[Elecraft] FOR SALE

2018-02-08 Thread Michael Goins
I've been off the air for about three years working on our business and
other projects and have the following for sale as virtually unused:

Elecraft KX3 with just about every option available already installed.
Included is the KX3 with KXAT3 Automatic Antenna Tuner, KXFL3 Dual Passband
Roofing Filter, KX3-2M-AT 2M All-Mode module with SMA-RA, KXBC3 Internal
charger with Real-Time Clock, KX3-Pckt Accessory Cable set, Fred Cady book,
Nifty Manual and all of the original documentation. Also have a Nifty
stand. No mike. Excellent. Serial #4816. $1400 shipped.

PX3. Purchased from the original owner who never set it up so essentially
new. Very little use here. Includes Nifty stand. Excellent. Serial #0975. $450
shipped.

KXPA 100 - Essentially new. Used 4-5 times here as I've been off the air
for approximately three years. Has the ATU. KXCBL cable package. Excellent.
Serial #1261. $900 shipped.

Please respond directly if interested. Thanks. Mike, k5wmg

Re: [Elecraft] Signing "/QRP"

2017-07-26 Thread Michael Goins
I operated qrp exclusively for 25 years or so chasing DX and I also never
liked hearing the qrp tag on the end. To me, it was a way of trying to get
special treatment - sort of like cheating to me - and I never did it. The
thrill was in the chase and either finding someone down in the mud others
might be passing over and working them qrp or getting through pileups with
skill and not mega-power.

That said, it was fun when I worked a friend's station and got through the
pileup on the first or second call - at least for a while. Now I'm 1 watt
to 500 and I'm finally in a good place location-wise. Unfortunately, the
bands aren't so good, so I operate as conditions require.

If I was really bent out of shape I would log them and then email them

Calling them a lid would not fit that bill.

Re: [Elecraft] USPS, UPS, FedEx and related woes

2017-04-27 Thread Michael Goins
Rural here too and the biggest issue for a long time was that the UPS guy
would just throw boxes over the fence even though he could easily drive in.
Not too hard on the books I order, but tough on radio stuff and other
electronics. Fedex always knocks on the door.

Took a few calls but there's a new route driver for UPS and all seems okay
now, though the UPS stuff does occasionally go to the PO to deliver and
with the satellite mailbox setup here, that means a trip into town if the
box is too big to fit in the small satellite box container.

Re: [Elecraft] KX3/KX2 Suggestions

2017-03-30 Thread Michael Goins
Wayne,

How about a possible break-out type box to incorporate switches so we can
plug the kX3 in more neatly, since many of us use it as the main rig? That
way we could switch modes, etc. by flipping switches instead of
unpluggin/plugging cables. If used in the field too, just unplug and go.

Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft's HexKey

2013-07-22 Thread Michael Goins
I have one I'd consider selling - the Long Island Mercury. Would consider
offers if anyone is interested. Thanks.

Re: [Elecraft] K3EXREF query

2013-07-21 Thread Michael Goins
I've used a little bit of coax seal too many times to count. Stick a bit in
the screwdriver tip and it will hold the screw very well.Used t recently
re-building a T-8 Tennadyne Log Periodic with lots of difficult to access
areas. Didn't drop a one (and they would have gone into the boom and been
totally inaccessible).

Why would shipping be $80 on a K2? I just shipped a Jupiter across
country for $32.

Re: [Elecraft] KX3: How much space inside?

2011-05-24 Thread Michael Goins
While I am seriously looking at the KX3 to become the main station
here, and I completely agree about the bird guys, they certainly aren't
the majority of us who operate at low power.

I've used both the 817 and the 703, and in 37 years as a qrper, I've
never had any interest in vhf. To say that the 703 was "a flop"
because it was hf only is a pretty bold statement and I think there
are several thousand qrpers who would disagree with you there -
including those posting on a number of lists that are still looking
for a radio that has been discontinued.
