Eric:I am a big believer in UPS's that will run on an external battery.  Or I 
modifythe old UPS's to run on a battery.  Stoplots of spikes and other nasty 
things on power lines.  My K line run all on UPS'sand with external batteries.  

AN ALWAYS DISCONNECT ANTENNAS.  I use polyphasers too but I had several of them 
burn out caused by lighting an surewouldn't have wanted to have had anything 
hooked up to them when the blew.

[Elecraft] Noise from P3

[W0WFH Bill via Elecraft]

Hello all:
I operate a lot of 6 meters an want to use the P3 band scope for weak signal 
operating.  However when I turn the P3/SVGA on my noise floor jump up 3 or 4 db 
above what it is with the P3 turned off.  Turning on and off the Monitor makes 
no differance.

I know of a couple other guys in South West Missouri that has the same problem 
on 6 meters.  


Oh just  for informaton the P3 works well on all of the other band 160 to 10 
and 2 meters.  I am running a K3 with all the options except the second 
receiver.  It is a great working radio too.

[Elecraft] Remote operation of a K3

[W0WFH Bill]

Hi all;

I would like to remote my K3 station via the internet.  With out spend lots of 
money.

I know there are several programs available that clam remote operation but they 

don't tell you what else you got to buy.  


Back in the 90's I used a program called PC anywhere to access my office 
computer
from any where it worked fairly well.  An I see it still available is anyone 
using it to
access your host computer in your shack?  


I am open to suggestion from anyone who has a K3 up and running,  


One more thing I am disabled an right now I can get out to my shack via a 
wheelchair,  But
I done know when I will be confined to my bed most of the time,  An before that
happens I would like to get the K3 station remoted.

[Elecraft] Add K144XV TO MY K3

Hello;  I have a problem with my K3 now after adding the K144XV.  When I power 
up the K3 I get E 020202  ERR DSE .

I know the Err DSE is a dsp failer.  So I reloaded the firmware and
it still has the same problem.

So guys what did I do wrong.  Not much to screw up on the installation of the 
K144XV.  Ok yes my K144XV has the reference oscillator Phase Lock Option.

I am open to suggestions.  Don't post to the Elecraft Forum send me

[Elecraft] Ref: A WOW moment.

Hi all,  


WOW moments don't come along to often these days in
operating.  


Now that I have a New K3 with a P3/svga  I am having more
fun operating that I have had in years.  


I guess the biggest WOW moment in the  past few months was while calling the 
Maritime Mobile Service Net a few weeks ago.  I was looking for general check 
ins to the net when I had this KH6 answer me.  It turned out to be a station 
from the Big Island calling to check in from off the side of my beam.  It is 
times like this when the K3 really shines.  With it super Receiving ability.  
Not many other stations on the net heard the KH6 station and he was almost 20 
over S9 here in central Missouri.

We all have moment during our day to day operating that you will
remember for years.  An those are the time that make being a
Ham Radio Operator such a wonderful thing.

[Elecraft] Proper installation of PL 259's

Having been a Motorola field tech. and shop manager for over 35 years.  I have 
installed
thousands of PL 250's.  Motorola back in the mid 1980's start suggesting 
installers use
crimp on connectors because of too many redoes on mobile installations.  Most 
of the
service problems on new installations was bad solder connections of PL 259s.  


So Motorola developed a nice crimp on PL 259 an a special crimping tool to go 
with
the connectors.  Being an old school tech.  I had some reservations as too how 
they would
hold up in ruff service installations.  Well they held up very well an are 
still being used today.

So, if you want good crimp on PL259s go to your local Motorola Service Shop an 
buy some
connector.

As far as water proof... no connector not PL 259 crimp or solder are water 
proof without
doing a good tape job or using some of the spray on rubber sealant.  


Water proofing connector is an art in it own.  3M make some shrink tape that 
works good, but now a lot of people are using this spray on rubber sealant as 
advertise on TV.  So far
it looks to be holding up good an can be removed easy once it setup, it also 
remain flex able,  

If you think water proofing a PL 259 is hard at average ham heights of 30 to 80 
feet try waterproofing a N connector on the end of 7/8  helix at 300 ft plus 
feet in the air.

[Elecraft] K3 with P3 on the air

Greeting all,  My K3/100 I picked up from KP4Y 
Is just about all complete, I added the KDVR3 and KATU3 
plus the FM filter.  I also have the XV144 transverter off
my K2 on the K3 and it works super!

An as of today I now have the P3 installed (waiting on the 
SVGA board).

It all working the K3 is S/n 6061 and the P3 is 2817.

Now I will be looking for a KPA 500 amplifier and my K Line
will be complete.  

From what I seen so far this is going to be a great station.
Been using an FT 920 for 15 years worked a lot of 6 meter DX
but now with this set up should be able to finish off DXCC 
only need 5 more countries confirmed.

[Elecraft] control cable from K3 acc to XV144 control

I know this should be simple but having lots of problem finding
the pin out from the K3 ACC to the XV144 control.  Yes I have a KXV3a in my
K3.  I just need to know how to wire up the DB9 on the XV144 to the DB15 on the

[Elecraft] Local oscillator off on my xv144

[W0WFH Bill]

I need to set the local oscillator frequency on my
XV144. When used with the K2, I just changed the frequency
display in the K2's menu.  But now I want to use the
transverter with another radio on 28Mhz an the 144Mhz
is 1.5 Khz high in frequency.  Now on the XV50 there is
a variable capacitor to set the frequency but on the XV144
I find nothing am I overlooking something?  Please contact

[Elecraft] Weak signal DXing on 2 meters

I have been chasing weak signals on 6 and 2 meters for years always looking for 
a better
receiver.  Will I think I have found it
K2/100 with XV144  XV50 transverter.
I have been listening to WD9BGA/Beacon in en53ba in WI. all day both yesterday 
and today.  That about 330 miles.  I have never
been able to copy this beacon unless the 
band up. Like early morning...etc.  
I don't want to start up this again but I use a Tokyo Hy Power solid state amp. 
350 watts
it work great with the elecraft transverter.

I am new to the Elecraft K2, I also have the same
problem except mine is reading up in frwquency
when I am tuned into 3.963.00 net my dial reading
is 3.963.21.  I double check net frequency with
my ft 920 and they are dead on 3.963.00.  
 
I need help where to begin looking!

When I listen to a station transmitting using CW on, say, 7030 (zero-beat), my 
displayed frequency is 7029.93.
When I transmit, the reverse beacon stations show me as being right on 7030 
while my displayed frequency is 7029.93.
When I listen to SSB, station usually do sound perfectly clear at a displayed 
frequency 70Hz below their advertised frequency (nets).

Should I change my displayed frequency? To what? Am I off?
If I move the BFO frequency a bit, would I need to realign my filters?

[Elecraft] K2/100 noe fully loaded

Hello all:
 
I know this is old news to most of you, but
I just completed my K2 last night.  By completed
My K 2 has all the options an last night I added
the KAT 100 tuner and that made a big difference
in operating with the radio at 100 watts. 
 
I run Logic 8 logging program an it works great
with the K2, running the spotting log, it monitors
what been spotted an if I need it for an award it
tells me an all I got to do is click on that station
an it moves the rig to that frequency and mode an
all I got to do is call him.  Cool.  Just wished
I had the band scope.  
 
Now I got to find a six and two meter transverters 
an I will be a happy VHFer.

project I would like it to be the KPA500 amplifier.  
 
Has anyone used them together??  If so
how it work out?  
 
I will get a K3 one day but now I can only

[Elecraft] K 2's still a sweet radio

Hello  all who love Elecraft Radio's
 
I am a newbie to the Elecraft line of radio's
but have been hearing a lot about them for 
several  years.  Now I own a loaded K2 some
I built and some I bought already built.  I
have been a big Yaesu fan for 30 plus years
but when I found out that they are no longer
going to support my 1999 FT 920.  
 
Now my K2 is only a year old but they have been
on the market sense 1999 too and they are still
being support  sold by Elecraft.  
 
I am now in the process of selling off all my older
radio's and hoping to have a nice K3 line setting 
in front of me by next year.  
 
I know this is long but just had to tell everyone
how much I like the Elecraft products.  Keep up
good job.
