Re: [Emc-users] Workshop / EMC fest

2009-03-05 Thread Steve Stallings
This is a tough year for shows. Roland really wanted to
have the CNC Workshop in spite of his difficulties. He
finally had to accept the harsh reality that it was too
much to accomplish given the combination of his health
and moving out of his old company digs.

The Mach 3 Convention planned for April has also been
cancelled due to unexpected changes in the sponsor's
Army Guard obligations and the uncertainty of being
able to reschedule the facility at this late date.

I will be a NAMES and would certainly be able to attend
an EMC Fest immediately afterward in Ann Arbor. Going
to Stuart's would be neat, but I will have to think about
the long trip with no tie in to a commercial show. Late
June or even July would work best for me.

It is beginning to look like Village Press/Digital Machinist
magazine is going to pick up the torch for a CNC Workshop
in 2010. They are based in Traverse City, MI so I would
guess they would plan on Michigan or similar for the
show. NOW is the time to make them aware of the
unique needs of the EMC fest so that they can evaluate
the possibilities should we try to work with them.

Regards,
Steve Stallings

I'd like to see a replacement for the full range of the
 CNC Workshop,
but if we are only going to have an EMC Fest, I'd like to
 attend that.

If the CNC Workshop doesn't happen, then I'm going to attend the
NAMES show for sure. Have to start planning, it is only 6
 weeks away!

Thanks in advance for any news anyone can report,

I think it's up to us to decide. Nobody is going to be
 able to make a
full Workshop replacement this year because there's no
 longer time. I
also haven't heard any talk of anyone wanting to do it.

So I propose we narrow our goals to something EMC-specific.
  That's my
  interest anyway.

We've had several offers of venues for an EMC meeting. I think
Stuart's is the most appealing because of interesting
 ongoing projects
  there. So that's my preference.

Stuart is closer to me than Ann Arbor, so I also prefer that.
I'd also love to see his shop, and the 5-axis Cinci mill!
I'm planning on going to NAMES, too, and I think Steve
Stallings is also going there. So, maybe we need a breather
between April 17 and the EMC fest. Probably June would be
fine, though, if people were already reserving some time that month.

As for projects, I will have my commutation converter for
Panasonic brushless motors, and hopefully it can be adapted
 to other motors, too.
Also, I'd like to work on a low-pass filter on the D term of
the PID, to try to get rid of the 1/2 F sampling jitter.
(Yes, a surprisingly sparse offering for a whole year)

 Jon

I recall there being a suggestion for something in Ann Arbor due to its
proximity for Toledo and coinciding with the NAMES show. I live in the
Toledo area and certainly wouldn't mind seeing it held in this neck of the
woods. A² is only a 45 min drive from Toledo. I don't have any space to
offer (here or in A²) for a gathering (or time to commit to planning, etc.)
but would like to attend some CNC workshop/EMC fest sessions, etc. I will
be attending NAMES as well Jon.

I have a couple ideas for a workshop/fest location that I could work on
softening up for next year.
