RE: Logo for Ventilation Hole
Koh, In my opinion, this is a totally unacceptable situation. Label or not, some of the units sold will eventually encounter a situation where the ventilation hole gets blocked. Since the design is nearly complete, your choices will be limited. I think that you must include an overtemperature shutdown device such as a bimetal, thermal fuse, or PTC thermistor. All coffemakers, portable hair dryers, and similar devices include them. If you do not, you run the risk of major lawsuits, especially in the U.S. market. If a child becomes injured the financial penalties could be massive. Due to the current drawn is high and heat are dissipated. Therefore the encloseure need some ventilation hole. Unfortunately, till the very late stage of the design cycle, they found out if this ventilation hole was blocked, it will cause the plastic enclosure to melt. A question was asked, Is there a safety label/logo that we can affixed onto the plastic enclosure so that to tell user not to block this enclosure? (Or not to place it in a area where the ventilation will be blocked.) I've never seen such label or logo before. Has anyone out there seen such type of label/logo? Any advice from the group would be much appreciated. Regards Koh --- This message is from the IEEE EMC Society Product Safety Technical Committee emc-pstc discussion list. ADSL system. FCC requirements
Dear Group, We have ADSL system comprising subscriber unit (SU) and Central Office unit (COU). Please advise 1. Do we need FCC68 for COU? It is connected in parallel with the existing POTS service and theoretically can affect parameters such as REN and noise in POTS bandwidth. 2. I believe that FCC15 is covered by Bellcore CR-1089 EMC tests, which we did. Do we still need a statement of compliance with FCC15 on COU (for custom or the like). 3. Is FCC15 is applicable to CO units at all (say we did not have Bellcore report)? Your prompt response is much appreciated. Peter Merguerian Managing Director Product Testing Division I.T.L. RE: Logo for Ventilation Hole
Koh Beware, the 6th edition of IEC60065, clause 4.3.10 calls for a fault conditions test whereby each group of ventilation openings is blocked in turn. Groups of openings are defined as 1) those on the top and 2) those on the sides and back excluding the front. It sounds like your product would fail this test.
