[Elecraft] K3 Receive gone
A few months ago K4 #1200 came to live in my shack and K3 #4083 got a vacation on the shelf. It was working fine up until then, in regular use. When I pulled it down in preparation for Field Day it no longer had any receive on any band. Full output on every band except 10 meters where it only did 70 watts. Plugging my XG2 into any port on the ATU even on the 50 uV setting shows no S meter deflection and no tone in receiver (a small amount of quieting on 20). Can anyone give me any hints to try before I contact the mothership? -- Jim K0XU j...@rhodesend.net __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Report
Kevin, You were good on 20 meters with some deep QSB but OK copy. Then we got whacked by the sun pretty hard between nets and the story changed on 40 meters. I could hear you at first but your signal was below the noise peaks so your CW was getting chopped up and nearly uncopyable. Hoping for better next week! 73, Brian, K0DTJ > On Jul 2, 2023, at 17:26, kevin wrote: > > Good Evening, > >Twenty meters was fairly quiet but minimally productive. [Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Report
Good Evening, Twenty meters was fairly quiet but minimally productive. There was little thunder storm noise on either band. That should give me a hint. On forty meters Dwight, WM5F mentioned a solar storm. When I signed off I came in here to check. Sure enough that roaring sound drove his normally S9 signal close to the noise. We are also experiencing D layer absorption. Good test of propagation :) https://solarham.net/ gave me a map. Re: [Elecraft] K4 Rx is awesome...
He never said what kind of antenna he was using. A lossy antenna is much worse on transmit than it is on receive. You can easily tolerate 20 dB or more loss on receive (for pretty much ANY rig) ... but not on transmit, especially in a contest like FD where there is tons of QRM on the other end. The K4 is a very fine rig, but not because of anything he claimed. 73, Dave AB7E On 7/2/2023 11:03 AM, George Thornton wrote: That was not my experience. To me, this means that the K4 Rx is bomb-proof, sensitive, selective, and just, well, awesome. If the other stations had better receivers, they might be able to hear me calling them. They are obviously bogged down with on-site overload/spurii/phase noise etc. What a pity. I gave up replying hopelessly to CQFD’s from other 100W stations and went and did some woodworking instead. There is a SCREAMING Pin One Problem at the connector for the paddle and/or the key. From what I can discern from Elecraft's response, it is the result of the availability of the connectors, and circuitry to detect the presence of a connector being inserted. It may also be present at other rear panel connectors. I experienced it here the first time I fired up on 10M, with the TX antenna on a 120 ft tower 100 ft from the shack. I wound ferrite chokes onto those cables and to others at the rear panel. 73, Jim K9YC __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

Re: [Elecraft] K2/10
Hi Allan, In your original post you said your K2 seemed somewhat 'deaf.' Does that mean you hear no signals at all on any band, no signals on one or two bands, or just weak audio with antenna or signal generator input? Since your K2 has the K160RX option, I would check that the RX antenna is not inadvertently selected in the menu, especially if there is nothing connected to that antenna port. In your most recent post you indicated that the sudden deafness occurred after the transceiver was working fine. When you wrote that 'the power cut out and left the K2 in this state' after starting to recalibrate the ATU, can you clarify what you mean by that statement? Is there any TX power output or just not what the Power control indicates? I would recommend ceasing effort to realign the radio from scratch until the cause(s) of the abrupt loss of some functionality is (are) identified. The issue with the VFO realignment is a separate matter unless the VFO has ceased to oscillate at all. 73, Mike, K8CN __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

Hi from Bavaria, I don't own a K4. But my experience let me bet "RF got into a cable". I wonder what power you are using. Have you hooked the K4 to a computer? If so, it could be a problem with the port or software. Good Luck Chris, DL2MDU Am 02.07.2023 um 10:38 schrieb Jeff Drew via Elecraft: The K4 does one of two things: * gets stuck in transmit mode.
