On the last 24v lead-acid mower I had, I just used 2 small 12V chargers.
(Yeah, had to hang a wire/plug out the top of the mower for them.)

Tesla or (name your favorite company) may be a great investment (or not), but
it’s highly irresponsible to put 90% of your portfolio in any one company, or

[EVDL] Segway off balance; hangs it up

2020-06-23 Thread EVDL Administrator via EV
Segway, which boldly claimed its two-wheeled personal transporter would
revolutionize the way people get around, is ending production of its
namesake vehicle.

The Segway PT, popular with tourists and police officers but perhaps better
known for its high-profile crashes, will be retired on 15 July, the company
said in a statement.

*

Ten months after buying the company in 2009, British self-made millionaire
Jim Heselden died after the Segway he was riding careened off a 30ft cliff
not far from his country estate north of London. He was 62 years old.

Re: [EVDL] OT: My E- mower power supply died, help?

2020-06-23 Thread Michael Ross via EV
No problem Mark. I may go for a new mower. I'm not interested in the power
assist particularly, but getting away from PbSO4 would be nice. I have to
buy about $100 of batteries every 3 or 4 years. If I can't get a good
charger/BMS for my lead acid cells,at a low cost, then a new mower is
likely.

Having 10 mowers ... sounds like bad luck. The mulch bag is falling off the
current mower,so it has been around for a long long time. I can't
remember when I got it. 6 or more years ago and it was used.

I have been watching videos from Stephen Mark Ryan. He is a millionaire that is

I think he is right on the money in thinking Tesla stock will be worth 10x or

caught up in day to day news of which Tesla crash there was or the pandemic or

Re: [EVDL] 20s A123 battery pack for ebike

2020-06-23 Thread EVDL Administrator via EV
>From my admittedly limited experience, most electronic devices you buy from
Chinese sellers are cheap and poorly documented. If you get instructions,
they'll usually be in "Chinglish" and confusing at best.

IMO, those gadgets are iffy enough for people who know what they're doing.
I'm an electronics hacker, not an engineer. I don't have the background to
work safely with undocumented alien electronics.

You can often get the same junk on Ebay and Amazon from US sellers who've
written up better documentation. (Or maybe they haven't. Read the
reviews.) Some of them even test them to weed out the QC failures. (Often
with directly imported Chinese stuff, YOU are the QC.)

You pay more for the documented items, but maybe not more than you'd pay if
you had to order one or five replacements after letting the smoke out.

As for me, I don't mess with assembling lithium batteries. I don't trust
myself with something that can burn my house down if I get it wrong.
Instead, I buy my lithium batteries (what few I use) as complete configured
units already assembled with BMS, from people and manufacturers who I'm
prettty sure know what they're doing. I try to maximize my chance at
success by reading the online reviews and comments in places like Endless
Sphere.

That's what led me to Ping Battery several years ago. They cost a lot more
than doing it myself, or even the anonymous duct tape batteries on Ebay, but
when they arrived I plugged in the BMSes (following the clear instructions),
charged them, and put them to work. The batteries have held up well, though
the chargers haven't.

As always, YMMV. Good luck. Don't charge it in the house or garage.

Lyft promises to go all-electric by 2030, but it won't pay drivers to make
the switch to electric cars
... Lyft does, however, hope to "help drivers access incentive funds"
provided by someone else, although the company is not specific about who it
expects to pony up. Less than a decade from now, when you order a ride from
Lyft, you'll almost certainly get picked up in an electric car – or some
similarly zero-emissions vehicle ...

I may be remembering wrong, but it seems to me that I've seem some more or
less usable (limited range) Nissan Leaves offered for around this price.

The Think City was a pretty good EV, especially for its time - it was
developed in the late 1990s and early 2000s - but the poor little guy is an
orphan. I can't imagine who's going to pay much that for one, but good luck
to the seller.

I'm parting with my red 2011 Think City. I'm including a Whispbar roof rack
with two bike mounts, two EVSEs, and just about every spare window or body
panel you might need. I'm in San Francisco and asking $4,995. Thanks for
helping find her a new home! https://sfbay.craigslist.org/

Re: [EVDL] Car-size fire-blanket smothers EV li-ion fire reignitions

Ethylene carbonate is a common li-ion cell electrolyte. Wikipedia
explains that there are several organic solvents that are commonly used:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium-ion_battery#Electrolytes

None of the li-ion cells have water-based electrolyte. This is because
the cell cannot have water in it anywhere, or air, because that would
combine with the active lithium compounds and render them somewhat inert.
