Re: [Evangelism] Upcoming Plone events

2011-01-04 Thread Calvin Hendryx-Parker
These are the ones that the marketing committee has identified as
interesting for Plone to be represented at this year. Obviously, we
probably won't hit all of them and if anyone has any other suggestions
please respond so I can add them to our radar. We should at least list
the ones that we are sponsoring people to attend.

SXSW Interactive
PyCon
NTEN - Nonprofit Technology Conference
Web 2.0 Expo
Online Information 2011 (was IMS)
Plone Symposium East
European Plone Symposium 2011
FISL 2011
OSCON
OSSPAC
Plone Conference 2011
KIWI PyCon
Japanese event TBD
Flourish! 2011
Open Source Business Conference (OSBC - by InfoWorld)
Open Source Bridge

First of all, thanks to everyone who answered the form.
According to these responses, we have a new date.

The World Plone Day 2011 will be held on 27/04/2011

With 78% of acceptance, it was the preferred date.
Second one was April 20th 2011 with 72% of acceptance.
But April 20th and April 13th were selected as a Not Ok date for 16,6%.

My next task is compile the suggestions and tips and share with you.

Thanks again and let´s start to make a great WPD.

The thing is, Plone *is* easy to install, and you get a very
sophisticated setup even when using the base installers. It's just a
bit challenging to develop for at the moment, something that we're
working hard on fixing.

I agree, Plone is very easy to install. For those that doubt it I put
together a posting tonight that outlines an advanced install (and is
cross platform friendly):

http://immersive-training.net/event-updates/blog/2009/4/13/when-the-plone-installer-isn-t-enough

I hope this can help people realize that even if they need more power
than what the OOTB installer gives them, it doesn't have to complicate
things. Tools like ZopeSkel make sure that you are always using best
practices and keeps the experience the same no matter what platform
you are working with. I even tested this on windows to be sure it
really worked like it does on my Mac OS X box.

Calvin

Re: [Evangelism] Should we be doing things like this?

2008-12-08 Thread Calvin Hendryx-Parker

Hi Karl,

It was pretty generic since it probably was meant to introduce the
topic of Drupal to new people. The WebEx webcast worked pretty well
except for the audio was very faint. I ended up calling in to the
conference bridge so I could hear anything. The back channel chat
that was on the page was nice since there were some fairly
knowledgeable folks in there, most likely from Lullabot, answering
many of the questions.

The O'Reilly moderator did a good job of picking up on questions in
the channel as they went by and they spent almost 45 minutes on
questions alone. I think that a presentation of this type that
showed off Plone in the same manner would blow Drupal out of the water
since we seam head and shoulders above them when it comes to more
enterprise features.

Cheers,
Cal
