OK, I've looked into this, and I suspect that you somehow got an aspell
package that was intended for a distribution other than Red Hat 7.1.
What's in your /etc/redhat-release file? Did this aspell package get
installed with rpm -Uvh --nodeps? The solution may be to remove aspell*
and reinstall the aspell packages built for Red Hat 7.1.

It did say something like Red Hat Linux release 7.1 (forgot the

(see below)

No.

The solution may be to remove aspell*

Thanks for replying. I did all the installs and upgrades with redcarpet.
I did try to uninstall and reinstall with RC all the *spell* packages. I
got an off list reply from someone with the same setup who said they
also got the same aspell/library error but spell checking was working
for them. I did try a fresh test account and spell checking was also
broken. I copied libltdl.so.3 from a RH8.0 machine to my RH7.1 and that
fixed the aspell error, but still no spell checking in Evolution. It
seems my problem was unique in some way. All upgrades and installs since
the RH7.1 to Ximian desktop install have been with RC.

At this point, my problem is resolved in the sense that I've upgraded
(actually a fresh install) to RH8.0. I was waiting for something to give
me that last little push to upgrade. RH7.1 was getting a little close to
the edge of obsolescence (I needed the spell check for that!). I plan to
run the stock RH version until I get a feel for the system and then I'll
probably Ximianize again once RH8.0 desktop is supported or I miss RC or
the latest Evolution too much. So I'm back to Evolution 1.0.8, spell
checking is working, but I already miss the improvements in Evolution
1.2.

[Evolution] Spell checking broke after evolution 1.2 upgrade

2002-11-11 Thread John Weber
Hi,

I just did all the upgrades in the Ximian desktop channel for my RH7.1
system. Spell checking no longer works in evolution. If I go to
tools-settings-composer preferences, there are no languages listed in
the spell checer tab. I have

[jweber@ceora jweber]$ rpm -qa | grep spell
aspell-en-gb-0.33.7.1-ximian.2
aspell-0.33.7.1-ximian.2
aspell-devel-0.33.7.1-ximian.2
pspell-0.12.2-ximian.7
applix-bin-spell-base-5.00-1315
aspell-en-ca-0.33.7.1-ximian.2
gnome-spell-0.5-1.ximian.3

From the knowlege base, it says I should have aspell-en, but I don't see
it in the Ximian desktop channel. I just want american english, but I
tried adding the aspell-en-gb and aspell-en-ca to see if anything would
work.

I also get a mail component crash frequently when I try to change fonts
in evolution tools-settings-font preferences. The place where I used
to change fonts in gnomecc seems to have disappeared. After a number of
crashes, I did get the fonts changed OK.

Soory if anything is mispelled in this message

Thanks,
John

[Evolution] Spell checking

2002-10-14 Thread Alain Muls

Hello,

Spell checking keeps being difficult in choosing the language. I have UK
English, Dutch French ispell dictionaries installed, but the only one
I am able to select is the English dictionary . How to configure
evolution to use also the other dictionaries.

Shortkeys is set to emulate XEmacs key bindings, but for example the
Ctrl-S does not perform a search. It displays a sort of statusbar in
which one can type, while the first 2 letters are highlighted in the
text. Where can I find what shortcuts there are and what they intend to
do.

On my home system, whenever I type an addressee in the To: field, the
corresponding contact lists drop down. On my office PC, this does not
function. Is there something to configure to have that functioning?

Thanks,

I added the pspell_dev package : no change.

Then I got gnome spell package from the www.usr-local-bin.org site and now it works

Thank you very much - I am back in business!

I don't know if it was gnome-spell or the devel package or the combination which did the trick, but when I get the time, I'll investigate.

Hi Paul,

A couple of small possibilities for you. Did you get the evolution

1.0.8 rpm from www.usr-local-bin.org? The rpm from that site has been

particularly good about working with spell check.

Also there is a version of gnome-spell from that same site

gnome-spell-0.4.1-SuSE.jeo.1 that I am using on several SuSE computers

which may be different than the version that you are using.

Finally you can try adding the pspell-dev from the SuSE CD. One of my

installs refused to spell check in evolution until I got desperate and

added this file. No, I do not know why it works that way, but it did.

Close the compose message window, your changes will take effect next

[Evolution] Spell checking in Evolution using wrong language

2002-08-14 Thread Mark C

Hi,

I'm currently running evolution-1.0.8-1.ximian.1.i386.rpm on RH 7.3
I have noticed (ok, my spelling is that rubbish, that someone else
pointed it out) that all my spelling corrections are in American, when
they should be in English or British ( I reside in the united kingdom).

The environment variable $LANG = en_GB.UTF.8 and on individual mails the
properties are listed as 'en' for the spelling.
The OS was installed English/British (not sure what the installer asks
for, but its one of those two)

After some reading of man pages and web searching , I have found that
gnome-spell (which evo uses) uses aspell for it checking.

So as a test I ran aspell (manually from the command line) on some words
that I know have been spell checked as American and it corrects them
correctly and only offers British suggestions.

Is there a way that I can override evo at all?

Have a look in the HTML Editor Properties capplet of the control center.

The language is a locale string (mine is en_GB) - and depends on you
having an aspell-your lang package installed.

Praise be to you! I had been knocking my head against the wall for
WEEKS trying to get spell-checking working in Evo, all with NO success.
This recipe worked wonders. I now have all sorts of misspelled words
underlined in red in my emails!

I will also add that, using SuSE 7.2, I could NOT get the RC2 version ov
Evo to install this morning. It complained of all sorts of dependencies
not met (funny, everything it complained about was installed), so I used
this trick to install the latest version of Evo as well and it worked
like a charm.

On another note, Kudos to the Evo team, as all the Sync conduits now
work (even the address conduit, which NEVER worked before!).

I am now offically and (I hope) permanently weaned from Netscrap and
Mozilla

it will automatically fire up Suseconfig for you.

Now spell checking works in Evo (assuming that you have turned spell
checking on in Gnome control centre). Slick. Just need to find a way

I have had this set up for several days now and the older version of
pspell does not appear to cause any problems, except that Red Carpet

I have no idea what the problem is. Numerous people have had problems, but the only answer seems to be to check that the spell packages are installed. I do not why why this has to be so complicated.

[Evolution] spell-checking and languages

2001-09-21 Thread Thomas Mailund

g'day list.

It's great to finally have spell-checking working in evolution,
something I have been looking forward to for quite some time now, but
there is one little thing that bothers me a bit. The language selected
for spell-checking is a global property. If you only write mails in one
language I guess that's OK, but if you, as I do, write mails in a number
of different languages, it becomes a bit annoying having to change the
global properties ever so often. Since most of the mails I send are
written in English, I would like to use that as my default language, but
when I write a mail in, say, Danish, I'd like to be able to change the
language for this one mail, and otherwise keep English as the default
for other mails. I haven't found a way of doing this so far, so my first
question is, is there a way of changing the language on a per mail
basis? If not, my second question is, will there ever be?

There isn't currently. We've talked about having a language selection
in the composer that would affect a handful of things, including spell
checking. It doesn't look like it was in bugzilla, so I just added it as
bug 10577. But this is a post-1.0 thing.

[Evolution] spell checking in evolution?

2001-09-14 Thread mark

Ive managed to get the spell checking working in evo (and i need it with
my grammer), but I cannot find anyway to actually alter the mistakes to
the correct spelling as in abiword or allow you to add it to a database
of words to check thru (as in take it from a dictonary)

[Evolution] Spell Checking

2001-06-08 Thread Mark Logan

Howdy,

I was wondering if anyone has managed to get spell checking working on
Mandrake 8.0. I have the latest pspell, aspell and gnome_spell
installed, and if I look at the process list I can see the
gnome-spell-component starting up. However, no spell checking seems to
happen. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Mark
