Re: [Elecraft] K4: panadapter directional coupler required?

2019-06-03 Thread Marty Koszewski
Hi Brian,
I understand that the panadapter is built in to the K4.

The directional coupler added additional functionality to the P3. It gave real
power output and SWR, as well as an output waveform. All functions I use
today. I was wondering if that functionality is avail in K4 since there is no
input from the feedline if using an amp or external tuner.

Thanks.

[Elecraft] K3S - N1MM+ CW Message Transmit Decode Question

Thanks Rich. I appreciate the detailed response. Makes sense to me now.

First off, when you use the CAT command the radio is not decoding
transmitted CW at all, it is simply echoing the ASCII text you sent to it
in the command.

Second, the only transmitted CW the K3/K3S can decode is keying from the
paddle input to the radio's internal CW keyer. Keying input from a straight
key, a computer or an external keyer, whether it comes into the radio on
the DTR line of the radio control port or via the CW Key jack, does not get
decoded.

[Elecraft] K3S - N1MM+ CW Message Transmit Decode Question

2017-08-18 Thread Marty Koszewski
I have my K3S set up in N1MM+ as suggested on pages 187 & 188 of the Fred Cady
manual (38400,N,8,1,CW,Always Off). The radio is set to RS232 = USB and
PTT-KEY = OFF-dtr.

CW Transmit Message Decode Behavior: (.mf file)
When the function key (eg. f4) is set to '{MYCALL}', the radio transits as
expected, but does NOT decode the CW mycall transmission.
When the function key is set to ‘{CATA1ASC KY *;}’, the radio transmits and
DECODES the CW mycall transmission.
I get similar results for all of the function keys. Transmit decodes with CAT
command, does not the standard command.

Any idea why the K3S decodes the CW message transmission using the CAT command,
but not the MYCALL command? I have verified that the radio is transmitting in
both cases. I have tried various decode threshold values as well.

Thanks.

[Elecraft] K3S - no output power from 14.180 - 14.220

2017-05-27 Thread Marty Koszewski
I just received my K3s back from service (IMD updated TX boards). There is no
output power on 20M from 14.180-14.220. All other bands and the rest of the
20M band appears to be ok (regardless of mode selected).

Is there a setting that I missed? What would cause this odd behavior. I hope
I don’t have to send it back for another 6 weeks to get additional service.

Thanks.

Re: [Elecraft] K-Pod MCU 1.09 'F3 Power Up' Question

2016-11-23 Thread Marty Koszewski
Hi Fred,
I re-installed the K-Pod and K3S firmware. The K-Pod is now working as it is
supposed to. I must have had a ‘glitch’ in the original K-Pod firmware
upgrade. The ‘F3’ at power up does the correct ‘divide by 4’. The K-Pod now
resets itself when I cycle the power on the radio without the need to
disconnect the K-Pod. (My K-Pod is powered through the data port - I did the
resistor upgrade to eliminate the need for a power cable).

Thanks again for your help.

Hi Fred,
Thank you for your detailed response. I am able to get my K-Pod to behave as
you described. However, the 'F3 power up' seems to work intermittently. I
must cycle the radio and K-Pod to get the tuning rate change to take place.
Re-powering the K-Pod only does not seem to consistently change the tuning
rate.
I am looking forward to the firmware upgrade that will allow the K-Pod to have
the same tuning rate as the K3S (instead of 1:2 or 1:4).

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hello Marty,

I don't remember seeing any response to your question so here is what I have
found with my KPod:

The K3's tuning rate is determined by VFO CTS, FST and CRS and there are two
fine rates (1 Hz and 10 Hz) and a course rate (100 Hz) depending on the
FINE/COARSE switch.

So when my CTS is 200, the K3 tunes 200 Hz, 2 kHz and 10 kHz per revolution.

The normal power-on KPod tunes 100 Hz, 1 kHz, and 5 kHz per revolution. (it
divides by 2).

Holding F3 when power-on the KPod tunes 50 Hz, 500 Hz and 2.5 kHz per
revolution (divide by 4).

Cheers,

Subject: [Elecraft] K-Pod MCU 1.09 'F3 Power Up' Question

I installed the latest K-Pod firmware - MCU 1.09. The release notes state
"Adds a power-on feature: if the F3 button is held during power up the K-Pod
encoder uses a divide by 4 scaling factor."I do not notice any difference
when powering up holding the F3 button.

What is the 'F3' power-up supposed to do? I thought it might address the 4X
VFO knob speed difference between the K3 and the K-Pod (my K3s VFO is still 4X
faster than the K-Pod).

Thanks.

Re: [Elecraft] RFI on K3s

2016-06-20 Thread Marty Koszewski
I had the same issue. It was caused by my Powerwerx SS-30DV. After trying a
number of things to mitigate the noise, I ended up replacing the power supply
with a Samlex SEC 1235M. Noise gone. Problem solved.

I am seeing a repetitive RFI source every 34kHz from somewhere less than
20MHz thru 30MHz plus...

See attached image. The amplitude alternates high/low every other
appearance. The overall amplitude is higher or lower depending on the
location within the spectrum Almost a sine wave function with a
VERY long period.

Anyone want to hazard a guess as to what is causing it? I disco'd every
switch-mode power supply in the shack and adjacent rooms (couldn't do
the whole house as the XYL was home) EXCEPT my Powerwerx SS-30DV PS
running the K3s/P3.

Don't have a battery to run the radio on right now...

Re: [Elecraft] SS30DV feedback

2015-10-02 Thread Marty Koszewski
I have similar spur issues, approx 30khz apart, with the SS30DV on 40 & 80
meters as well. I do not get any noise from my Samlex 1235M using the same
power cabling and same installation location. I will try the suggested toroid
solution to see if I can get rid of the spurs. I do prefer the connectors of
the SS30DV.
