Hi Dave,
More information would be helpful. Are you seeing your radio's output thru
the KPA500 (and on the meters) with the amp in bypass mode? Is the radio's
PTT properly keying the amp? Etc.

Re: [Elecraft] KPA500 Issue

2022-03-31 Thread Jim Clymer
In my case, it was not the PIN diodes themselves, but failure of R9. I'm
away from my shack right now, so may not have the resistor ID correct. It
is a 48 Ohm resistor. I fixed the problem by parallel connecting a pair of
1/4 W, 100 Ohm resistors across the open one. Problem solved. Been fine
since.
There is documentation of this problem. A German ham wrote to me with a
link to the solution. If no one steps forward before tomorrow, I'll try to
post the info in the morning.

Re: [Elecraft] KPA500 TR switch mod kit

2021-06-21 Thread Jim Clymer
You might be referring to this from an Elecraft repair invoice:

"Replaced Q5, D7, R3, R9 and R24 for Transmit/Receive MOD (Improves
robustness in Transmit/Receive circuitry)."

My KPA500 was back to the factory in March and had this mod installed. That
didn't help much in the "robust" department, because my amp went south
almost immediately after its return. Apparently the PIN diodes D8, D9
and/or R7 have failed. I received many replies to my question on this forum
from others who had the exact same issue. The symptom is recieve signal is
attenuated about 20 dB when Operate is engaged; normal in Standby.

Re: [Elecraft] Digest questions / new K4 list or group

The digest is a real pain for the very reason you mentioned... many
subscribers, for whatever reason, don't remove all the non-pertinent stuff.
I have seen one post that was 3 digests deep!
To avoid that, you have 2 choices. Either change your delivery to
individual emails, or unsubscribe and go to the site at your leisure.
