Yes, I've had the same problem, after I tune , I get low power out indicated

Gordan,
e72x,

I updated the firmware to 3.04 last night. Today, after I tune, I get no or low
power out indicated on the RF meter in SSB. Keying down momentarily restores
power in SSB.

Are others experiencing this?

Re: [Elecraft] [K3] K3 3.04 Power Output After Tune

2009-03-30 Thread ab2tc

Hi,

I also have this problem that SSB power is low following the use of TUNE. I
don't have the built in tuner. I use the tune (hold) function to generate 10W
CW for my external remote auto-tuner. In the contest I got into the habit of
doing a power cycle after tuning (I now see that there are better ways which
helps. I have also observed the slow creeping up of power over several
transmissions until it eventually recovers fully. I don't have any precision
instrumentation to measure peak power. I just observe the average power on my
analog SWR meter and I estimate I start out at 2/3 of what is should be after
using tune. I join others in hoping for a quick resolution to this.

There are two menu entrys that effect power in addition to the front
panel PWR control. There may be interaction between these in certain
combinations of settings or BAND and MODE.

Wayne has limited internet access this weekend and has asked me to
request information from those who are experiencing this problem.
Please send your settings for the following.

[Elecraft] [K3] K3 3.04 Power Output After Tune

2009-03-29 Thread Paul Kirley
During the WPX SSB contest I have noticed the same low output that others have
noticed after ATU TUNE. I just wanted to add one comment.

After low output is remedied with TUNE, the firmware seems to remember that
fact. That is, when I return to that vicinity after SP QSOs elsewhere (ATU
flashes), the output seems OK. TUNE doesn't seem necessary unless ATU TUNE has
just been used to reduce SWR.

[Elecraft] [K3] K3 3.04 Power Output After Tune

2009-03-29 Thread Randy Downs
Here ya go Wayne.

Config TUN PWR nor

Config PWR SET per band

Band and Mode all bands phone usb and lsb

and front panel PWR control. 120w

I can't seem to change to cw mode and have it correct the low power out after
tune. I have cw wght set to ssb+cw btw. I actually turn the power control cw
(up) even though it is maxed on the lcd, and after several turns all is ok
until the next tune. I tried different setting on tun pwr and pwr set with no
change. I have cleared tuner mem settings with no help. This k3 seems to have
lower output than my other k3. s/n 2737 vs s/n1194. It's about 20w less on
phone. I've seen this since k3fw3r03 btw. k3fw2r82 and before has normal power
out after a tune, although still quite a bit lower than the s/n 1194. 100w on
s/n1194 shows 100w on my peak reading meter. 2737 around 70w depending on band.
I'm sticking with 2r82 for now.

S/N 1749 with 3.04. There is definitely something strange with the power
output. I turned off the radio last night, powered up this morning, retuned
(used tune) the amp for 20 mtrs and was seeing 600w out. After several contest
contacts I noticed the atu was still in line and switched it out. Next SSB
transmission showed power was about 90 watts from the amplifier. Turned K3
power up from 20 watts drive to 30 and amplifier output was about 300 watts.
Amp is ACOM 1000.

Sorry guys, you are correct. There is a problem with the ATU function on
SSB in ver 3.04. After tuning with the ATU in circuit, the power is much
lower on SSB until the TUNE button outputs a full carrier. The ATU isn't
normally used here these days as my antennas are resonant.

I see a power cutback after KAT3 tune also - not as dramatic as Gus
describes.Not using SPLIT.

Using the 2TONE test signal on SSB yields ~100W, tune the KAT3 and 2TONE
test again yields ~65W. Change to CW, tap the key, back to SSB and I
get ~100W. All this into a dummy load on any band.

Other observations:
If you tune the KAT3 then bypass the KAT3 it still only outputs ~65W. I
also tried various settings of TUN PWR (10, 2, NOR), all acted the same.

Works OK on FW2.82, 'fails' on FW3.03 and FW3.04

I can turn up the power control and it will increase to where it should be,
even though the power control is allready set to 120w. After a turn or two
the power goes back to approx. 100w. I can tap tune again and it will drop
to approx 30 w peak on ssb. Talk and turn the power adjust up, even though
it says 120w brings the power back up. It's then OK until I tap tune again!

Yes, I've had the same problem, especially when operating split on 40
 meters.

I also experienced the low power issue.
It has improved significantly since I cleared the ATU memory using the clear
function. Too soon to know if that actually cured the problem.

I'm having a problem of low power output on SSB on 40 meters. Call for 100
watts, get 50 or less peak on LP-100 watt meter.

Reinstalled FW 3.04, calibrated K3 watt meter, calibrated TX GAIN using the
K3 utility and an OHR 100 watt dummy load. Problem remains.

CW output is OK on all bands, albeit a bit on the low side (around 90 out
when 100 requested).

I've switched back to fw2r80. It seems for me to be the most stable on tx
ssb.
fw3r04 is very squirrelly on ssb.
