A friend of mine is bringing an older S-10 conversion back to life, and it
was setup with a clutch-less motor install. He would prefer to have a
clutch. Is anyone still making adapters? I have been out of the conversion
discussion so long I don't know where to send him.

A good friend has a Ryobi electric riding mower and his wife has been using it
for over 3 years. Battery capacity is noticeably less than when new (but she
mows until the machine slows down considerably). They don't like the "cruise
control" on their hilly yard as there is no regenerative braking so it speeds
up going downhill. The ride is very rough on their rough yard, too, and he
found features like the charging for I-phone to be frivolous. But he seems
fairly happy with the machine otherwise, especially since his wife likes to use
it.Personally, I like my E-15 GE tractor. I replaced the controls with newer
solid state parts but still spend a lot of time on maintenance and repairs,
mostly mower motor bearings, leaky tires, and other things that aren't
surprising on a machine approaching 50 years old. I can mow a couple of acres
of rough lawn and orchard on my 5 year old golf cart batteries, and tow pretty
good sized loads on trailers when I need to.

Re: [EVDL] electric riding mowers?

2021-08-15 Thread Pestka Dennis via EV
Bob;

I purchased the 100Ahr Ryobi about a year ago, and I love it. It does have lead
acid batteries as you stated, but they are AGM with no maintenance. Your 1/10
acre and hills will be a piece of cake for it. I have about 3 acres to cut and
I use it along with my wife on a zero turn. I can cut an hour with some hills
and flat area's, and it doesn't even use half of the range. One of the main
reasons I purchase it was for the bagging attachment. It is very simple to take
off and on, and works really well. A have a lot of trees and it get a real
workout in the fall picking up leaves. Tractor comes with 38" mower, charger,
headlights, cruise control, and even a USB plug for your cell phone. It has a
very tight turning radius, and an easy height adjuster for the mower deck. I
purchased mine through Home Depot, and they delivered it right to my house.

OK, I'm ready for an electric riding lawn mower. My grass area is very
small, probably under a Tenth acre or less, but mostly I need it for getting
around on my yard which has a variation in elevation of 30' and sll kinds
of terrain obstacles (and basically I can no longer walk more than a few
feet without needing to sit.

I see Ryobi and cub cadet both have models thare are leadacid. 48 and
56 volt models.. but I thought we would be in a time of lighter weight
lithium. Though I admit, for my lazy maintenance record, I'd be more
comfortable with lead acid probably.?

Our container packed with the Green Envy and its support equipment left

No idea on the Thundersky. The large Telecomm batteries we use at work are 110

the feedback system on the EV Album website stopped working. I tried to get it
going again at the time but made no headway. I have now retired and should
have more time to devote to it. The real question is in a world of mass
produced electric cars, how valuable is the Album anymore? Should only
conversions be included or only old production EVs, or should the whole thing
just go away? The Album has been up something like 20 years and that is an
eternity on the internet. Does it still have a valid purpose?

Subject: [EVDL] EV Pickup Bed Lift Hinge

It has been al long time since I have tried to send an post to the list and
I have not been too successful in the past.
Maybe that will change with this one.

I am in need of some information to complete my S-10 EV conversion. I would
like to place my lithium batteries under
the bed, between the frame rails and need to make a hinge setup to be able
to lift the bed. Somewhere in the past on
the EVDL, I remember reading about someone making a hinge setup that would
allow the bed to lift back and up
over the heavy duty rear bumper. It has to lift up or it will catch on the
rear bumper.

It think it was kind of like an "S" shape that bolted to the chassis on one
end and to the bed on the other end if I remember
correctly. I might have the shape wrong, but if you know what I am trying
to describe, could you let me know and maybe
send a picture or a drawing of it. I was going to use approximately 1/8 "
or 1/4 " steel plate to make the hinge.

If it would be easier, I can provide my mailing address to send a pattern
of the hinge shape I am not going to send it in
this e-mail.

Any help would be appreciated. This project has been a long time in coming,
but I am making progress. There have
been parts along the way that needed to be completed or repaired.

Well, thanks to anyone who know of what I am talking about and can help me.

[EVDL] GE Interpole Motor

2018-03-27 Thread Pestka Dennis via EV

I'm getting close to running a new motor in the 72 Vega.
It's a 11" GE BT2300 Interpole Motor. Rated for 240V, 9000 rpm.
As far as what I've found on these, the interpole windings are suppose to
prevent the armature and brushes from arcing due to build up of magnetic
forces. They also allow the armature to draw heavier currents, and carry larger
shaft loads. The interpoles are suppose to do electrically, what advancing the
brush angle mechanically, only better.

Anyone have any additional info or opinions on this motor.

Waiting for modifications of my drive shaft, and should have it on the road in
a few weeks.
Can't wait to see how this motor performs.

Thanks;
Dennis

Re: [EVDL] On the Road Again

2017-09-12 Thread Pestka Dennis via EV
Damon;

Glad to hear another old Datsun truck is on the road.

I'm having a ball driving mine since the Lithium conversion.

Yesterday was my birthday and for my birthday present this year I decided to
complete my lithium conversion on my 1970 Datsun Truck http://evalbum.com/1524
and start driving it again. I finished up a couple of days ahead of schedule.
The truck has been sitting waiting for new batteries for the last 3 or 4 years
now. I have not been EVless in the mean time as I have been riding my
motorcycle about 1000 miles a year during the summer, but it is great to get my
truck back to keep me dry during the rainy NW winters. I picked up 4 Chevy
Volt (48 volt) modules which are now my new traction pack and included a new
DC/DC in the upgrade. I also took care of some brake and clutch issues that
cropped up during the downtime. For charging I special ordered some 6 amp
Constant Current chargers set to cutoff at 49.8 volts from China, one for each
module. I still have my 50 amp Anderson connectors in place which I can use
with any appropriate 96 volt charger as well.

Seating Capacity: 3: Curb Weight: 2,550 Pounds (1,159 Kilograms) Additional
Features: I originally built this with an Alltrax 7245 72 volt 450 amp
controller.

I was so happy when I plugged in the new pack for the first time and the Zilla
woke up and spun the motor just fine. Also, my cooling fan for the motor and
water pump for the Zilla cooling both kicked in and ran as desired once the
motor warmed up. I was able to drive the truck to work and show it off for the
first time Friday, which was fun. I started a new job last November for a
company that does control systems for paper mills, so I am surrounded by
engineers who really enjoyed the show and tell.

I considered getting rid of the truck a couple of years ago and just buying a
used Leaf, but in the end, I decided I will always like my truck more than I
ever would a Leaf. It took a couple of years of patience until I felt it was
the right time to tackle this project again, but I am very happy with the
results :)

I do not plan on ever doing another conversion project however. My truck and
motorcycle may get upgrades and continue to live on, but any future EVs will be
factory made. It's great to finally have that option.
