Newer versions of their design use two relays, one on each leg, to guard
against a relay failure and to allow self-checks one leg at a time. They
sell a 30A set of 2 for $19.50.

Have not found any one who could replace or source the board. Have a inquiry

Perhaps I've missed an update, but after the Model 3 production was

The author misinterpreted Elon Musk's comments. It has been
clarified that Model 3 production will start in California for US

production, for China distribution.

Re: [EVDL] Why all EVgo's L3 EVSE eggs in one basket? ... (a paradigm shift of charging 200+mi EVs)

2015-12-11 Thread brucedp5 via EV

My thanks to Ed for helping me know what the Fremont L3 EVSE is like. I do
not get over to the East SF Bay much anymore, so I now have a better idea of
how the Lucky's L3 EVSE was implemented.

It is good to know that Ed feels the 4 L3 EVSE at the Fremont-CA Lucky
Supermarket was installed in a much better physical location of their
parking lot
http://api.plugshare.com/view/location/19438

And I can understand Ed's disappointment with the way the EVSE at WF Market
was installed. It is similar to a few WF EVSE I have seen on the SF
Peninsula (the other side of the SF Bay).

Primo (near an entrance) parking spots were chosen at a WF on the SF
Peninsula
http://api.plugshare.com/view/location/62954

while a few miles south, a Mt. View WF put theirs in their underground
parking level
http://api.plugshare.com/view/location/47129

more south, the Cupertino WF installed their EVSE off to the side,
http://api.plugshare.com/view/location/45217
half way down the parking lot (not as near an entrance, yet not the
farthest away either). I have not seen those EV spots at that WF store iced,
but have at the other WF stores where the EVSE was installed near a store
entrance.

While people have their plugshare site up, look that the other highway
corridor 280, and notice how little EVSE their is near it, and how many are
just off highway 101 (which runs near parallel north & south).

When I saw how much L3 was in Fremont, and how little it is being used
(showing on plugshare), I felt the 4 L3 EVSE at the Fremont Lucky's was over
kill. When it would have been wiser, to install 2 L3 EVSE at that Lucky's
store (to compete with WF), and to also install just the conduit for future
L3 growth (Lucky's could later install more L3 when it is actually needed).

Then Lucky's corporate could use that money spent on those 2 unneeded L3
EVSE for L3 installations at other Lucky stores (i.e.: just off Highway 280
where it is desperately wanted and needed)
https://google.com/maps/place/348+Woodside+Rd+94061

I thank those that gave their views on L2 EVSE. If they are right there will
be a slow down on L2 EVSE installations, and hopefully any new L2 EVSE
installed will be for long-term parking locations (airports, train/bus
stations, work, etc.).

I feel there is still going to be a need for L2 though it will be less.
Those plugins only able to charge at L2/1 (inexpensive EVs like the i-Miev,
plug-in-hybrids, e-motorcycles, etc.) will not pay for the L3 ability, so as
to keep their purchase price down (so the cheap EVs will still need L2).

BTW, on that note, I have long-mentioned (harped) that Ford really needs to
offer a L3 charging ability on their one and only EV, the
Focus Electric. Ford sez soon they will, see

3.5 hours with a 240-volt [L2-6kW] outlet. To get to 80% charge takes [on
L2-6kW] about 2.5 hours ...

IMO, it is nice that Ford is talking-up upgrades/improvements, but it is
too-little, too-late to have any impact other up-to-date EVs sales.
Especially when Ford dealers do not want to sell plugins. Who wants to bet
Ford goes with the less available combo rather than the more established
CHAdeMO L3 EVSE coupler?

Another point, if L2-6kW in the U.S. is used less, perhaps we might see EVSE
sites that only have L3 CHAdeMO change-out their L2 to have
Coulomb/Chargepoint's less expensive 24kW Express 100 L3 EVSE.

The difference in wiring is adding another 8 gauge wire (pulled through the
conduit) so as to prove 3-phase 32A off a 3-phase 40A circuit (instead of
2-phase 32A feeding the L2, now 3-phase 32A feeds the ChargePoint's Express
100 L3). See

http://www.greencarreports.com/news/1098855_chargepoint-launches-small-dc-quick-charging-station-for-electric-cars

I am assuming the ChargePoint Express 100 L3 will allow L2-6kW (j1772)
charging off its combo coupler. If so, the Express 100 would be a less
expensive upgrade from a L2-6kW only, to a L3-24kW combo & L2-6kW j1772. The
yanked/removed L2 EVSE could then be sold on ebay, where companies wanting

A group of German and French students who call themselves 'the Pilgreens'
arrived today in Paris at the Climate Conference, after a 20.000 km journey
in an electric Tuk Tuk. To celebrate their arrival they organized an
electric vehicle tour through Paris starting from Place de Breteil at 09:00.
They will be accompanied by a large number of electric vehicles from various
brands as well as a parade of ten electric Tuk Tuks.

Diemen, Netherlands - A group of German and French students who call
themselves the Pilgreens arrived today in Paris at the Climate Conference,
after a 20.000 km journey in an electric Tuk Tuk. To celebrate their arrival
they organized a parade through Paris starting from Place de Breteil at
09:00. They will be accompanied by a large number of electric vehicles and a
parade of 10 electric Tuk Tuks.

It all started after the Pilgreens got acquainted with the noisy and
polluting Tuk Tuk in Bangkok. They started to think about what could
possibly ease our burden on the environment. Then they bumped into the team
of Tuk Tuk Factory team, a Dutch manufacturer of electric Tuks. A crazy
idea was born. The green students decided to take the challenge of driving
almost 20.000 kilometers from Bangkok to Toulouse, their home city. They
want to show the world that electric power is the way to go.

Earlier this year in Bangkok, the Pilgreens embarked on an epic journey
halfway across the globe. Their adventurous route took them through
Eurasia's rain forests, deserts and 3800 meter-high mountain passes. Despite
the inhospitable terrain the electric Tuk Tuk encountered, no significant
technical problems occurred. Karen Koulakian from the Pilgreens says "We are
really happy to see the quality and fun-aspect of the eTuk proven by this
fantastic undertaking!

"We are happy to support the Pilgreens in this great initiative, and we are
proud that our eTuk is holding up so well in these extremely harsh
conditions. We actually don't make our vehicles for rally purposes!” says
Roland Vos, Director of Tuk Tuk Factory. Apart from a bigger lithium
battery pack and a solar panel, the eTuk Limo is a standard production
vehicle. Where normal gasoline powered Tuk Tuks stay within the city
perimeters, this electric eTuk Limo has a huge range of 350 kilometers.

After the parade in Paris, the Pilgreens will continue their journey to
their home town Toulouse.

Undoubtable assets aside, we found the Tesla Model S as being an
under-engineered machine with a sub-par interior. After receiving tons of
less-than-flattering comments on our Model S review, we've finally come
across a Tesla owner who has taken matters into his own hands, commissioning
a complete overhaul for the cabin.

At first, a Russian guy installing BMW parts inside his Model S might lead
to stereotypical conclusions, but the way in which this man has addressed
the ergonomics and quality issues of his Tesla is simply brilliant.

To answer a potential trolling question, we'll mention the twin-iPad
infotainment system, as well as the digital instrument cluster, has been
left in place. However, pretty much every other major part of the interior
has been redone.

Starting from the upper side of the custom cabin work, the changes targeted
the bar of the panoramic sunroof, which has quality and soundproofing
drawbacks, as well as those annoying sun visors, whose absent lighting and
ridiculously-sized mirrors can easily frustrate one.

The front seats, as well as the rear bench, come from a BMW 7-Series, while
the same can be said about the center console and the front armrest.
Actually, in the standard Model S, you can't talk about a "front" armrest,
since there's nothing to hold your forearms in the back. Well, thanks to the
7er accommodation, rear passengers now have their own armrest. Welcome to
2015.

The man removed the front doors cards, only to discover empty spaces in the
areas where storage compartment could've been installed. Of course, this has
now changed.

And thanks to that center console swap mentioned above, you'll have to say
goodbye to your flying items. From now on, you'll be able to find your
mobile phone in the exact position you placed it upon entering the vehicle.

In terms of materials, this Tesla now packs the right kind of leather,
Alcantara and Piano Black trim for the dash.

Judging by the number of USB ports installed inside this Model S, as well as
by the 110W charger in the rear console, this guy knows his way around
gadgets.

Not since Nick Murray explained why his 911 was a lemon have we seen this
kind of uber-reasonable attitude from the owner of a premium machine.
However, while Nick lost us when he ditched his 911 for an M4, we like this
man's balanced attitude.

For one thing, the final part of his 23-minute clip sees him talking about
the bits and pieces that could still be improved on his Tesla. Spoiler
alert: we are a bit surprised to see he still hasn't changed the standard
audio system, which is far from delivering the aural pleasures that should
come with a 100-grand car.

And while Tesla may have left certain bits out due to the incompatibility
with the EV nature of the car, it's all discussed in the video.

In case you're considering a similar treatment for your Tesla, the man
mentions the cost of the customization job as rising to 15-20 percent of the
Tesla's original price. From mental sanity to the health of your back, we
reckon it's all worth the money.

For those of you who want to dig even deeper into this Model S matter, the
second video below offers a review of the customised Tesla, coming from the
Moscow Tesla Club. And no, they're not afraid to expose the drawbacks of the
mods.

[EVDL] EVLN: faradayfuture.com jobs @N.Las_Vegas-NV $1B U.S. EV plant

2015-12-11 Thread brucedp5 via EV

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-12-10/faraday-future-picks-las-vegas-suburb-for-1-billion-auto-plant
Faraday Picks Las Vegas Suburb for $1 Billion Auto Plant
December 9, 2015 Dana Hull,James Nash

-Electric-vehicle startup is backed by Chinese billionaire
-Nevada scores another win in effort to diversify its economy

Faraday Future, the electric-vehicle startup backed by Chinese billionaire
Jia Yueting, has chosen Nevada for the company’s planned $1 billion U.S.
factory.

"We hope to bring our $1 billion investment to North Las Vegas and our open
our first manufacturing facility there, creating 4,500 jobs," Jia said in a
letter to Nevada’s legislature.

Though automakers have struggled to find profits with electric models,
Faraday has said it aims to make money not just on the vehicles but on
subscriptions for applications and infotainment piped into the car. The
company plans to introduce its first car in 2017, after unveiling a concept
next month at the CES electronics show in Las Vegas. Yueting is founder and
chairman of Leshi Television, a Chinese online video site.

The plant is another coup for Nevada, which is eager to diversify its
tourism-dependent economy and expand in manufacturing. Tesla Motors Inc. is
building the world’s largest lithium-ion battery factory east of Reno and
has said it expects to spend $10 billion over 10 years.

Faraday spokeswoman Stacy Morris said last month that the company also was
considering sites in California, Georgia and Louisiana.

Separately, Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval will hold a press conference
Thursday morning in Las Vegas with Steve Hill, director of the state’s
Office of Economic Development. Sandoval will probably have to convene a
special session of the legislature to approve any tax incentives.

Chief Executive

Faraday hasn’t revealed the name of its chief executive officer or
identified its battery supplier. The company is the latest Chinese-backed
startup to begin work on electric cars in the U.S. Along with Karma
Automotive LLC and Atieva, Faraday has opened operations in the U.S. to take
advantage of the country’s engineering and design knowledge, even as
American consumers increasingly buy sport utility vehicles and pickups
thanks to cheap gasoline.

The company, which has said it expects to have 500 workers by the end of
this year, has hired about 60 former Tesla employees, according to their
profiles on LinkedIn. Nick Sampson, senior vice president of R and
engineering, and Dag Reckhorn, vice president of global manufacturing, both
worked at Tesla. Faraday’s lead designer is Richard Kim, a veteran of BMW.

In 2014, Sandoval convened a special session to approve tax incentives worth
$1.25 billion for Tesla’s Reno factory. That legislation didn’t name Tesla
specifically but applied only to companies that invest at least $3.5 billion
in the state over 10 years. Faraday Future’s $1 billion factory wouldn’t
qualify.

Turnaround

The factory would cement a turnaround for North Las Vegas, which was one of
the country’s fastest-growing cities in the 2000s before the housing-market
collapse nearly pushed it into insolvency. Its city council declared a
fiscal emergency in 2012 and state officials considered putting the city
into receivership.

North Las Vegas has been courting Faraday for its Apex Industrial Park,
where medical marijuana growers have helped transform 2,000 acres of vacant
desert into a site with water and power lines suitable for development.
Faraday would be the first industrial user on the site.

One marijuana grower currently operates on the site while 15 others are in
various stages of permitting.

the printing. The terraced look is not good. I didn't get any of the specs.
If that car weighed 500 pounds that's the promise of carbon fiber. It could be
more finished. Lawrence Rhodes
