Re: [EVDL] EVnewswire status: heart, again
Hi Bruce, Sorry to hear you are having those problems again. Get yourself to the hospital so they can fix things for you and don't worry about sending posts to us. The info will still be there when you feel well again. You have probably had too much stress lately with the move and the car issues, etc. Recover quickly. We will watch for you to be back to normal soon. Gail On 2/25/2018 11:30 PM, brucedp5 via EV wrote: afib heart problems, again ... Bruce,Sorry to hear you are dealing with this again. I am sure you would be surprised to know how many positive thoughts and prayers are being sent your way by people you probably couldn't pick out of a police lineup but whose lives you have touched in some way on your journey. [EVDL] EVLN: Nitty Gritty Tesla-3 Details Revealed (v)
https://cleantechnica.com/2018/02/19/nitty-gritty-model-3-details-revealed-new-video/ Nitty Gritty Model 3 Details Revealed In New Video February 19th, 2018 Steve Hanley [videos https://youtu.be/dxPDT843nOw Tesla Model 3 Stripped - Part 1 - Frunk Exploration https://youtu.be/RGzwnPgow8U Tesla Model 3 Stripped - Part 2 - The Dark Side ] A new video by YouTuber Ingineerix offers a perspective on the Tesla Model 3 few will ever see — the view from underneath. Entitled “Model 3 — The Dark Side,” the video shows the viewer many of the mechanical components of the car after the underside fairings and shields have been removed. First up, the front of the car is revealed. Since this is a rear wheel drive car (all early Model 3s are RWD only) there is no front drive motor obstructing the view of the camera. The viewer can clearly see the air conditioning compressor encased in its separate housing along with the radiator for the battery pack cooling system. The fan for the cooling system is an engineering tour de force with blades carefully sculpted to provide maximum air flow with minimum noise. Tiny weights can be seen on individual fan blades to keep the entire assembly in perfect balance. Mounting brackets for the front motor are included in all cars, as well as openings in the front hubs for drive shafts. Curiously, the front struts are mounted directly in the path of those drive shafts, so dual motor versions of the car will need to use an entirely different front strut assembly. Ingineerix notes the top link of the front suspension is made from fiber reinforced plastic — a first in his experience. Details of the electrically-activated power steering and brake booster systems are clearly visible in the video as well as the dual piston front brake calipers. Channels in the front frame are included to accommodate the power cables that will be needed when a front motor is mounted. Moving to the rear of the car, Ingineerix films the details of the rear suspension, The rear motor has an external oil filter and an electric pump, presumably to circulate lubricant throughout the motor and gearbox assembly. One comment on the Tesla forum suggests filter change intervals may be on the order of once every million miles! One detail Ingineerix noticed is that the parking brake actuator operates directly on the rear brake caliper rather than using a separate small caliper as many manufacturers do. It’s all part of Tesla’s commitment to reducing the complexity of automobiles whenever possible. If you enjoyed this video, be sure to check out Ingineerix’s other Model 3 video that explores the components of the car that live beneath the lining of the frunk. It’s interesting information that the average owner will never see. If there is ever a Part 3 in this series of videos, we will be sure to let you know. Re: [EVDL] Clutch Actuator
Hi John, For reference I'm using these pictured from ebay: 1992 automatic transmission brake pedal assembly: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/U8oAAOSwqaJaYWUY/s-l1600.jpg 1992 manual transmission combined brake clutch pedal assembly: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/o14AAOSw8-FaVSQR/s-l1600.jpg Yes. It does appear that the pedal assemblies for automatic and manual transmissions are quite different and it would be very difficult to add a clutch pedal to the brake assembly for the automatic. What I am suggesting is replacing the (single pedal) brake pedal assembly with the (two pedal) combined clutch brake pedal assembly from a manual transmission F-150. It appears that the single pedal assembly is bolted to the firewall/vacuum booster/master cylinder with 4 bolts through the firewall plus 2 bolts to a cross member above the assembly (probably the dash support). Removing these 6 bolts and the linkage to the brake master cylinder would allow the removal of this assembly. It appears that 5 of the 6 bolt holes can be reused to attach the combined two pedal assembly. If the cross member does not a have hole properly aligned for the attachment of the dual pedal assembly a new hole would need to be drilled. Reconnect brake master cylinder the linkage and you would now have the brake setup as original but with a clutch pedal flopping on the outboard side of the brake pedal. Two additional holes may need to be drilled for attaching the clutch master cylinder to the firewall and a hole cut for the linkage to the clutch master cylinder. Then attach the clutch master cylinder to the firewall and the clutch pedal. Install the slave cylinder on the transmission/bell housing. Install the hydraulic tubing between master cylinder and the slave cylinder. That being said, this does not answer your original question but is rather a follow on to another another suggestion. To address though not actually answer your original question: I have been looking for linear actuators to replace the shift and selector cables. he cables take up too much space in the engine compartment of my Fiero - space where would rather put batteries. So I have been looking to this a little. In general what I've found is that it is difficult to fine speed force and travel that would meet my requirements. I can have to of the three, almost any two but not all three. But this site might be worth a look for your problem. https://www.progressiveautomations.com/linear-actuators/stroke/1-inch/force/150-lbs <https://www.progressiveautomations.com/linear-actuators/stroke/1-inch/force/150-lbs> Click on the shopping cart to configure what you want. I chose 1" - 150 lbs and the only speed option was 0.59 inches per second. which means it would take 1.7 seconds to move the full 1". This may be a little slower that what your looking for. There may be other configuration options that would work for you. Hope this helps Cliff On 02/25/2018 07:03 PM, John Lussmyer via EV wrote: On Sun Feb 25 13:15:12 PST 2018 ev@lists.evdl.org said: https://www.ebay.com/itm/87-91-Ford-Hydraulic-Clutch-Brake-Pedal-Assembly-F150-F250-F350-Bronco-Manual/323080675802?hash=item4b391be1da:g:ri8AAOSwuA1ah8XC=mtr Perhaps F-150s had a hydraulic clutch for some years. Re: [EVDL] Clutch Actuator
One consideration with a clutch is that you can easily overspeed the electric motor when downshifting if you miss a gear or aren’t paying attention. Relying on the synchros protects you somewhat in that case. Re: [EVDL] EV Digest, Vol 64, Issue 27
If you eliminate the flywheel and clutch entirely the syncros are more than adequate for up shifting and down shifting. There is very little rotational mass in the armature. This worked excellent in my 5 speed Pontiac Fiero, let off the accelerator and shift.
