Hi,
just to clarify, the 3.36.2 works properly for you, the messages from
one account are forwarded using that account and message from the other
account are forwarded using the other account, right?

I finally have got to this and tested it here and it seems to work
properly for manually invoked filter rule, which simply forwards the
selected message.
Thanks and bye,
Milan

It doesn't. If I forward the message manually, the vivaldi account is
used as FROM ACCOUNT, the filter is using the freenet account to
forward the message.

Hi,
Evolution is supposed to pick the right account for you, only if cannot
determine by some rules, it can pick the default account. If I
understand it correctly, then it still misbehaves for you, even with
the current stable sources. That's bad. I'm wondering whether the
message was set to a recipient address, which you've set on the other
account. I consider it unlikely.

You can use Edit->Preferences->Composer Preferences->Send Account, to
override what account should be used for which folder/recipient.
Eventually, in the folder Properties, to make it easier for per-folder
overrides.

> (I did not found a 'default setting' in account settings... or wait!
> Is it 'Vorgabe' (German)?

Do not know. You can try:

   $ LANG=C.utf-8 flatpak run org.gnome.Evolution

to run in the build-in locale.

Anyway, in Edit->Preferences->Mail Accounts, there are four buttons on
the right at the top. The fourth is the "Default" button. The default
account has a "Default" check mark in front of its Type in the list of
the accounts.

> There is a check mark allocated to 'auf diesem Rechner' (German),
> means local on this computer. What are the consequences to set this

It's the default account, thus when cannot pick any better, Evolution
use that one. That can be when composing new message, replying,
forwarding and such similar actions.

By the way, thanks for trying the latest version. I appreciate that.

Milan

Yes, I am running on Evolution 3.36.2 (flatpak gitb091e19) now with all
my accounts & settings. The forewarding works on a test case, I created

Hi,
as had been said several times on this list, the Flatpak version runs
in an isolated sandbox, it doesn't run on the host as the installed
version from a package provided by the distribution. The sandbox has
its pros and cons and you may decide whether it works well in your use
case. The path for the files is similar, but in the sandbox, not from
the host system.

You can create a backup of your setup in the host system and restore it
in the Flatpak version. These two can work side by side, they only
cannot be run at the same time and they do not share any data
(remember, it's in the sandbox). You do not do anything to your host
system Evolution by installing the Flatpak version, the most your
desktop environment may run the Flatpak version from the GUI (you can
see in Help->About, which of the two you are running), if installed.
You get better answers about the Flatpak technology on their site, my
knowledge of it is rather limited.

Hope it helps.

However, I am considering to change to the flatpak version. Does the
flatpak use the same folder for the settings as the version provided by
the Linux distribution (~/config/evolution) in order to use my settings

Hi,
I meant, when you press Forward or/and Reply in vivaldi's Inbox
(ideally on the exactly same message the forward-by-filter failed to
pick the right From account for), whether it'll preselect the same
account as the one used on forward-by-filter. I think it should.

I decided to stay on the distribution's version, because building from
source failed and the flatpak took too much space.

There is no indicator, which account is the default account (or I do

Even I do some filter actions to sort incoming messages in the vivaldi
inbox folder, it's never active for incoming freenet emails.

I hope that helps to understand/identify the issue.

Hi,
your version is very old (two years means a lot even for Evolution).
It's possible it had been fixed meanwhile, though I cannot find the
exact commit by a naive search in the NEWS files. I recall a similar
bug, but I do not know when, or whether at all, it had been fixed.
Testing on the current stable (it's 3.36.1 at the moment), might be a
good idea.

Nonetheless, I suppose the freenet account is the default account (as
can be seen in Edit->Preferences->Mail Accounts), while the vivaldi
account is not. Is the forwarded message received in a folder, which is
dedicated to the vivaldi account (being it IMAP, then in its IMAP
folder, possibly Inbox), or it's in a folder of another account (or On
This Computer)? These things play a role in the way of the send account
guess. If I'm not mistaken, you might get preselected the same From
account when replying "manually" to the message from the same folder
(aka the one before filtering it).

Dear Milan,

My actual version is 3.28.5-0ubuntu0.18.04.2.

I tried to get more information running evolution in debug mode:

For clarity I removed all entries in sending folder setting. It seems
to be that for forwarding a message by a filter rule, only one and the
same of my accounts is used to forward the message. It's from freenet
and the authentication is successful:

[SMTP] Connecting to server mx.freenet.de:587 from account
12...90
...
[SMTP] received: 235 Authentication succeeded

But as MAIL FROM adress the expected sender is used (which is different
from 'SEnding with server', Thus authentication failed:

[SMTP] sending: MAIL FROM:
[SMTP] received: 553 Incorrect authentication data.
[SMTP] sending: QUIT

As a result only forwarding messages by filter rule which origins from
the freenet account are successful.

Could you help me to fix that?

Ah, I see. No problem then. I default to reply to list with list
messages, unless asked otherwise.

Threading doesn't work on Subject (or, better said, it's only a
fallback, which can be turned off by a user), it works on certain
headers in the message (specifically In-Reply-To and References
headers), which are set/inherited when replying to the message. As you
did not have the message it could not set/inherit them properly.

Correct, this one is properly threaded.

Sorry for that, as I created my first request, I was not member of the
lists. Thus I did not get your response into my mailbox. Instead I read
on internet. I tried to force my second request into the right topic by
setting the subject to "[Evolution] Subject: forward email by filter

Right, it's tricky to do it on older distributions. Maybe pick a
distribution, which provides latest stable version? Not always doable,
I know. Another option is to ask the distribution maintainer(s) of the
package(s) (evolution-data-server in this case), to find the upstream
fix and backport it.

I'm afraid I cannot do much, as long as it works properly on latest
stable version (limited manpower, I'm sorry). Maybe verify what
accounts you've configured (Edit->Preferences->Mail Accounts) and if
there are any disabled, misconfigured (the same email address, but
different SMTP settings) or such. It can be that when you open the
message in a composer it corrects the email address to the enabled
account.

You can also run evolution as this:

   $ CAMEL_DEBUG=smtp evolution

to see what server is used and what FROM address is passed to it. I
hope your version shows it too.

Bye,
Milan
