Re: [Emc-users] OT: KVMs
Well, I've used a bunch of different KVM systems, and they all suck more or less. I've had far, far better luck using some sort of network-connected virtual desktop (Remote Desktiop, VNC, forwarded X, etc). If you must go with KVM, I'd suggest keeping an eye out on epay/craigslist for used IP KVMs. Much less cabling to run around. -Pete On Aug 1, 2011, at 2:24 PM, Frank Tkalcevic wrote: > I'm in the process of replacing one central computer with individual atom > based computers inside each electrical cabinet for my router, lathe and soon > mill. > > I'm wondering if anyone is using a KVM (Keyboard/Video/Mouse switch box), > and what to look out for? > What is better, long runs of DVI or VGA? Synergy is very handy if you have a monitor for each box. -Pete On Aug 1, 2011, at 7:20 PM, Kyle Kerr wrote: > Have you given any thought or looks at a program called > Synergy(http://synergy-foss.org/)? > > -- > BlackBerry® DevCon Americas, Oct. 18-20, San Francisco, CA > The must-attend event for mobile developers. Re: [Emc-users] OT: KVMs
5 meters is not a problem for VGA or PS2 Keyboard or Mouse connections, just buy decent cables. You will need an amplified USB cable to go that far but very reasonable with the right extension cable. Shop around as cable prices and quality varies wildly. As I recall, long DVI cables are pricy. Good KVMs are expensive. [Emc-users] OT: KVMs
I'm in the process of replacing one central computer with individual atom based computers inside each electrical cabinet for my router, lathe and soon mill. I'm wondering if anyone is using a KVM (Keyboard/Video/Mouse switch box), and what to look out for? What is better, long runs of DVI or VGA? (about 5 meters max). Is there any issue with electrical noise? I don't want to rely on a remote X connection to the box.
