That's a great contribution and personal effort on your part,
but I'd have to disagree with your statement about it being 'wasted'
unless e17 is released sooner or later (or even if it were ever to be
'released' at all).
Not everyone feels that e17 is more or less important than
the development libs or tools. Obviously raster, and many others,
feel the e17 desktop/gadget-shell is of great importance - personally
and otherwise.. but to feel that it's the only work that defines the
value of the E project is a very narrow viewpoint (and an unfortunate
consequence of the way the project has evolved over time).

There are other excellent things written with the efl: eterm,
entrance, enna, canola, freevo's stuff, ... etc.
If seeing MORE great apps written is what people here want,
interesting apps that are *easier* and *faster* to write (including
e17 and various possible modules), then furthering the state of the
development tools/libs is of primary importance.. e17 is just ONE app
written via these things and its development, as well as other apps',
can be done "in parallel" with that of the dev tools, each driving
and benefitting from the other.
But people here have to learn to see and work that way, rather
than block things from evolving.

[E-devel] Edje MAX and MIN values

2008-02-12 Thread Toma
Hey all,
Working on a edje background and just wondering if theres a way to
specify a max value for a specific axis rather than needing to set X
and Y.

For instance, I have a 300x300 image that I want to stretch along the
X axis as far as possible but dont want Y to be stretched ever. so, i
set "max: 1 300"... now that works fine. Just wondering it it
would be possible to get -1 to act as a "Stretch forever along this
axis" type rule. At the moment i get a edje_cc: Error. :44
float -1.000 out of range of 0.000 to 2147483647.000 inclusive

Thanks!
Toma-

[E-devel] todo item: "Language Packs"

2008-02-12 Thread andres
I spent hundreds of hours learning and writing about the EFL and all this time
will be wasted if the flagship product of the EFL, the dr17 window manager,
is not released in a reasonable time frame.

So I decided to solve one item from the "Essential Features" every day I
dedicate to writing about the EFL.

Today, I picked what seemed to be a simple item:
"language packs: need to have a tool to load/setup a language pack (which
means .mo compiled files from a .po, an optional font and a config file that
specifies the locale and font) and then install the font(s) either as a user
or superuser, and the .mo in the system or a user locales dir."

My idea was assembling the locale, font file and mo file into a single eet
file and implement a instaler in the language config module.

Since there was no love for the idea nor an alternative solution for this item
in IRC I'm requesting to you, all knowing, all powerful mailing list: "What
is the way to go?"

Re: [E-devel] Edje / EDC file, detect two images interacting (draging one to the other)

Just to get back to this a bit...

Ideally, both edc and embryo-scripting could be extended
enough that one could use it to deal with most gui 'problems' one
might encounter (more or less of course). I think this is raster's
ultimate wish for edje. :)
This would be akin to what Mozilla xul+javascript, Flex
mxml+action-script, MS xaml+something(?), or Sun JavaFX, all do --
in their own way.

One might also wish for edj/edc to allow for further kinds
of scripting besides embryo, and for it to use code-logic loaded from
external sources as well (this is something which I believe MS's
xaml allows). That way, one could use not only embryo scripts,
but also say (external) python scripts, ruby scripts,... or C code.
ie. use edc to define the ui, and possibly load/execute suitable
logic in other associated files if desired.

Hisham's evolve (+edje/edc) does some of the extending, by
enabling standard gui-toolkit widgets to be defined via an edc-like
syntax (hopefully, it'd become more widget-kit agnostic at some point,
right now it's etk-widgets only), but I'm not sure just how much
it allows on the 'scripting' or 'code-logic' side.

I think it'd be great to hear what both raster and/or
codewarrior (or anyone else) have in mind, or just "wish" for,
regarding this.
