Re: [PSES] Tracking critical component suppliers
All, A quick update. I did find that DigiKey has supplier line cards and sometimes a brief company history, http://www.digikey.com/en/supplier-centers & http://www.digikey.com/en/supplier-centers/e/eaton. Possibly some of the other online distribution companies have similar information. Re: [PSES] Tracking critical component suppliers
Dave & Brian, This has been my experience as well. I know some companies make money tracking this kind information; probably well deserved, it's a big job. And it now occurs to me that some of the other paid for services giving RoHS updates may also have current vendor information. I have an ad hoc ERP that links to a company Part Master csv export with manufacturer and supplier info. I also link part numbers to all of the safety pertinent data like certs, voltage, thermal, etc. So I will continue listing known suppliers in my critical parts lists and add "*or equivalent*" where appropriate. Re: [PSES] Tracking critical component suppliers
I don’t know of a clearing house but I have all our critical component information (OEM, part numbers, approvals, ratings) managed electronically in our ERP system. There is a separate record for each component and for each OEM. When an OEM morphs I just update the OEM record with the new information but keeping some history so we know what it was. If an OEM splits then maybe a need a new additional record. We run into this all the time. Also related is when a Manufacturer name turns into a brand name like Bussmann fuses made by Bussmann Manufacturing, then McGraw Electric, then Cooper Industries, now Eaton still making Bussmann fuses. I guess AMP was in the same boat. Others re-brand the products under the new Manufacturer. -Dave From: Doug Powell [mailto:doug...@gmail.com] Sent: Tuesday, December 06, 2016 11:18 AM To: EMC-PSTC@LISTSERV.IEEE.ORG Subject: [PSES] Tracking critical component suppliers All, We all know that the last several years there have been many mergers and acquisitions of suppliers that provide safety critical components. Re: [PSES] Tracking critical component suppliers
Not aware of any ‘centralized’ database, but some vendors (future, avnet, etc) routinely issue PCNs that cover the major component suppliers. This seems to catch most of these product announcements for me.
