[Elecraft] Happy Holidays

2016-12-24 Thread tomb18
Hi All,I would just like to drop a note to all the people on the reflector to
wish you a Happy Holiday and all the best for the coming years.Over the past
few years I've had the opportunity to talk to many of you, meeting colleagues
across the world and making many friends in the process. The last three years
have been a blast and look forward to many more.73 Tom va2fsq.com

[Elecraft] Happy Holidays

2015-12-20 Thread Howard Hoyt
Just a quick note to thank Eric for running this list for yet another
year, and to both Eric and Wayne for the fine manner in which they run
Elecraft, both in terms of product design and customer service. As a
member of the Elecraft eco-system on several levels I am thankful for
the excellent products and great customers who realize what true
performance is! I would like to return a small portion of the favor and
extend free shipping to all list members at Pro Audio Engineering until
December 31.

Happy Holidays all!

And there are some out there, such as various followers of the eastern
orthodox faith, who follow the old calendar, which means Christmas isn't
until January 6th.

A similar, but moving, difference occurs at Easter as well. That's because
their observance of Easter is , if I understand it correctly, predicated on
when jewish Passover occurs. I think they have a point, since The Last
Supper was a celebration of Passover.

This is even more complicated than it looks! Both Easter and Passover are based on a
lunar calendar. Easter Sunday is the Sunday following a particular full moon
http://users.sa.chariot.net.au/~gmarts/easter.htm, and Passover is the 15th of
Nisan on the Jewish calendar. Jewish months start with the new moon, so the 15th is a
full moon.

The Jewish calendar is interesting because it reconciles lunar and solar periods.
Despite the synchronization of the months with lunar cycles, the Jewish holidays
always come out in the same season. This is accomplished with months that have leap
days and even a 'leap month' that is added 7 times in every 19 years.

The Islamic calendar is purely lunar. So holidays move by about 11 days each year
with respect to the solar year.

More than you wanted to know.

[Elecraft] happy holidays to Wayne and Eric and tnx for the K3

2008-12-24 Thread O. Johns

Dear guys, and all the cast of supporting actors,

Happy Holidays to all of you! May you get 20 or 30 minutes of well-
deserved rest! Hi, hi.

Just finished assembling K3 #1741. What a great kit! The fit and
finish are extraordinary. Tolerances are close, but it is a great
pleasure to find that the last screw goes in as cleanly and easily as
the first one did.

Also want to praise you guys on the ergonomics. It is a pleasure to
use this radio. Lots of thought in that design. It is designed by
knob-twiddlers for knob-twiddlers. What a joy! So much to adjust,
and all of it actually seems to make a difference. I'm about 3/4 of
the way up the learning curve. Just played with NB and NR and now on
to adjusting the fine points of AGC.

And, lo and behold, the NR and NB actually do something. I am in the
center of a city with about S8 RFI/QRM most evenings. I find that NB
and NR actually let me copy things that I can only hear dimly on my
K2. (Which is itself no slouch, BTW.)

So, happy holidays to all from a happy camper.
