Hi Ken. My pooter doesn't have any serial ports so I use USB/serial adaptors. Have you found any Linux (Fedora Core 3 but it shouldn't matter which distro) drivers for there adaptors? Much depends on the specific adaptors you got: I have a Xircom and a Prolific, the first is only good for the data interface (hamlib/xlog) because toggling RTS/DTR is unreliable while the latter works flawlessly under all circumstances (system: Debian Sarge, kernel 2.6.11.6). You shouldn't need any special drivers. I have used a USB/Serial adaptor with Mandrake without any problems. I can't remember the details but you simply use /dev/USBtty0 or whatever port you are on. Do a google and you will find the details; it's quite straight forward. I would use Linux more for ham radio if there were more ham programmes. I use if for everything else. But there is a lack of good logging software and something like DxAtlas. Jlog is quite good, but doesn't do much in the way of QSL management, label printing etc.. Yes, it's a possibility, though VOX is quite tricky to get right, especially if you change modes often. Also, in the case of my rig (IC-736 for digimodes, I'm only rich enough for a KX1 ;-) VOX does not work in the ACC connector and the MIC has an amp that makes it not really ideal for digimodes. Have no clue as to how the K2 mic input behaves, in this respect. No I meant Jlog http://jlog.org it's Java based, so runs on any platform. I didn't realize that xlog could do that.
