So, purely a physical interface, no optos or anything like that. First, with nothing connected and using a multimeter check that the parallel port input pin sits at +5V. Then short it to one of the 0V pins with a bit of wire and check that doing that changes the state of the input in the software. Then make sure that the voltage measured between the prox output wire and the prox 0V wire is always less than 5V both with the prox switched and not-switched. (I just checked, and that is the case for mine). If all that works then you should be able to connect the prox output wire to the parport, even though the prox is working at 12V. -- atp If you can't fix it, you don't own it. http://www.ifixit.com/Manifesto -- Introducing Performance Central, a new site from SourceForge and AppDynamics. Re: [Emc-users] Proximity home switch
Aaron I usually fit a small switch mode PSU (1A to 3A) to my control box to power proximity switches and relays. Some breakout boards will supply 24v already but I always provide my own 24v. I am not sure about the 5V units but as far as I know the industrial quality stuff can run from 10V to 30V or round about there.
