[E-devel] E17 Hangs In xrandr Under FreeNX
I pulled and built an update yesterday, and since then E will not start in my nxClient session. It starts without issue on a local console. I am currently at rev 51467. I ran E under GDB, and hit CTRL-C after it hung to get a backtrace, which I am attaching. I don't think that the display presented by FreeNX is xrandr-capable, but I could be wrong on that. It works as long as you remove the pam_console.so line (otherwise pam compilation fails on a fresh emerge of pam). In the above pam file, you refer to envfile=/etc/default/locale. No such file is present in both my x86 and amd64 gentoo systems. Talking to some people on IRC, it looks like /etc/default/locale only serves to set your (surprise) locale, à la LANG=en_US.UTF-8. Since we handle that differently in Gentoo, I don't think it will hurt to leave that line in entrance's PAM config alone, or omit it altogether. The module uses the screen size (minus shelves), you want to virtually make your screen smaller? Best regards, Michael By not independently I meant, shrinking one window vertically would grow the window adjacent to that edge accordingly. So if I have 3 windows on a desktop, one on the Left (Big Main), and two on the right - one on top and one below; and I drag the top border of the lower window to make it shorter, the top window should resize /with/ that drag to become taller. Basically the same behavior as narrowing/widening the big-main window. I hope I managed to clarify, and not muddle things... So I could create my theme for various apps, modules and toolkit. But the users doesn't see this. It's only one big theme for all together. Yes this is entirely possible. They use separate name spaces and shouldn't overlap one another. Also, EWL uses data keys to map it's widgets to edje collections so you can avoid any overlap that way. From my point of view its too complex, and, moreover is not flexible enough. For example I like to use milky them for E, but prefer Darkness theme for ETK applications. So, if I install milky theme = I'm happy with E, but not happy whit ETK applications. I would personaly say that most users will want uniformity. When they select at theme they expect everything to match. However I think every theme should be overideable on an app or lib basis. edje is very suited for apps like xmms and such and not every one wants everything to look the same. I can't say what I think the best way to do this would be but having tons of theme selectors (one per app) would seem overkill. One integrated selector say in e's window dropdown menu would be perfect; In my opinion anyway and would make it feel very uniform. I could see how that might not be the easiest thing programaticly though. -- Aleksej Struk Master Degree Student Free University of Bozen-Bolzano Faculty of Computer Science phone: +39-0471-061749 cell phone: +39-3204627049 +370-61278908 [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] - http://astruk.googlepages.com/home What about a global tool to manage theme, where you can select an application and associate it with a theme? You would have an option to set all application using a theme, maybe also a group of application. Edje applications would register to this tool on install, so that the list is accurate. The tool could change the application theme file directly, or with a different approach, the application would ask the tool what theme to use, or look in a configuration file, like /etc/edje/theme.conf with lines like : * milky etk Darkness eclair milky and so on. I like this. Perhaps a pane in the theme selection dialog to assign themes to etk, ewl and edje apps (as groups) and a place to create a list of applicatoins with specific theme assignments? And for those who want to select one theme and be done with it, there could be a radio button or checkbox for 'Apply Theme Globally' or something similar, which would disable the per-app/per-toolkit selections. uberpinguin - Take Surveys. Re: [E-devel] Module Popup Policy
On Thu, 2007-02-22 at 19:15 +0100, Brian 'morlenxus' Miculcy wrote: Hi all, there was a small discussion on the irc about the module popup policy. Currently each module has his own policy: - mixer opens the popup on click - net module opens on mouse over, if you click the popup stays open - weather opens on mouse over, no click event So i think there should be a standard for the module popup. Here is my idea: Mouse over: The mouse over popup is enabled by default. You can disable it using an option in the module configuration dialog. Click: The click locks the popup. This means, if you leave the module icon area, the popup isn't closed. If you want to unlock the popup, you need to click once again. A nice feedback to the user would be a little lock icon. If the mouse over popup is disabled, a click would open the popup and locks it. To close the popup simply click. The mouse over gives you a quick view at the popup without much user interaction. The locking mode allows you to have a popup with useful informations open, while running some other processes. Example: A memory module shows in the popup a list with the top memory eating applications (i guess firefox would be at the first position). The list is updated every second. If you now lock the popup you would be able to kill the applications with some xterm commands - while still having the list open and show you informations. Without the locking mode you would need to hover the module icon again and again after running a command, just to see if there has been something changed. I guess the user would open another xterm and run `top` there, so the module popup information would be a nice eyecatcher, but doesn't really help. Another example would be a calendar module which shows a month view in the popup. Sometimes you just want to know a day in the next week, sometimes you want to write some email while having the month view on screen. Imho it's useful. :) Comments?
