and foliar
N. I would be particularly interested if anybody has any direct experience
comparing this type of system to the Lachat 8500.

Thanks!
Alden Griffith

[ECOLOG-L] *Abstract Deadline Extended to Feb 8* BES Symposium - Demography Beyond the Population

2015-02-04 Thread Alden Griffith
The abstract deadline has been extended to Feb 8 for the BES Symposium
Demography Beyond the Population to be held in Sheffield, UK March 24-26,
2015.
Preceding workshops will be offered on March 23.

*Abstracts Due* - Extended to February 8
*Early Registration Closes* - February 15

*Space is limited* so we strongly advise registering as soon as possible.

The symposium and preceding workshops aim to highlight the emerging role of
demographic tools as bridges across ecological, spatial, and temporal scales.
Specific themes include evolutionary demography, environmental and
physiological drivers of population dynamics, communities and coexistence,
species ranges and
spread, conservation and global change, and methodological advances.

This is a fantastic opportunity to engage with leading researchers in a
relatively small and focused setting. The symposium will be held at historic
Cutlers'
Hall in Sheffield with daily lunch and catering included.
