Yip cool chassis.

He would only be stuck for something to drive it with when finished (without
an ICOM badge on it anyway ;-) )

Apologies to all for the OT humour

2007-10-20 Thread peter gerba
Hi Bob;

That's correct, the 3CX1500A7 and D7 are completely different tubes. My
remarks were from experience with the 3CX1500A7, the 8877. I don't know
anything about the D7. If the tube is a 3CX, then it's a Triode (unless the
coding has changed).

If you're interested, you might have a look on the Eimac WEB Site. I think
it's kept current.

CPI and Eimac/Varian have business offices in Palo Alto, CA.

Richardson is not the only vendor for the 8877. I don't know about the D7.

Eimac is a division of CPII (Communications and Power Industries,
Inc.). Richardson Electronics is one of the primary distributors of new
Eimac products. These tubes can last a lifetime in Amateur service if
treated with respect. I don't know about this particular tube, but
there is a considerable market in used power tetrodes on the web. You
can sometimes get a kW level power tetrode with half its service life
left for a couple of hundred $.

Hi;

40-50 ma of grid current should get you about 1500 W out. Don't over drive
the tube and it will last for years and years.

Eimac tests the 8877 key down at 30 MHz , 3kw for hours before it's sold.

It's a very good tube.

[Elecraft] Just Wonderin'...

2007-10-20 Thread Andy - GM0NWI
Guy's...

Santa came REAL early this year.. today I took delivery of the ARRL Handbook
2008 and the new version of the
Low Power Communications book by Rich Arnald.. It's gonna be a good one..!

Flickin' through the new Handbook I came across the article again for the
3CX1500D7 RF Linear Amplifer... the
Very same one that was featured on the front cover of last years handbook
with the write up inside also..

It got me thinkin...

Exactly HOW MUCH, would the tube or tubes for one of these beauties cost in
todays money..?? Also the base for the
Tube, HOW MUCH would that be..??

WHERE would one purchase such things.. (don't see any reference in the
article to places that may stock these)..

Indeed if the parts are expensive at todays prices ... is there an "older"
alternative that one could use in such
A "homebrew" project..??

Enquiring Minds Are REALLY INTERESTED in learnin..'
