[Elecraft] K3 TXCO for JT65?
I'm guessing the other recommendations were for running JT65HF, because if you intend to do JT65B on 2m-eme, I strongly urge you to get the TCXO3-1. The standard TCXO is only 5ppm (+/- 140-Hz on 10m). For best operation on 2m-eme one should stay within 20-Hz bw (+/- 10-Hz). The TCXO3-1 provides 0.5ppm and barely makes that standard. For best performance the K3EXREF is best as it keeps you at 0.1ppm: +/- 2-Hz at 28-MHz. 73, Ed - KL7UW __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] Anyone try interfacing the KX3 or K3 with the Ten-Tec 418 amp?
I looked I'm passing too many $$ per watt for one and I will wait the short amount of time left for the Elecraft amp to be released very soon. As with all of their the integration factor means a lot to me I have several amps as other do. I have a KPA500 for one of my K3's the other has an Alpha if, when Elecraft decides to build a 2500+w continuous duty cycle legal limit amp I will have all Elecraft amps till then. Plus another troubling thing that I have been hearing are some customer service issues and that concerns me with any company not just a radio company. Quality is remembered long after the price has been forgotten, junk reminds you quickly of what you have done. The base price of a K3/100 is quite cheap for what you get and holds the value Very Well for a long time if you will check. [Elecraft] P3 Utility enhancement
I'm using V1.13.2.3 on my Mac. It would be very handy to be able to type a changes into the Local folder box and have the utility create it. The box allows editing, but changes back to what was there before. Currently it's populated with Macintosh HD:Users:Miker:Library:Application Support:Elecraft:P3 Firmware:MCU_1.25:. I'd like to be able to change that to Macintosh HD:Users:Miker:Library:Application Support:Elecraft:P3 Firmware:MCU_1.26: and have the new folder created. I think I recall the Win vers of the K3 util does that. 73, Mike NF4L __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Elecraft] K2 Assembly problems/Info 080 Message
Tom, RF Board U1 should not get hot. Make sure it is oriented correctly. The notch goes toward the left side panel. If you plugged it in backwards, cross your fingers that it is still OK. Error 080 is an indication that the main microprocessor cannot communicate with other microprocessors in the system over the single line AUXBUS signal. In the bare K2 there are 2 microprocessors - Control Board U6 is the main one and RF board U1 is the other. For the LO BATT message, make certain you have the jumper on the 3 pin header at the top of the Control Board plugged for INT (to the left as you look down on it). As for the garbled display, first get rid of the INFO 080 messages, and then tackle that one. Peer under the LCD display to see if pin 1 of Front Panel U1 was soldered. If it was not, cut away a bit of the lower part on socket corner to expose the pin and solder it from the top. With all those problems, I am wondering about the quality of your soldering. Compare your solder connections with the diagrams in the soldering tutorial that you can download from the Elecraft website. You need enough heat on both the component leads and the solder pads to make the solder flow out to an almost invisible edge. Any solder fillet should be concave. If it is convex, either too much solder was applied or the solder did not flow adequately into the thru-plated hole. 73, Don W3FPR On 3/2/2013 1:15 AM, Tom Fuller wrote: Hello, I am assembling my Elecraft K2 Radio (serial # 7421) , I made it up to page 43 of the manual, earlier today I was able to get the info 201 to show on display as on page 43 and frequencies showed ok/bands changed on display ok also but with info 080 message shown , the tuning dial did not seem to be working too well...In order to troubleshoot it, I began to re-solder all the connections but now the frequencies don't display anymore-just some garbled numbers show and also I am still getting an error 080 message/low battery message and I noticed the part U1 on the RF board is hot to touch. [Elecraft] P3 + P3SVGA Manual Suggestion
Finished building my P3 this morning and have a manual suggestion for the assemble section. It would be nice to have a note at the top of Page 41 (similar to how the K3 manual is) that refers you out to install the P3SVGA option prior to continuing down the page. I had looked through the manual but when assembling this morning I missed getting the P3SVGA on before continuing down Page 41. It would saved some re-work in removing the ribbon cable and card. [Elecraft] Buying a KRX3 - Filter selection help needed!
Hi everyone, I need advice on picking filters for a KRX3. I currently have the following filters in my K3: 2.7 kHz 5 pole 1.8 kHz 8 pole 400 Hz 8 pole Should I put the same filters in the KRX3? At this time, I don't have the capability to take advantage of diversity receive. It's been a while since I researched filters, but if I recall, it is only the 5-pole that has an offset that needs to be matched, correct? Is it overkill to add the other two 8-pole filters if I'm just using the KRX3 to chase DX working split? Thanks! Re: [Elecraft] Buying a KRX3 - Filter selection help needed!
Jeff, Working split, you will be listening to the 'pack' with the subRX, Since your interest does not include diversity, I would suggest that you install the width filter for CW that will provide the most benefit in separating the 'pack' so you can tell who the DX is working. On that basis, you might want to put the 250 Hz in the sub, You could also move the 1.8 to the sub for narrow SSB capability. However, if you think you will ever use diversity, match the filters in the main. Given the wide width of the 2.7 filter, you can cheat (rather than matching the offset) by telling the K3 that the filter offset is the average of the two offsets. You could not do that with narrow filters, but it works OK at wider widths. 73, Don W3FPR On 3/2/2013 2:34 PM, Jeff Hall wrote: Hi everyone, I need advice on picking filters for a KRX3. The KRX3 comes with a 2.7 KHz filter ... you can get by by splitting the difference in the offset between the 2.7 in your K3 and the new 2.7 in the KRX3. Since you are used to the 400 Hz for CW and possibly RTTY, I'd put one in the KRX2 but you can probably get by without the second 1.8 KHz filter - particularly since you do not intend to do any diversity receive. 73, ... Re: [Elecraft] 100 W into K3
There are various PIN diodes that can be damaged. Here's what support suggested (in the past) to begin troubleshooting: If the rig has a KXV3 option installed, PIN diode D5 will be damaged by high levels of RF coming into the receiver (more than about 2w). This would affect both the main and sub when the antenna is shared. Remove the KXV3 and jumper across J66 pins 8-10, and 13-15 and see if the sensitivity returns. If so, D5 needs replaced or the entire KXV3 if you are not able to replace the tiny SMD D5. If only the main is affected, it would be D25 on the RF board near the little stop band filter board. It could also be the larger PIN diodes on the RF board or the KPA3 if a lot of power or a big lightning strike caused the damaged. See if the signals get strong with the Power knob below 12w so the KPA3 PIN diodes are not in the signal path. 73/GL! ~iain / N6ML On Sat, Mar 2, 2013 at 6:45 AM, fabio.gris...@libero.it fabio.gris...@libero.it wrote: Hello! Re: [Elecraft] K3 on order
I have had my K3 for about a year now. There have been some teething pains and I have been vocal about it. However, that said - my K3 is, without a doubt, the best rig I have owned in well over 50 years of operating. The ability to customize the rig to be your own makes it very desirable - so many settings to tinker with. The break-in keying is to die for. Hands down - the best I have ever used. The DSP seems to be able to handle most any challenge. I added the P3 and really enjoy it - shows what is going on up and down the band. I have various filters, the SWL board, and the tuner. I spend most of my time on 75 and 40 rag chewing and netting - QRM is NEVER an issue with the K3. I use HRD (old free version) for much of the rig control and am building a small desktop VFO control for easier feet on the desk tuning. The K3 will probably be my last rig - nice to finish with the very best. [Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Announcement
Good Evening, I have been out moving wood uphill and have found it is truly not the heat but the humidity. For the last month the dewpoint and the temperature have been either the same or quite close. This means the fog gets dense and the humidity approaches 100%. Even at 40 degrees moving wood uphill creates heat which does not dissipate well in the moist air. Any dry wood I have under cover equilibrates to a new moisture level. It is best to bring the wood in days before it is burned. Propagation has been up and down all week. One day a great S5 signal. The next day there is no one to be heard. The sun has been active but I cannot account for the differences in propagation from day to day. We are getting more sun each day, here in the Northern Hemisphere, but one would think that variation would be a steady, seasonal change instead of on again off again signals. Please join us tomorrow afternoon and evening. 1) Hail signs (first letter or two of the suffix of your call) 2) NCS help (as well as QSP/QNP relay help) Sunday 2300z (Sunday 3 PM PST) 14050 kHz Monday 0200z (Sunday 6 PM PST) 7045 kHz Stay warm, Kevin. Re: [Elecraft] OT - Titanic II 2016 ...and CW?
Actually, it was spark that played a role, and we probably won't hear that from the Titanic II, since it hasn't been legal on the air since 1938. CW was still at least a decade off, though the date seems to be elusive. Spark was still the mode used in 1920 for ships at sea, as chronicled in the novel The Nymph and the Lamp, by Thomas Raddall, a good read. And, yes, it would be nice if Morse Code could be heard from the Titanic II, in any mode. 73, Rick Dettinger K7MW On Mar 2, 2013, at 4:28 PM, stan levandowski wrote: I heard about Titanic II on CNN this evening. Re: [Elecraft] OT - Titanic II 2016 ...and CW?
My own research done for a recent club presentation suggested that Spark was dead around 1920 for commercial purposes as a result of Lee DeForest's vacuum tube which ushered in the age of CW. I also found several references to spark having been outlawed for use on the ham bands in 1923-1924. By the late 1920s the only spark transmitters still in operation were legacy units on naval vessels. What I wasn't able to determine is if the term naval meant Navy or Merchant or both. In any case, my point is the Titanic sent CQD and later SOS using Morse Code. 73, Stan WB2LQF On Sat, Mar 2, 2013 at 8:09 PM, Rick Dettinger wrote: Actually, it was spark that played a role, and we probably won't hear that from the Titanic II, since it hasn't been legal on the air since 1938.
