[e-users] E17 inadequate for graphic work
Hi As it's said there http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_name=50CB3434.4020901%40gmail.comforum_name=enlightenment-users now, it's impossible to disable dpms in e17. Here 's the problem for graphic work like creating, editing photos, etc.. : dpms turns off screen completely. When I turn on my (very expansive Eizo professionnal) lcd screen, it must heat. It takes about half hour a screen to get right and definitive colors like color temperature. After dpms turned off screen power , so, I have to wait half hour to get again right screen state... The only way is to disable blanking all the time, which is not very good for screen life That's why I say E17 is now inadequate for graphic work. If you need only web surfing or text, it's ok. Its' annoying for me because I use xset to disable dpms and set time blanking. When composite is unloaded, I can disable dpms with xset but blanking doesn't work.. The only solution is to load composite but I don't want composite... e17 rev 81052 debian wheezy system Thanks for any help. Greetings if you don't want compositing... you'll have to go find another wm soon enough. after e17 is out, compositing is going into e17's core and it will be compositing ONLY. e18 will be compositing only. baked in from the very core. when e17 sets up blanking, it's relying on its setup of screesaver/dpms values as it uses these for things like dimming on idle, as well as compositor effects. (when you set up a blank timeout of 1 min, dpms is set to start kicking in at 5/6/7 seconds later (dpms has 3 stages)). Thanks for your answer. I don't like so much some compositing effects (tiring for eyes !) but I like e17, therefore, I set none in composite settings. Another point: X cursor stays on the screen when blanking. Is there a way to avoid this ? e17 svn rev 81052 Greetings -- Maderios Art is meant to disturb. Science reassures. L'art est fait pour troubler. Greetings ok - so its not a technical issue. it's a person issue. well then... i'm not too worried. in this particular case you are not interested in saving power and imho that's sad because the world is in dire enough trouble with us humans consuming it left, right and center. I agree with you about world dire, that's why, for example, I heat my home, I cook, I heat my hot water with wood since 1977. Biomass / wood is neutral for global warming. I didnt wait Kyoto and Doha. :-) Otherwise the best energy is the energy that is not consumed = good heat insulation, if possible but very important, consumption of local products/food, etc... the screen is black. there is no content. the logical thing is to turn it off. it's just power drain at this point. I use an inverter which consumes continuously power. A PSU never stops consuming too. I think dpms may save screen life, perhaps, I'm not sure. The notices diverge on the question. Because I think turning video signal (lcd) off, then on, then off, etc, damages the CCFL backlight. That's why I prefer blanking screen. But may be I'm wrong... you don't save any power. your screen is always on - maybe outputting almost nothing, but it's on. it's consuming power. I know it but, anyway, my power inverter is consuming always same power until my power pc is off. i don't get it. the gui changed so you no longer can chnage it separately. this is the same thing gnome and so on do - they don't give you a choice. it's dpms always if it's enabled at all. i happen to agree that its overcomplicated and no point having 5 different sliders and checkboxes when 1 will do.
