We don't have a hard deadline for 2.6. We're waiting on a couple of
other feature branches: the new rtos support branch, and the joints/axes
branch. Once those go in i'll make the 2.6 branch.

Sebastian, does that mean that 2.6 will have separate joints and axes like
ja3?

It's not clear yet... I think there are lots of good useful changes in
the joints_axes3 branch that i'd like to have in 2.6, but i'm not sure
if it's stable enough to merge this time around. I'm currently
investigating, i hope we can come to a decision on whether to merge
joints_axes3 in the coming weeks.

Sebastian, thank you for your proposal. Yes, I will be happy to
 integrate
it within official distribution. What is the procedure I need to
 follow ?
About the pendant you are pointing, I do not know if it works with my
 hal
module. I use the one displayed in the wiki page.

The procedure is somewhat documented on our wiki for now:

 http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?Git

We've gotten some feedback that the description on that wiki page are
not as clear as they could be, and i'm (slowly) working on better
docs. But that's the best we have at the moment.

In brief, what you should do is this:

 1. clone the git repo at git://git.linuxcnc.org/git/linuxcnc.git
 2. create and check out a new branch off master
 3. add your new driver to your new branch
 4. either push your branch to a public git repo (lots of us like to
use github for this), or prepare your commits for email submission
 5. send us a link to your repo or an email with your commits

Then I'll take a look at your branch and help with any build and
 packaging integration issues.

Let me know if any of the steps above are not clear and i'll try to
 explain more.

Thanks for helping make LinuxCNC better!

Thank you very much. The procedure looks clear.
What is the deadline to have it ready for LinuxCNC 2.6 ?

Since your work is a stand-alone driver, it's fairly isolated and should
have minimal impact on the rest of the project. Therefore I'm more
willing to accept it later in the release process.

I think it would be beneficial for you and your users to get it into the
master branch sooner rather than later, to get improved ease of use and
the wider testing that comes from it, but it's up to you.

Wow, re-reading that i see that it sounds very vague. Let me try this
instead: Can you have a branch ready for review in a week or two? ;-)

I have I guess quite recent version of this pendant and have successfully
tested on 2.5.2, Frederic also adjusted it for smooth jog in case of using it
in world mode..

Now I have installed also 2.6.0-pre (run in place) and there I'm receiving an
error, described here:
http://www.linuxcnc.org/index.php/english/forum/24-hal-components/26679-xhc-hb04-wireless-mpg-pendant-hal-module?start=40

Maybe at this place, someone else could test it on his machine, so we can see
if error is related only to my machine or it is related to Run in place version
of linuxcnc, or something totally different ...

Frederic, have you been using this pendant?

Are the driver hardware working well?

Do you still want to integrate it with LinuxCNC? The feature freeze for
2.6 is approaching. I'll be happy to help you integrate it if you want.

That unit does look nice. But the wireless thing scares me a bit.
Someone test one of those out on a small machine. :-)

I did get a Pendant from this chinese supplier:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-CNC-4-Axis-Pendant-MPG-Handwheel-Emergency-stop-Switch-controller-/281117912050?

The total bill was $92 including shipping from Hong Kong and I got it in
less than 2 weeks.

The unit looks to be of decent quality. The MPG has a good feel and it
does not feel cheap. The coil cord is like a small rubber SO cord with
flying leads and
of decent quality. Time will tell how it holds up.For $92 I would
say it is a very good deal. I would not hesitate to buy another unit
from this seller.

2013-06-23 Thread Tomaz T .
I'm using Logitech's wireless keyboard (K360) for more than a year now, without
any single issue regarding wireless connection, and didn't hesitate ordering
this pendant...

Wow that looks like a really nice unit man I have been wanting
something like That for my VMC here. My only concern is the wireless
nature and if it will cause problems. It certainly looks like it has tons
 of features. Peace

Re: [Emc-users] USB Pendant (XHC HB04)

2013-06-23 Thread Frederic RIBLE

My experience is too short to conclude if there are issues or not with
wireless.
I see on ebay a very similar pendant with wired connection :
http://www.ebay.com/itm/CNC-Wireless-MACH3-USB-4-Axis-MPG-Pendant-HandWheel-/221236705741?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0hash=item3382bc39cd
We have good chance that the USB protocol is close to the one used for
the wireless, because the manual and device driver are the same.
It is worth trying. I can help if some HAL module code modifications are
required.
Frederic.

I have developed a HAL module for this kind of MPG pendant.

Would you be interested in adding this to the LinuxCNC distribution? I
think that this model of pendant is likely to become quite common, and
that LinuxCNC ought to support it.

[Emc-users] USB Pendant (XHC HB04)

2013-06-03 Thread Ted Hyde
Not to hijack the recent pendant thread, but I thought I saw scrolling
past that someone may have had working the XHC pendants with LCNC?
These are (rather sexy) USB or USB-Wireless units with an MPG, LCD for
DRO and button pad. I picked up one of the wireless units, despite my
misgivings about wireless control, more for fun with a friend who is
still running Mach3 (so I could give it away if needed) - but thinking
that maybe that someday I might actually get the time to see if HIDCOMP
would see it.

Although these are available from a variety of sellers,
http://www.automationtechnologiesinc.com/products-page/mpgs/wireless-mpg-handwheel-for-mach3-controller

is the most loved distributor by the Mach guys, currently.

This isn't a plug for this device, as I certainly don't have it working
(at all) with LinuxCNC (or even Mach at the moment) - but I'm fishing to
see if someone already has

Regards,

Ted.

It would be really nice to have wireless control like this, as in my case, I
have bit larger machine, and for zeroing the part, I literally need to be in
the machine and do it. For now I'm struggling with Logitech wireless
keyboard... I might give it a try to wireless gamepad if it will do the job for
temporary...

I believe the rub comes in on the USB is because if a device has any
storage in it, like a 2Gb usb-key, the system has to scan it for mistaken
organization. That takes time screws with lcnc. Take the storage out of
the scene, and I believe its effect is relatively minimal. Heck, I'm using
USB wireless keyboard and mouse on the lathe, and the only time I have a
problem is if the receiver gizmo gets knocked off the top of the spindle
housing, its cable can reach the floor, and that too long a range for
reliable operation with those puny powered bluetooth used in those.
