Re: [Elecraft] One minor issue with the KPA500

2011-10-12 Thread Bob Cunnings
Any progress in this area? I'm experiencing the same problem.

KPA500 s/n 468 fw v1.11 with BAND CHG set to STBY
K3 s/n 495 fw v4.42 with PWR SET set to PER BAND

Works correctly when using band change up/down buttons on K3 but when
using band change buttons on KPA500 the power setting for OPER remains
in effect after the change - the STBY power setting is not recalled.

Bob NW8L

This _was_ fixed in the V1.11 firmware. I will be contacting you off-list to
get more details to determine why it may not be working in your setup.

This was supposed to be a timing problem to be resolved with the next FW

Not a big issue but I'd like to go for BAND CHG = STBY...
Anyway, the KPA500 is joy to use.

Re: [Elecraft] One minor issue with the KPA500

2011-07-02 Thread Richard Squire - HB9ANM
Thank you Dave and thank you Jack for your e-mail.
Glad to know this minor problem is known and will be solved soon.
I'm very happy with my KPA500-K S/N 107 which arrived on Monday and was
ready for a smoke test in the (very) early hours on Tuesday morning, hi! All
went smoothly as usual and the KPA500 is a joy to use. It's so well
integrated with the K3, like having a 500W transceiver...
I've had 2-3 other linears but you can't beat the KPA500.
You can't beat the K3/KPA500 combination.
And you can't beat Elecraft! Thanks!

[Elecraft] One minor issue with the KPA500

2011-07-01 Thread Richard Squire - HB9ANM
My KPA500 is working like a champ with my K3 and AUX cable.
But I noticed when BAND CHG is set to STBY (which I prefer in order to avoid
tuning my dipole on the new band with 400 W instead of 20 W by mistake!),
the KPA500 does go into STBY when changing bands but the K3 keeps the lower

is set to NOR.
Anyone else noticed this?
I guess that can be resolved in some future FW release

2011-07-01 Thread Dave Perry
Richard,

I noticed the same thing with my new KPA500. I searched the archives and found
this note from Jack at Elecraft.

Dave, N4QS

This is a timing problem in the communications, and will be fixed in the next
firmware release.

If I hit the Oper/Stby buttons on the KPA500, the K3 displays a message and
selects the proper power drive level. However, I've enabled BAND CHG to
STBY, which switches the KPA500 to STBY whenever I change bands. It does
that, but going to STANDBY by changing bands does NOT send the STBY message
to the K3, so the K3 drive level stays at the OPER level, even though the
 KPA500 is in STBY.

Shouldn't the KPA500 tell the K3 it has gone to standby via QSY? That would
 keep things in synch better.
