If you want to try you could disable it by running this in ~/.e/e/config/_your_profile_/ while not being logged into e: eet -d e.cfg config $21 | sed -e '/^.*E_Config_XKB_Layout/,+5d' | sed -e '/^.*xkb\./,+0d' tmp eet -e e.cfg config tmp 1 The fix (for me) is pretty simple. For example, I open Konsole (or terminology) and type 'qwerty'. What shows up on screen is 'qey'. The letters are different every login. I've tried two keyboards as well. Everything works great under Kubuntu. Any ideas? e17 does modify X's keyboard settings for while. I've also seen the issue with loosing keys when using e with my heavily modified xmodmap. I haven't been able to fully list steps to reproduce yet, but some of the symptoms I have are as follows: 1.) Edit window looses focus (greyed out). If the text buffer has changed it won't allow me to save. File context Save All is also disallowed even though the buffer shows change. To save the file I have to close the tab for the file, which will then prompt me to save the file. I then have to dig through my project to reopen the file. 2.) Select text in an editor for a file, find and Replace window (I have mapped to CTRL+F) when invoked will appear but the editor has lost focus so the Find button will be greyed out until the editor window is selected and the Find Replace window is reselected. 3.) When debugging, the thread stack doesn't always allow switching a thread (seems to ignore the click). On a side note, Mono (debugger) also will crash when hovering over a variable in the watch window. A tooltip usually displays extended values of the variable (like a full string). Not sure what else I can do to help, but I will try to see if I can get the issue to be reproducible. Engage only displays on the primary monitor and only shows windows from the primary monitor; it ignores windows from the secondary monitor. add an engage instance on the second screen. maybe one could add a mirror mode as default which starts a new instance with the same config on new screens 3. Scale only works on the active monitor; it won't show windows from both monitors at once. thats how it works currently 4. Re: [e-users] E Built in Compositing Performance is Poor
2011/3/20 Jochen Schröder cycoma...@gmail.com: This discussion actually reminds of something I have been meaning to report for quite a while. I have a desktop system with a low end radeon card, and a laptop with integrated intel card. On both systems I'm using software engine for composite, because it's significantly faster than GL, however when I watch videos (either through vlc/totem or flash) in full-screen they become jerky, not terribly but just enough to notice (I'd say a frame rate of ~15-17). Checking composite full-screen does not make any difference at all. The videos run fine in Gnome with composition enabled. Any ideas? If Gnome is using OpenGL for compositing this is probably faster than software compositing in e17. Does texture_from_pixmap setting work with comp module? Cheers Jochen On 19/03/11 22:15, Carsten Haitzler (The Rasterman) wrote: On Sat, 19 Mar 2011 17:31:04 +0800 P Purkayasthappu...@gmail.com said: It seems to depend on the type of nvidia card you have. I had a T61 with nvidia card NVS140m with 128M video ram. Composite would be decently fast for a while, but gradually get very slow after a couple of hours. The slow-down could be hastened if I dared to run any video via vdpau, or restart e. ecomorph used to run fine for a while, but eventually get slow too (in about a day). I now have a different laptop with nvidia 310M with 1G video ram. composite is really fast in this. The card seems able to run without any slowness, tested for over a week. Restarts of e or playing videos via vdpau has no slow-down effect. The difference between the above two systems was so stark that I believe my earlier graphics card (or the driver) was just not up to the mark. Also, probably composite is more taxing and unforgiving on your gpu than ecomorph/compiz (raster can confirm perhaps?). Eventually, the nvs140m graphics card died suddenly in the middle of playing a video (the infamous nvidia hardware problem). This also leads me to believe that the hardware was not up to the mark. raster has always claimed that composite was smooth on his system (that too with a dual screen setup at high resolution). I presume he has a powerful enough and recent graphics card. actually have a whole range off them. my desktop has the lowest end nvidia - 8600GTS with only 256m ram. laptop actually is the highest end (gt-330m, 1gb vid ram). as such this slowdown issue is almost certainly some nvidia driver resource leak. you will find that no matter how many times you restart the enlightenment process, it will remain slow until an Xorg restart. evas is the rendering engine for e17's comp module. that means it needs what evas needs. evas needs a GLSL capable GPU. old GPU's just don't cut it and drivers that don't support GLSL (properly and efficiently) will be poor. As such a good driver that supports GLSL will perform equally well as compiz. just the baseline support requirement for evas's rendering is higher than compiz (needs newer card and decent drivers). As such all nvidia cards have done full hardware shaders that are GLSL capable since the GF6xxx series. there will be no difference between GLSL and fixed function on these level of cards and up as all the fixed pipeline is implemented as shaders anyway. apparently the open radeon drivers don't (properly) support GLSL shaders, so with ati you're screwed unless you use the gallium drivers i understand. they can do shaders right. fglrx (closed drivers) do do shaders right, but fglrx just cant properly handle direct rendering + compositing, so texture-from-pixmap exhibits bugs. nvidia handles this just fine. the intel drivers do shaders just fine on the 945GM i have and work just fine with e17's comp and speed is good. no resource leak issues. you may want to try the newest nvidia drivers and combinations to see if issues went away. jeffdammeth also suspects loose binding of textures may trigger it, though compiz also can use loose binding (loose binding is a good speedup for nvidia - or was). it might be interesting to disable loose bindings on nvidia (see evas_x_main.c in the gl_x11 engine where it does gw-detected.loose_binding = 1 when detecting nvidia). Like I mentioned earlier, there are no problems if I use a new clean config (with no modules from EXTRA). that'd be the best thing you can do - disable modules u use from e-modules-extra. they are, in general a major vector for bugs like this. Or at least disable them all, then enable one at a time to see which one is the problem, to help their authors fix the bugs. Ok. I just tested this dbus - e thing, adding modules one after another on a new account, with new config. After loading a new module from EXTRA, I kill dbus-launch and dbus-daemon and then I restart e, and then I exit e using System - Logout. Result: no segvs, except for one with module places that occured only once, and that I couldn't reproduce any time after that first time (sorry, no bt :-( ). Not even itask-ng triggered any segvs. That error popup that dbus is not present actually comes from the notification module. But all of the above are with a new config. And I think the segv's I saw earlier may have been because 1. I have an old config in the main account. However, it seems unlikely that a config may trigger a segv. btw these strange backtraces can occur when some of e's structs changed and one forgot to recompile modules using them.. happend to me sometimes with modules that one loaded once to just try them and then forgot about them. 2. I had used some opengl game a week ago on that login (I tend to remain logged in for weeks at a time). Whereas, this time, I had restarted the X server (sort of forced to restart for some other reason) and done all these tests on the restarted X server. Which means the bug may be in the nvidia drivers themselves. In essence, no bug in e. I got side tracked onto animated wallpapers and how they work. I modded the circuit.edj one (just moved stuff to the left) so my gkrellm didn't interfere with the display. Neat. I saw that edje can incorporate lua, which gives me the ability to open sockets and do interrupt driven things. ecomorph does not draw the background. it is a window created by e17. And there's the problem. I'd love to receive data from the real world (weather, ntp stats, gps position, latency stats, accelerometer, etc), and render them with opengl to the wallpaper. I'm thinking a field of grass that bends according to the direction and speed of the wind, or a statue in the sun where the lighting changes according to the orientation of the laptop. So, is there any way to do opengl rendering with edge? If so, can someone point me in the right direction? My internet searches haven't uncovered much... you can render edje with opengl though you are restricted to what is possible with evas/edje. you cannot use native opengl commands, doing the animation you describe will be pretty hard with evas I guess. Best way I can think of you could achieve an opengl bg atm is to use a compositing manager, create the opengl bg in a separate window, layer it below e's bg and make e's bg transparent. And I know this could be a distro specific problem... But I don't think so because: To quote from the Arch wiki: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Arch_Linux - Arch provides non-patched, vanilla software; packages are offered from - pure upstream sources, how the author originally intended it be - distributed. Patching only occurs in extremely rare cases, to prevent - severe breakage in the instance of version mismatches that may occur - within a rolling release model. However I am a multi-Linux/multi-boot kind of guy, who in each and every distro I install, heavily depends on their package management system to keep me out of dependency hel^Hck... ;-7 And e17 is definitely one package that I wouldn't even attempt to install by hand. But of all my currently installed distros, Arch is the one that seems most likely to install an unadulterated upstream package, rather than a distro specific {modified} version. Thus I don't think the fact that the only e17 on my laptop that this has happened to, is the one in Arch, automatically makes it a distro specific issue. It probably only means the Arch e17 is more accurately updated... At least that's mt best guess. I'm not really sure what was the e17 version number that I installed to Arch sometime since my mid March initial installation of Arch itself, but as of now the e17 help about lists it as Enlightenment 0.16.999.063. Prior to this recent pacman -Syu, e17's run prompt worked normally. Afterwards it's become fussy what the first character I input into it is. Yet I also use firefox {though I usually start that from inside alpine}. The other day I tried to start firefox from the run prompt. But as soon as I typed an f into the first character position of the command input field, I got a pop-up error telling me that Enlightenment SEGV'd That also advised me to compile everything with -g in CFLAGS So far, the the restore button succeeds in restarting e17 without closing any open applications... But of course firefox didn't start. I can start firefox from an xterm. And I tested that I can type of into the run prompt without an immediate SEGV But I can't type an f as the first character. I haven't tested the whole alphabet, BUT I did find I can't type a command starting with b or / as the first character either. Though just because I'm stubborn I can tell you that I can start firefox [via e17's run prompt] with: ~/../../usr/bin/firefox (go figure) I did say I've got a work around that works for me... Since I've also got XFCE installed as a back-up desktop, I've reassigned the keybinding I used to use to pull up e17's run prompt with, to /usr/bin/xfrun4. [e-users] Everything is empty! plugins moved to modules(for svn users only)
Hello, The plugins for the Everything module which were before loaded differently are now e-modules. If you have an existing config, you'll need to enable them with the Modules dialog. .. what about adding a ChangeLog dialog at least for the snapshot releases? Hi, the issue with not connecting to tracker was fixed recently but I guess it is not yet packaged. It should work for you either by starting tracker before enlightenment or after restarting e. [e-users] Thicker window resize zones?

Re: [e-users] Is E17 causing memory leak in X.org ?
hi, for me the xserver used up to 500MB after one day running. I found the trigger for X's leaking to be e's animated idle mouse pointer. try turn it off. maybe you could file a bug for xserver if it's the same issue. On Thu, Jun 11, 2009 at 12:03 PM, RocketIII Scientistrocketiii.scient...@gmail.com wrote: Hi Lately I've been seeing huge memory consumption by the X-server and I've started to suspect some unexpected feature in E17... I'm running E17 both at home and at work (and on my Freerunner :-) ). At work, with ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT card (RV630 [Radeon HD 2600XT]) with dual DVI-connected displays, using the AMD/ATI fglrx driver (latest). At home I have ATI Radeon HD3300 Integrated graphics on Asus M3A78-T mb using the opensource ATI driver. The symptom of memory consumption is identical to both configurations and shows up after 1-2 days of running. Restarting enlightenment does not release any memory in X-server, instead I need to logout of X to resolve that. Once X managed to own all memory, including virtmem (swap) so all I could do was to recycle the PC (push the on/off button thatis). [e-users] [E-devel] new module: systray
Hello, the systray module will need some special handling to work with itask-ng. It's already planned to make support for it, though it could take some time til I get to this.
