[Elecraft] N1MM and K3
Hi all, I have been able to recover my stuck K3 at MCU LD with an old Serial to USB cable.I want to use it with my N1MM but find the transmmiting is not clean and sure it is due to the quality of that cable. Which one would you recommend to buy so my TXing will be clear and clean.? I know Elecraft has one, could someone send me the link so I can order the right one.? Thnak you guys. 73, JosepEA6BFMyWebsiteBUG #256 - CWOps #3072 - FOC #2182 (ex 1724) __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

Chyeck to make sure that you have enabled only one PTT method. This is a known problem when more than one is selected. I use Winkey PTT, and never have to worry about it. 73, Pete N4ZR The World Contest Station Database, updated daily at www.conteststations.com The Reverse Beacon Network at http://reversebeacon.net, blog at reversebeacon.blogspot.com, spots at telnet.reversebeacon.net, port 7000 AND now at arcluster.reversebeacon.net port 7000 On 11/7/2011 12:07 PM, gdaug...@stanford.edu wrote: John wrote... Re: [Elecraft] N1MM and K3 always on transmit problem
Yes. You have PTT or KEY(CW) configured wrong. maybe try to start N1MM without the K3 on. Find these settings and verify the configuration. Also check your cabling. Two ways to fix this (pick one). * In N1MM Logger, Config -Configure Ports - Hardware , click the Set button next to the K3's COM port and change DTR and RTS to Always Off. * On the K3, set CONFIG:ptt-key to off-off Alternatively, you can actually use the RTS and DTR lines on the COM port for PTT and CW keying, if you want, by configuring them to match. ~Iain / N6ML __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] N1MM RTTY K3
Perhaps someone can please help. I previously set up N1MM to work RTTY via N1MM digital interface using LSB mode on my K3 - no problems there. The K3 User Manual suggests using 'Data - AFSK A' mode for soundcard based RTTY which I have tried to do. In AFSK A mode on the K3, I can only key the radio via MVARI and not via the N1MM main window (F1-F12 macros). However, if I set the K3 to 'PSK - D' mode, it does work from the main window. Re: [Elecraft] N1MM RTTY K3
Terry, I just went through something similar. Make sure the MARK frequency in MMTTY (which N1MM uses) matches the mark frequency in the K3. In data mode, hold the PITCH button and you see mark and shift. ALso make sure that MMTTY is set to use the soundcard (Options, Misc). I suspect this is more of an N1MM Logger question than a K3 question. Here are some first stabs at it, but for follow up you should perhaps be asking this question on the N1MMLogger-Digital group at Yahoo. In your last sentence, I presume you meant FSK D and not PSK D. N1MM Logger does not support PSK D. In PSK D, all you will get when you transmit from the Logger is an unmodulated carrier. Also, MMVARI does not support FSK, so if you are using the MMVARI engine with the K3 in FSK D, again all you will get is an unmodulated carrier on transmit. To use FSK D from N1MM Logger, you need to use the MMTTY engine and supply an on-off keying signal to the K3's FSK input. From your description, you are using the sound card to provide the modulation, and AFSK A is the mode you really want to use. For AFSK RTTY using either MMTTY or MMVARI, you need to ensure that in N1MM's Configurer under the Mode Control tab you have mapped RTTY to AFSK for both DI windows. If you map it to RTTY, the K3 will be in FSK D, which won't work for you. Check this by looking at the mode in the title bar of the entry window and in the band amp; it must read AFSK. When you say you can only key the radio via MMVARI, what do you mean by key? Do you mean switch the radio to transmit, or do you mean get non-zero output? If it's the former, there is a problem with PTT. If you are using PTT via radio command or via RTS on the radio control serial line, you do not need to check any of the Digital boxes in the configurer, but if you are using a separate serial port, you need to check the Digital box for that port, click on the Set button and set the Dig Wnd Nr to 1. If it's the latter, I suspect that the problem may be a mode mismatch - see above. I'm off to another location now for a contest, but I'm sure there are other people who can help you either here or on the N1MMLogger-Digital group. 73, Rich VE3KI __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Rick, OZ5RM I don't have my K3 right now [in the Elecraft shop], but there is a menu item [CONFIG:RS232?] where you can select DTR and RTS for PTT and CW keying. Pick your choice, write it down, then go to N1MM and in the Configure menu item, choose the top one [Ports]. Select the COM port you're using, check CW, and put the DTR/RTS settings in the appropriate fields. [Elecraft] N1MM and K3 interface ?
I just tried to interface N1MM software with my K3 using the Elecraft USB to RS-232 cable. Problrm is that as the program comes up the PTT line is asserted. I tried monkeying with the DTR and RTS settings resulting that the transceiver continued to be in the transmit mode. I could only release rig by shutting down N1MM software. Now this must be simple! RE: [Elecraft] N1MM and K3 interface ?
Hi Ed, Yes I know. I've had solutions like that before I got myself a Winkey because of the stuttery CW from N1MM. I've keyed and PTT'ed my FT1K through parallel and serial ports, depending on computer available hi. But with slower computers in a network and a couple of thousands qso's during the contest the bad CW of N1MM became annoying. The winkey solution works great, also with old computers. Used it today on the WAG contest. 73 Arie PA3A -Oorspronkelijk bericht- Van: Ed K1EP [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Verzonden: zondag 19 oktober 2008 20:49 Aan: Arie Kleingeld PA3A; elecraft@mailman.qth.net Onderwerp: RE: [Elecraft] N1MM and K3 interface ?
