I can't imagine how many days or weeks of time and cost of shipping, labor, and
parts the same damage on a Kenwood 480 would be.

and hooked up during an electrical storm...ZAP-POW-SPLAT...Batman!
There was no crash, no flash of lightning, just a silent power surge
that took out the EEprom, the Voltage regulator and a diode in the
ATU. Total cost of repairs was $7.49 (including postage). Finding the
problem took about 4 hours of bad language.

[Elecraft] Do you really need a K3?

2006-08-28 Thread We5f
I'm sure I speak for many, and I would be very interested in a K3 if it has a
general coverage receiver.

That's the main reason I can't seriously consider a K2 to meet my needs. I
do a LOT of listening - far more than operating. So a compact mobile
transceiver MUST have a general coverage receiver to be of interest to me.

As far as price goes, you need to consider that the Kenwood TS-480SAT has all
the features the K2 has, PLUS general coverage receive, PLUS 6M. It also
comes standards with the remoteable control head. And it's available right now
for less than 1 kilobuck.

But perhaps my needs are few. I just need a decent CW rig on 17/15/12/10/6 for
the upcoming sunspot cycle 24.

No hurry here for a K-3.

My new K-2 just now on the air.

I agree, because it is like a vehicle to get people to think about what
they
wish they had or what they think is missing, which is valuable information
for

any company.

What I find most interesting, as someone who is hoping to plunk down for a
K2
next year is that overall everyone I meet here seems more than satisfied
with
the K2's performance and features. The wish lists are really just that, a
list
of wish to haves, as opposed to a shopping list which would be more a list
of
must haves. I am sure a new K2 will be a good purchase for me to grow
with for

quite a while.
