Re: [Elecraft] KAT500, KPA500, KAT3 - tests done
Probably. But customer service goes a long way in my book. Good thing Elecraft has great performing products and awesome customer service. May I have another glass please?? Re: [Elecraft] KAT500, KPA500, KAT3 - tests done
Although I don't have a KPA500 (still dreaming as I have to buy diapers), I feel for those experiencing the problem. With that said, it just goes to show Elecraft's dedication to it's customers to try and solve whatever might be causing the issue. I don't know of any other product line, regardless of the market, ham, computer, guns, cars, mountain bikes, etc, where the company not only listens to and interacts with the customer, but takes the issues seriously and tries to solve them. It's good to know that Elecraft doesn't just see us as serial numbers and profit. Well done Wayne, Eric, and the Elecraft staff. It's for this reason alone, regardless of performance, that as the financial picture dictates, I will switch all my HF gear out to Elecraft. For now, I'll enjoy my KX3 as much as I can in and out of the shack. For those of you who look at my QRZ.com page, you'll notice I'm a huge baseball fan. My goal this year, is to operate portable from my seat at the ballpark with the KX3. I wouldn't be able to combine my two favorite hobbies if wasn't for Elecraft. 73, Steve KS6PD On Friday, January 10, 2014, AG0N-3055 wrote: > On Fri, 10 Jan 2014 10:33:35 -0700, Gary McDuffie > > > > wrote: > > On Fri, 10 Jan 2014 07:09:42 -0500, Bill W2BLC wrote: > > > I have talked to a couple of local hams with K-Lines about the problem. > > They have experienced the same KAT500 retuning problem, but wrote it off > > as the tuner being overly sensitive to "stray RF." Hi Bill, We're making major improvements, all in firmware, as you noted. Our staff members who have full K-Lines at home are doing extensive testing to make sure all cases are covered, after which we'll send out updates to field testers. 73, Wayne N6KR __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Bill, Thanks for sharing this. Anyway, stray rf or no stray rf, it must be solved. We'll see what the engineers of Elecraft come up with. 73 Arie PA3A Bill W2BLC schreef op 10-1-2014 13:09: Just for grins, I connected my faithful properly designed mil-spec 50 Ohm dummy load to antenna output connector #3 on the KAT500. I then transmitted a signal on 3900, allowing the tuner to do its thing (per proper instructions). Then I proceeded to talk to myself for a couple of minutes on the dummy load - mimicking a QSO. Sure enough - the tuner did its usual hunt and seek retune after about 40 seconds. This is the same it does when actually on the air with a real antenna connected. [Elecraft] KAT500, KPA500, KAT3 - tests done
Just for grins, I connected my faithful properly designed mil-spec 50 Ohm dummy load to antenna output connector #3 on the KAT500. This tells me that "stray RF" is NOT the cause of the problem. From emails received, I understand Elecraft is working on the problem. I have talked to a couple of local hams with K-Lines about the problem. They have experienced the same KAT500 retuning problem, but wrote it off as the tuner being overly sensitive to "stray RF." This make me curious as to how widespread this problem actually is and how many users just accept the problem? I did the same test with the KAT3 (internal to the K3). No problems noted - the tuner performs flawlessly - whether into a dummy load or actually on the air.
