[Elecraft] K3/K3s component level repair parts and components
Are the discrete components available for the boards and does Elecraft have (and will they share it) a ranked list of most failed to least failed they can provide to us? I'm just thinking that over time we, as hams, may need to do some of the repairs ourselves and it might be a good idea for us to have some small stock of components (even if we send the unit in for repair, we can help stock parts so Elecraft doesn't have to keep inventory). Just a question/idea. Thanks in advance. .. [Elecraft] For Sale - AF1 Audio Filter Kit - Built
Elecraft AF1 Audio Filter Kit - Built - no case. As I recall, I built it and put it in a plastic bag in the parts closet, so it was tested but not used for any length of time. I believe I have the cables that came with it - buyer gets what I have with it. I will also include the instruction manual, if I can find it. $40 including shipping FOB to US or Canadian destination only. (I am too old and feeble ( i.e., lazy) to figure out customs duties and all that foreign shipment jazz.) Sold as is, no warranty. If interested, please contact me off list = mycallsign99 at gmail.com Thanks. While this article is for the K4, the exact same should be done for the K3 to stop accidental keying during boot up of the OS. I suggest that you do this for ALL of your USB ports and while you're there, also defeat (turn off, uncheck) power savings mode (once turned off, it won't restart until the next reboot, negating it's value to less than zero), again on ALL of your USB devices (hubs, ports etc). 73, Rick nk7i Use Windows Device Manager (run devmgmt.msc) to change the Advanced properties of both of the K4 FTDI virtual serial ports: Uncheck Serial Enumeration Check Disable Modem Control At Startup Details and rationale here, with screenshots: https://bit.ly/FTDItip On 12/5/2022 10:53 AM, Dave New, N8SBE wrote: Ed, Likely the 'clicking' you are hearing is the PC initializing the USB ports on boot up. It's harmless, but annoying, although if I recall correctly, on CW it actually ends up sending a carrier. There was a firmware update for the K3/K3S that makes it ignore those computer PTT by leaving the VOX turned off on CW until you transmit something (not from the computer). This happens if you power cycle the K3 before turning on the computer. Of course, you could just turn off the K3 and leave it off until the computer finishes booting. I don't have an explanation as to why moving the USB cable to the front ports seemingly has stopped the issue. Perhaps you just didn't happen to trigger the issue (see above)? Ed, Likely the 'clicking' you are hearing is the PC initializing the USB ports on boot up. If you watch closely, you will see the K3 PTT/XMIT come on a few times during the computer boot up. [Elecraft] Connecting software to K3/K3S
I've used microHAM microKEYERs (first the MKII and now the MKIII) with my K3 (and now K3S). I previously used a DB9 A/B switch to switch the radio between the microKEYER and a computer COM port when I wanted to use the Elecraft K3 Utility. I reconfigured recently and eliminated the A/B switch because I hadn't used the K3 Utility in a long time. The recent thread about N2BC's K3_EZ program got me thinking about trying that program or the K3 Utility using the 2nd CAT port in the microHAM Router software that runs the MKIII. I just tried the K3 Utility, and it works fine. I don't know why that never dawned on me before, but it's nice to not have the cables and switch cluttering up my desk. I have VA2FSQ's Win4K3Suite connected to the microHAM Router's 1st CAT port.
