Hi,

i know the link was down... now it should work.
those files are now outdated and i will repack the files and write a
README about how to include them in in the cvs

and if you are interested in such a module write me and i will send
you the files. now i don't know what is the policy to distribute an

i think that a e17 module should not be place in e17 cvs so if there
are people interested in this module i will create a makefile to build
it and install it in the user dir.

 here
 http://c7obs.net/~adi/projects/e17/
you can find the sources for the modules. use the tutorial from
edevelop.org to add it into your e17 cvs tree.
also you can find the binary files and if you will copy them into the
location denoted by their name you should have the module working.

after this I looked for adesklets (I been looking forward to try

So, is it still like that?
Is there any way to make them work?

I believe etk is the old toolkit, and ewl is the new. Only ewl is in E17.

Marcel Sugano, il 02/10/2005 23:18, scrisse:
 Hello there!

I was using DR16.X a long time, and now, i have started the trail to DR17.
 I've been using e17 downloaded from freedesktop.org, and i like a lot
and appreciate the great work that it's been done by the team.
Yesterday, was the first time I try to download the sources from CVS
and compile to get in touch with the latest CVS commits made. But,
when it comes to launch the just-compiled enlightenment, i get stuck.
I can't find enlightenment to link it against .xinitrc, so I only
could see some *_test running around.

I need a little guidance here to start playing with CVS, i just want
to hear from you guys, any set of best practices when the subject is
compiling and launching enlightenment from CVS with something like:
`startx -- :2 -depth 32` , or you can tell me before I spend too much
time on trying to find out the real trans thing, that it still doesn't
work yet. I've compiled Eterm, and i am very excited with the real
trans feature. Is it possible? Or just fake-trans? My system is
 running slackware 10.1, kernel 2.6.10, on P4, 1GB Ram,

your .xinitrc should be a script which runs your preferred window
manager along with other useful things.
if you link it against the binary itself, you lose the ability to set
up other things prior to this.
in slackware you should have other scripts like
/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.something, one for every wm you have installed,
and a symlink /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc ponting to one of them.
take one of these as example to write your /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.e17
putting in it the lines to start e, then make your .xinitrc (or the
system wide /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc if you want it to be the default wm
for all users) linking to it.
of course, if you do not have administrative privileges to put that
file in /etc/X11/xinit/ you should simply put it in your home as your
.xinitrc.

for example, here is how mine is at the very bottom:

XLeds num

PATH=$PATH:/opt/e17/bin

esd

xscreensaver 2 /dev/null

exec /opt/e17/bin/enlightenment

notice that every command that doesn't have to exit have to be
followed by an ampersand or the script will stuck there waiting for it
to exit.
notice also that I have e installed in an unusual path. If you have
it in a canonical path (e.g. /usr/local) you can safely omit the line
setting up the PATH variable.

supposed you have installed all necessary libraries, then its a
relatively simple task.

cd to the sources directory. Copy the attached script. Change the lines
beyond General variables are specified below to your own needs.

As you see my installation directory is /usr/local/enlightenment. Change
that to whatever path you prefer.

Basically there is no need to change FLAGS=-O3 -march=pentium3 on
Intel platforms.
If you are not sure change it to FLAGS=-O1

mkdir sources/logs

then chmod +x Build-e17-0.2.8.4-all.sh

run ./Build-e17-0.2.8.4-all.sh

The build need some time.

2005-10-03 Thread Paul S.
Yes I have. There are some very good instructions on a site whose owner
is a Mandriva faithful user.
http://linuxfordummies.org/viewforum.php?f=45sid=44e5cd6101bc88e2afff8243a7611537
Start with the topic E17 dependencies. If you have urpmi set up
correctly, then just type that all in one line. Just follow the
directions on get-e.org's user guide section 2.1. Or you can download
raster's get_e.sh script or the modified version (someone might have a
link) and you'll be able to compile it manually. Basically the
important part is to compile, go in build order then type ./autogen.sh
make make install. I'd recommend compiling e_utils and e_modules
too.
Hope this helps,
Paul

no, none of them are in E17. and no, etk is not the old toolkit. in
fact, it was just committed in cvs.

but there's some confusion here. why make totally separate libraries,
that do the same thing? why split like that, instead of helping the more
mature library (and both of them are being worked on as we speak)

That's why. Compile engrave and ewl manually using ./autogen.sh make
make install as root in the e17 directories likewise.

Re: [e-users] simple clock module

2005-10-03 Thread adi
Very nice work! I'd be interested in a configure-script and Makefile, so
I can build it on my own. I noticed that you're using %a %d,%b %H:%M
in the sourcecode to set date and time format.
Would it be much work to create a config-dialog to allow a user-defined
time/date-format and maybe change the polling-interval, so I don't have
to change it in the sourcecode? ;)
So would be able to change the polling interval from the menu and the
time format from the edje object. I have put here the new sources

http://www.c7obs.net/~adi/projects/e17/

and i will write a README about in.
you should fallow the tutorial from herehttp://edevelop.org/node/1461
if you want to hack the code.

The ideea is simple.
put the files from usr_lib_e-modules, into your PREFIX/lib/e_modules
dir, modify the .edc to suit your needs (change the background and
time format which is encoded into the state of tclock_format part) and
compile it with edje tclock.edj

put the files from usr_lib_enlightenment_modules-extra into your
PREFIX/lib/enlightenment/modules_extra dir and load and enable the
module with enlightenment_remote -module-load tclock.

if you have recent cvs e17 it will work.

now i don't know much about autotools and i don't know how to create a
special configure.in only file for this module.

have fun
adi

Re: [e-users] entangle segfault

2005-10-03 Thread Paul S.
No just do it yourself. Compiling ain't that hard. Just cd (path to
cvstree of e17)/e17/libs/engrave, then make sure you have sudo access,
then just type ./autogen.sh make make install, then cd ../ewl
and ./autogen.sh make make install. It's all on get-e.org and if
you'd read the documentation you'd know this. All raster's script does
is just save you having to type a few steps. I'm sorry I'm chewing you
out but it's just you've gotta learn to try to solve problems yourself.
It's kinda frustrating. Again sorry for chewing you out but it's the
truth.
