[ECOLOG-L] Numbered pins?
Does anybody know where to get long numbered pins for marking small plants and seedlings? Numbered map pins are similar to what I'm looking for, but they all tend to be too short and/or have too large a head. Something like an insect pin with a small numbered head would be perfect. I'm looking for something like the pins at this site: http://www.mapcenter.com/?c=web3.15, but with smaller heads and longer shafts. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Alden Griffith Environmental Studies Program Wellesley College agrif...@wellesley.edu
[ECOLOG-L] Wellesley Communicating Science Symposium - April 9 - FREE
The second annual Communicating Science Symposium at Wellesley College will be held on Saturday, April 9. The symposium is free (with breakfast and lunch included!), and the topic this year is: Technological Solutions to Climate Change. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear and participate in discussion on how science and technology are communicated to the public and to policy makers, and issues surrounding this. How do we ensure effective communication of science technology between academics, the media, policymakers, and the public? Who is responsible for ensuring the accurate transmission of science to the public? * Register for free online at: https://sites.google.com/site/wellesleycommsci/home/about * * Keynote Speaker: Mathew Nisbet * - An expert in the area of framing science for policy-making and the public. http://scienceblogs.com/framing-science Other speakers include: Vernon Asper, Wendy Hessler, Kate Plourd, Marcelo Marcena, Greg Watson, Tim Heidel, Dr. Michael Golay, and Vladimir Bulovic. [ECOLOG-L] Nutrient Analysis - Lachat reviews?
I'm curious if anybody could comment on the performance, usability, and reliability of the Lachat 8500 FIA (or point me in the right direction). I would be primarily be interested in using it for nutrient analysis of water and soils, as well as foliar nitrogen. Is this a system that undergraduates would be able to operate with enough training? (how much training?) Are there alternative machines? Cheers, Alden Griffith
[ECOLOG-L] Astoria-Pacific Analyzers?
Has anybody used nutrient analyzers from Astoria-Pacific for environmental/ecological analysis? In particular I'm interested in using the Astoria-2 for examining soil/water nutrients (NO3, NH4, P, K) and foliar N. I would be particularly interested if anybody has any direct experience comparing this type of system to the Lachat 8500. Thanks! Alden Griffith
