A quick google of it shows that 2.6v is typically the breaking point for
failure. Replace the battery.

I did check that yesterday. I didn't have a replacement for it so I checked the
voltage on the one that was in there and it was still around 2.6v. I'm not sure
what the range on those is before they start causing issues. But you're right, I
probably should do that. I've had this particular desktop for ages so it
wouldn't be a big surprise if that did fix the issue. I just wanted to see if
anyone else had encountered these kinds of errors.

Thanks,

I expect a lot of that would be fixed by a restore to defaults, then
resetting anything you know to be better if its changed. You sent a PM,
but I put it back on the list for archival reasons.

[Emc-users] Help Debugging Config.

2015-10-22 Thread Todd Zuercher
I created a configuration for one of our twin spindle routers (Z and W axis).
In order to take advantage of the new trajectory planner, I could not use W
movements in the carving G-code (only XYZ work). As a workaround I made a
config that can use a couple of M1xx codes to slave and unslave the movement of
the W axis to the Z. It seemed work quite well in a sim stepper config, but I
am having some trouble with it on the real machine with servos.

To slave the W to the Z I will command both axis to the same height (relative
to the material) usually with a g0z1w1, followed by the slaving M-code m122.
This uses a couple of Mux2 components to connect the z-position command + an
offset to the w-PID and the w-PID error + w-position command are connected to
the w-feedback. So (when it's working) while the W is moving with the Z, the
DRO shows W=1(+/- servo error).

The problems I am having are:
After first starting Linuxcnc, the first time I call the axis slaving command
(M122) I almost always get a joint 8 following error, the Linuxcnc goes into
shutdown (F2), and even while in shutdown or e-stop the DRO for the W will
continue to runaway, but the axis will show no movement. If I Press F2 and
issue an MDI G0W1, it will usually return the W back to what it should be, and
I can unslave the axis and return to normal behavior.

After this initial screw-up it will often behave fine for the rest of the day,
slaving and unslaving at the start and end of each run.

But once in a while for some reason it randomly does the DRO w runaway (w-axis
hasn't actual ever moved noticeably). Issuing an MDI w command usually rights
it.

This afternoon it took off once when no one was watching and when I got to it,
F1 and F2 (e-stop and machine power) were completely unresponsive, while W DRO
showed over 43K inches and climbing. Since I could not re-power the control, I
could not issue the MDI w command. I had to close Axis and restart.

Any suggestions

I also posted this question to the Forum, and a copy of the servo config is
posted there.

Chris,

If your CR2032 battery is showing below 3 VDC, it's toast. I'm 99.99%
sure that's the cause of your problems. They'll drain a lot faster if
your CPU box is not plugged in to keep the motherboard powered up,
because it'll draw on the battery rather than house current to keep
the settings in your CMOS.

[Emc-users] some weird issues

2015-10-22 Thread chris
I've got some weird issues that have popped up recently. One of the first things
that I noticed is that the is when I pan the image around in the axis screen
it's really jerky, which is how it used to be, then after updating it got to
where it was really smooth, now it's back to acting like that. Another issue
I'm having is that the date and time setting are wrong every time I start up the
computer. I'll reset them and when I restart the computer they are off again.
Another issue that I'm having is at startup I keep getting a message about cmos
settings and size being wrong, I have to click on F2 to continue the startup. I
was finally able to update the system today after a couple weeks of it failing
every time I tried. I'm just curious if something on my system is messed up or
if something in one of the updates might have messed things up. I had been
working perfectly and flawlessly.

Ubuntu 10.04 was an LTS (Long Term Support) version, issued in April
2010, IIRC. LTS means that it is supported for 5 years on servers and 3
years on the desktop. Either way, it's no longer supported; there'll be
no more updates for it.

I tried to upgrade to 12.04 a while ago, but the installation failed to
complete on several attempts, so I now run Debian 7.8.0 on my desktop
machine.

For a LinuxCNC host, wouldn't you just download
http://www.linuxcnc.org/linuxcnc-2.7-wheezy.iso
to become current?

ISTM that we're onto a Debian 7 base there, rather than Ubuntu, but I
haven't been paying enough attention to the latest developments to be
certain of that.
