The Tesla Model S P100D seems to be pretty darn quick on the half-mile too.
The Tesla Model S P100D is pretty much a legend on the quarter mile,
dominating powerhouse ICE cars that are far beyond its class and price point
on a consistent basis. Recently, however, a Tesla Model S P100D with
Ludicrous+ just proved that the powerhouse EV could be just as formidable on
the half-mile as it is on the quarter mile, humiliating a modified Ferrari
FF in a series of drag and rolling races.
The Model S P100D’s feat was uploaded by YouTube’s resident no-nonsense drag
race enthusiast, DragTimes. Over the past few months, DragTimes has pitted
his Model S P100D against numerous powerhouse supercars, and most of the
time, the EV has come out on top. So far, the only stock car that has
completely decimated the Tesla was DragTimes’ own McLaren 720S, which
definitively dominated the EV on a series of drag and rolling races.
This time around, DragTimes’ owner, Brooks, found yet another supercar to
challenge the insanely quick EV — the Ferrari FF. The Ferrari FF is no joke,
as the grand tourer is equipped with a 6.5-liter V12 engine that makes 651
hp and 504 ft-lbs of torque. The FF also boasts a 7-speed dual-clutch
transmission and all-wheel drive.
The ICE supercar did not come to the race on its stock form, too, as the
owner of the Ferrari FF equipped his vehicle with an iPE exhaust and custom
ANKRY wheels. Overall, the Ferrari FF’s mods definitely made the ICE
powerhouse look and sound more aggressive, making the car’s V12 engine even
more daunting on the road ...
The Tesla Model S P100D is equipped with a lot of power too, however. Thanks
to its twin electric motors and Ludicrous+ mode, the Model S P100D is
capable of tapping into its 920 ft-lbs of torque instantly, which allows the
vehicle to gain instant acceleration. The Tesla, just like the Ferrari FF,
has all-wheel drive.
As could be seen in the race between the EV and the ICE supercar, however,
the Tesla Model S P100D completely outclassed the V12 supercar. Even when
the race passed the quarter-mile mark, the Tesla still kept going,
establishing and maintaining its lead against the Ferrari FF. This is quite
interesting, especially since the Tesla Model S P100D is not as formidable
in the half-mile as it is on the quarter mile.
As it turned out, however, the Model S P100D was simply far too quick off
the line. While the Ferrari FF would most definitely catch up to the P100D
eventually due to the Tesla’s speed limiters, it seemed like it will take a
good amount of time before the ICE overtakes the powerhouse EV.

As we reported earlier today, Tesla is definitely ramping up Model 3
deliveries this week, but most of those vehicles are still in the hands of
Tesla and SpaceX employees and their relatives.
Only a few regular reservation holders are now taking delivery and it’s a
big deal for most of those early adopters, but even more so for a man with
stage 4 terminal cancer whose dying wish was apparently to get his own Model
3.
As the first relatively affordable and mass-produced electric vehicle, the
Model 3 is important for a lot of EV enthusiasts.
Important enough to be on your bucket list?
It is important enough for a TMC member going by ‘Graniteds’. He wrote on
the forum last month:
“Well, I’d love to see November deliveries! i have a terminal stage 4
cancer and have been told I may only 3-4 months to live. The last thing on
my bucket list is our Model 3 and I’d like to have a few days to experience
and enjoy it. I wonder if there is any flexibility in the que?”
With production being still limited, there’s not that much flexibility in
the queue. Even the earliest reservation holders have December to February
delivery windows, which would require him to defy his prognostic.
But another forum member, Bonnie Norman, reached out to the man to offer him
the possibility to at least try the Model 3 if he doesn’t make it to a
delivery.

After the test drive, Bonnie reached out to Tesla to see if there’s a chance
he could take delivery sooner. That was on the November 26, 5 days after
Tesla sent out the first batch of invitations to configure the Model 3 for
regular reservation holders.
Norman says that Tesla ended up sending him an invite the next day.
Today, he took delivery at Tesla’s Fremont [CA] delivery center and received
a VIP treatment from the automaker:

Services, as well as a private factory tour.
According to Bonnie, Tesla is definitely ramping up Model 3 deliveries.
Kudos to Bonnie Norman, Tesla, and everyone involved for pulling this off.
It’s a heart warming thing to see on a general human level, but also just
for the show of passion for an electric vehicle.

Have you ever thought the Tesla Model X didn’t have enough visual drama… or
perhaps the opposite, that it’s a hideous pustule on the face of the
automotive world?
Whichever way you lean, there’s now an antidote and it’s from an unlikely
source: German exotic car tuner Novitec.
The Californian-made EVs have been tweaked by the European tuner, which has
switched from Lamborghinis and Ferraris to the latest car pinups, the Tesla
Model X SUV and its Model S sedan sibling.
Both cars features subtle bodywork extras that are claimed improved
aerodynamics, comprising a front lip spoiler, side skirts and a rear
diffusers all made from carbon-fibre. There’s also a two rear spoilers to
choose from on the Model X.
Lump in the lower ride height and some very cool 22-inch Vossens alloy
wheels and the Model X begins to develop a touch of visual appeal.
The Tesla Model S gets 21-inch alloy-wheels instead of the Model X’s larger
hoops.
The wheels have a neat trick too: The spokes are specially angled to channel
air onto the brake discs, allegedly cooling the anchors. “Each individual
wheel is manufactured for a specific corner of the car,” says Novitec.
The stoppers are big too, 380mm brake rotors at the front with six-piston
calipers, 360mm rears with four-piston calipers, which should decelerate the
heavy EVs with more immediacy.
But before you ask “Is there now an ‘absurd’ launch mode” for the modified
American EVs, Novitec has only tweaked the cosmetics, ride height, wheel and
brakes. Modifying the computer brain of the Tesla is probably not a priority
because they’re faster to 100km/h than pretty much every other car you can
buy.
Novitec will also create bespoke interiors for customers who want to pour
more money into their ultra-fast Tesla EV, with unlimited colours, materials
and stitching available.
