Re: [Emc-users] Error on loading 5i25/7i76

2020-10-11 Thread Alan Condit
Thanks all,

It wasn’t anything other than a senior brain fart. I had the parallel cable
plugged into the pc’s parallel port instead of the 5i25. After I checked out
the cable from the outside of the box to the 7i76 and found nothing wrong, I
woke up in the middle of the night and realized what I had done wrong. Duh!!!

And I have this clear at the bottom of my .ini file, but only on one of

If you still have the old config files then they should still work.
(LinuxCNC will make the required modifications to the INI and HAL
automatically[1])

[1] Has anyone heard any stories of that script not working? I was
expecting a rash of failures and error reports.

Not finding the 7I76 could be a cable issue or missing 5V or field power at the
7I76. It can also be due to mis-set cable power jumpers on the 7I76 and 5I25

After a 2k mile move, and its not finding the 7i76 which it has to do
thru the sserial port on the 5i25, I'd suspect you put it back together
with a duff cable. Stick both ends of it back in the vice and give it a
squeeze if its the usual IDC connectors, and padding the open end of the
tin shell with a piece of softer flat wood. If that doesn't work, I'd
undertaken to 'ring' it, wire by wire with an ohmmeter. If its iffy,
make a new cable. I keep a roll of 26 wire ribbon cable, stripping one
wire off it to make it 25, and connectors "on the shelf" just in case.
This is a case where gold flashed

[Emc-users] Error on loading 5i25/7i76

2020-10-09 Thread Alan Condit
I am trying to configure my 5i25/7i76 for my CNC Lathe. I had a working
configuration for 2.7.x but I may have lost it in our move from Oregon to Iowa.
I took what I thought was the working configuration, I probably made a mistake.
I upgraded to 2.8 without verifying the configuration.

I ran pcnconf on the configuration and now I am getting the following error
when I try to start it up.
