[Elecraft] K3 EZ link

2022-12-05 Thread Bob McGraw

If you are looking for K3 EZ application it can be found at this link as
a zipped file.  Thanks to Jim, N7US for the upload.

https://groups.io/g/Elecraft-K3/files/K3_EZ

There are 3 versions and I understand the latest one has bugs. The
author is a SK.

I have #2 running on my Windows 10 Pro machine.  I did have to install
Microsoft Framework 2.0.

*I don't recommend the old fashioned steam units which simply have two
electrodes immersed in water such that the steam is created from the
electric current between them. Obviously, pure laboratory H2O won't work,
but a pinch of salt in the water makes the house lights dim (HI), neither of
which is a desirable situation. I don't like the ultrasonic units either
because for some reason, they caused a lot of dust to be deposited on our
flat screen TV. My opinion is that the best types are the ones that use a
wick element and fan to put moisture in the air.

To prevent static discharge problems with my computers, I have a bare ground
wire attached to the side of my desk. I touch it when I first sit down. In
the winter, it does draw a spark. Most computers are not well designed or
protected.

That said, I had no idea the K3 was susceptible to ESD - via the K-Pod.

I am running a KX3-PX3 set; on the PX3 set for the spectrum in top,

What's up with that?

5/9/2012, the author just neglected to change the number.

If you are using Norton, then things like that are to be expected.
Norton uses a "useless" algorithm - if it has not had experience with
the files, it flags them as possibly having malware.

Hello Jim,

My bet is that someone on the web site where you made the download, wants to
sell you anti-malware which is probably malware in itself. It's the "tactic
of the day". My advice, stay away from the "free" stuff on the internet. It
is not like the young lady says in the commercial "They can't lie on the

Time for me to throw in a pitch for the Win4K3 Suite. Best 50 buck
investment you can make. I started with K3 EZ (free is good) but soon moved
to Win4K3 and never looked back. The suite is constantly evolving. No annual
update fee. Works with both K3 & KX3. You can put it on unlimited number of
computers and Tom is always there for tech support. Buy yourself a Christmas

I have no connection with Tom or Win4K3-just a really happy customer.

Re: [Elecraft] K3 EZ utility

2015-12-11 Thread Jim McDonald
Here's another location with all three:

https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B-V-5Vmska0HcHlpQ01jM01zRjQ&usp=shar
ing

The latest one has some improvements, but has a bug, which I don't remember.
The automatic SWR curve generation is very cool, and I like the ease of
testing different RX and TX EQ settings which can be saved. I have 2005 and
2008 installed. The file naming is interesting, as the K3 was introduced at
Visalia in 2007, I think.

The developer, W2BC, was in declining health, and I see the call has been
reassigned, so I assume he's a SK. I corresponded with him several times,
and he was cordial and helpful.

You can save screenshots of each screen after you scan the radio for each
one.

I use a microKEYER II with my K3 but have an A/B switch to bypass the MKII
and connect the K3 directly to a serial port (actually a Gearmo USB adapter)
when using this program or the K3 Utility program.

 Hi John

The K3 EZ provides user friendly access to many of the features in K3
(and I
believe in K3s) from a Windows computer.

Band stacking, memories, equalizers, info about settings, general
configuration, RX configuration, TX configuration, AGC setup, a
command
utility, scanning of a band measuring SWR every 10 kHz (as I
remember) plus
setup for the K3 EZ itself.

All very handy. It depends on your needs which of the functions you
will be
 using.

Re: [Elecraft] K3 EZ

2013-03-06 Thread NZ0T
A request - I use a 10" netbook at my station and K3 EZ in it's current
form is too large for the small display so I can't use it. The bottom of
the page is cut off. I have tried re-sizing my display with no luck so if
you are going to produce an improved version IMHO it would be great if it
would be compatible with small displays.

2013-03-06 Thread hawley, charles j jr
I use that a bit, it's not friendly with MS 8 or something. I have to use Task
Mgr to exit...but it is promising for setting up the K3. I have to repeatedly
load the EQ to get all the EQ bands set on the K3...stuff like that.

I just loaded the K3 EZ program which appears to be a 2008 version, the last
version (?). I understand the author is an SK.

Anyone have any plans to bring this back or create something similar.?

This could really be a simple way to set up a K3 with radio buttons and
different fields to either fill in or with check-offs for fixed values

...just a thought from a newbie K3 user.

Please go to Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Turn Windows features

I had a few ask me for the file, however many client servers dont accept
7mb emailed files.

Ok so an adobe sendnow link will come through shortly here to those whom
wish to pick it up etc.

Adobe auto virus scans any file upload to sendnow, so feel safe.

For K3_EZ_V2005.zip go to:

2012-08-04 Thread Jim N7US
Bill, N2BC, sent me an email in June saying he was "facing some serious
near-term health issues" and wasn't able to maintain the program. He said
he'd be offering the source code for someone else to maintain it, but I
don't remember seeing that email.

I can send you a ZIP file of the latest version, and maybe it can be made
available on Elecraft's website.

Let's hope Bill is doing OK.

His direct email address is n...@stny.rr.com .

I too have seen this exception error with the latest version of K3- EZ.
And I too chose to ignore it but it came up repeatedly in the program.
The clincher for me however was that there are no re-size or scroll bars
available in any screen in the software, which on a small screened netbook
are mandatory.

I used it with an Intel Atom powered Acer Aspire One netbook with a 1.8GHz
Dual Core processor and 2GB of RAM.

The software is no longer installed as it it useless without being able to
see all of the settings etc.

[Elecraft] K3-EZ, new 4.50 firmware and first impressions

2012-05-07 Thread Lu Romero
In testing the new firmware, I discovered that K3-EZ version
2.0.0.5 will not allow AGC THR to be set above 8 and advised
that this is not possible in nice red text :)

N2BC will have to modify this in a later release when this
new rev goes into the wild.

Of course, no problem in changing it on the radio front
panel.

First impressions are quite good. Only tried it on SSB but
there is much more separation of signal levels than before
with no changes in the settings I had in the rig. The
higher the AGC THR, the more "open" the receiver sounds.

Have not needed the noise blanker yet.

I also hear much tighter dynamics control... less "suck out"
on loud signals and the AGC decay ramps up a bit quicker
than before. This may or may not be "real" but preceived
effect of less AGC action. The audio is much more "open"
than before from a dynamics standpoint.

Much more pronouced difference in loud vs soft signals now,
with the same settings that I had before, just the change in
the firmware.

Nice start, gents. Will try on CW later tonight.

Well they could use Lazarus http://www.lazarus.freepascal.org/ a free open
source development tool based on Free Pascal that looks a lot like Borland
Delphi. It produces Windows binary executables that don't require .NET.
There are also versions for Linux and Mac OS that can create executables for
those platforms from the same source code. It's what I use to create KComm.

Re: [Elecraft] K3 EZ and .NET

One other thing about .NET is that Microsoft provide free graphical
development tools, and even the professional Microsoft development tools
are primarily for .NET. That means that anyone who is doing small scale
Windows development, and isn't heavily into the use of open source tool
chains, is more or less forced into using .NET, especially if the
program has a GUI.

.NET itself does not auto-update. It is included in Windows Update, so
is potentially updated every second Tuesday of the month, but, in my
experience, is only rarely updated; IE accounts for a much higher volume
of updates.

You can set updating to manual and select only the desired updates. The
only real problem with that is that you have to be very careful where
you go on the internet, to avoid getting infected by malware that
exploits the bugs fixed by the updates.

It is relatively slow, but part of that is the result of the general
software bloat which strives to cancel out Moore's law. I should be
faster than purely interpreted versions of Visual Basic, as it uses just
in time compiling to produce optimised code when it is run.

There are non-Windows implementations of Common Language Runtime, the
underlying technology, although these do tend to be rather slow, as they
only do a shallow translation to machine code

None of this should indicate that I wouldn't prefer open source C code.

It is very unlikely that code re-written for .NET will get rewritten, by
its original authors, for any older technology.

[Elecraft] K3 EZ and .NET

2009-09-21 Thread rfenabled
Ok, the reason for me not wanting the .NET software is as follows:
1. The program will run "off line for a limited time" and then want to go to
Microsoft for updating.
2. It is not a particularly fast program and has caused a few issues in the
past. Some folks have suggested that it is easier for software developers to
use .NET to write programs etc.

In my case, I run my K3 from my motorhome in remote areas that have no access
to the internet for me and therefore I do not want web dependant programs on my
computer.

I can appreciate that my requirements are unique and would suit very few K3
owners and therefore I was only asking IF there was a version of EZ K3 which
could be used without the Microsoft .NET software.

I did not expect that I would be that lucky..:-)

Hope this clarifies my question somewhat.

[Elecraft] K3-EZ and Windows 7

2009-08-22 Thread E Glenn Wolf Jr
Has anybody had any luck getting K3-EZ to work under Windows 7? I've
tried several compatibility modes and as administrator and it still
won't install.

On another note the K3-Util installed and seems to be working fine.

TIA -

I was looking on the Elecraft software site, and saw the K3 EZ utiltiy which
helps with creating/maintaining the K3 configuration.

The K3 EZ info page says that there is a system requirement--.NET FRAMEWORK
2.0 must be installed.

The Microsoft download page for .NET FRAMEWORK 2.0 does not list Vista as a
supported operating system.

Has anyone found a way to use K3 EZ with Vista?

Thanks,

[Elecraft] K3-EZ for Mac OS

2009-02-06 Thread Robert Klein
Looks very useful, but what about a version for the Mac OS? If a version of
K3-EZ for the Mac OS is not in the cards, is there anything out there that
is similarly robust with the K3?

.. yes, only problem for some people might be that .net Framework 2.0 does
not support Windows Vista 64 bit according to Windows web page.

[Elecraft] K3-EZ Software

2009-02-06 Thread Lee Buller

While exploring the Elecraft site, I discovered K3-EZ Software by Bill
Coleman.  See it at:

http://home.roadrunner.com/~n2bc/SW.htm

Now, I have no vested interest in the program, but I found it to be quite
useful and highly recommend it.  I spend some time adjusting the RX equalizer
and found that it is quite effective to my hearing loss.  It is quite amazing
how you can bring up the highs and cut out the lows.  I have yet to deal with
the TX equalizer.  The program seems to give me all the information about the
K3 I need and allows me to make changes without digging through the menus.
Also, it will allow you to load the memories.  Other programs are good too, but
it seems that Bill's program goes into the depth of the rig more than others.

One thing I would recommend to the user is to use a high baud rate than 4800.
The program goes out and changes settings and at 4800 baud it can be quite slow.

Let me also say, I have about three or four programs on my computer which talks
with the K3 and they are all good...Bill's seems to go (as I said) into the
"soul" of the K3

Lee - K0WA

In our day and age it seems that Common Sense is in short supply. If you don't
have any Common Sense - get some Common Sense and use it. If you can't find
any Common Sense, ask for help from somebody who has some Common Sense. Is
Common Sense divine?__
