100% agree,I have been using the CM-500 for almost a year now on my K3,TX and
RX audio is awesome, construction quality is superior to Heil boomsets, and the
price is just $54  instead of over a hundred from Heil, you can have it on your
easrs for many hours without been feeling tired.Either for punchy dx audio or
for ESSB wider audio, the CM-500 have to be the choice,73

Good advice. I concur

I have never been happy with any of the 3 Heil Mic's I have had. Too much
money for so little quality..just my 2cents..keep the change!...(:-))

Add my vote for the Yamaha CM500.

I have retired my BM5-4, BM10-4 and my Koss SB40 modified
with a DX4 capsule and moved my ProSet DX4 to the portable
kit.

I use the CM500 exclusively now with great results, plus, my
glasses small piano wire frame legs dont cause creases in my
temples anymore.

The CM500 is extremely comfortable and sounds just
wonderful, both for receiving and transmitting!

Re: [Elecraft] New Heil Elite iC pro set with HC-6

2010-08-26 Thread Robert Mitilieri - N9EF
I have the Heil Pro Elite HC6 (not the Pro iC) and it works great with the K3.
I've adjusted the TX equalizer to make it sound almost like the Heil Goldline
and set another TX equalizer setting to make it sound like an HC5. The Pro
Elite uses the same adapter as the the other Heil boomsets that don't need bias
(the Kenwood adapter).

The HC6 has a very wide response curve and I needed to adjust the first three
equalizer bands way down or it sounded very muddy. I also boosted the highs to
add some presence but that may depend on your voice.

Re: [Elecraft] New Heil Elite iC pro set with HC-6

2010-08-26 Thread Bill Conkling
From Heil advertising, the HC-6 is a Dynamic Element, not an electret type
like the IC units they make for ICOM and others including Elecraft.
Therefore it does not require BIAS and would use the regular Kenwood adapter
for front panel connections.

I have had great success with the Yamaha CM-500 headset, and it plugs right
into the real jacks.

Re: [Elecraft] New Heil Elite iC pro set with HC-6

2010-08-26 Thread Joe Subich, W4TV

Don,

The Proset iC is an electret element designed for use with Icom
radios. All Heil microphones are not created equal, the type
  designation is important.

The original question (which I quoted) mixed the two elements but the
answers are still correct: the HC6 element should have no bias and the
CM-500 performs as well or better than either the Proset Elite iC or
Proset Elite HC6.

The Proset Elite is available in two versions HC-6 (full range dynamic
broadcast element) and iC (specially designed high performance
electret condenser). The iC element is used in all of the Heil iC
mics including the Proset K2/K3, Proset iC, Proset Elite iC, Quiet
Phone iC, BM10 iC, Handi Mic iC, and iCM .

The Yamaha mic is spec'd at 100 - 20K vs. 80 - 12.5K for the iC element
or 100 - 12.5K for the HC-6.

In either case, the difference in specifications are insignificant
and certainly don't justify 3 x the price - street prices: $44 for
CM-500 (BH Photo) vs. $149 for Proset Elite HC6 or $159 for Proset
Elite iC (R L Electronics).
