I setup that particular user on my machine( my reminders work ) and her reminders will not popup on my machine, this makes me worry that it may be larger then a client issue. Ex2000 mailbox permission on new user?
When I create a new user in AD (w2k sp2 exch 2k sp2) and pull up the exchange advanced tab and look at the mailbox rights only self has rights (read permissions and full mb access). When the new user logs on the store cannot be opened. If I go back into AD and under exchange tasks select move mailbox and move it to our other server (same config) the mailbox rights are populated with the domain and enterprise admin as well as everyone and exchange services, exchange domain servers and the server the mailbox is on. I then can move the mailbox back to the server it should be on and it keeps these permissions and the user can log on. Any idea why the permissions are not being assigned when the mailbox is created? Exchange 5.5 Archiving
Hi all, We have an exchange 5.5 server here, which is servicing over 200 users. This system will soon be upgraded to Exchange 2000. However, I am currently in the process of planning the overall Win2k platform migration. What I would like to do is archive mailboxes on this exchange 5.5 system. The reason being, I got some mighty large mailboxes, which contain backlog of historical msgs. The backup system is grinding along right now backing up mailboxes as large as 1GB in some cases. I haven't done this before. I was wondering if you folks out there could point me the right direction. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks in advance. RE: NT Account Lockout using OWA for Exchange 5.5
When you login to OWA, you essentially log on to the domain you supplied and the logon occurs on the OWA server. The same domain policies apply, you do lock your password after unsuccessful attempts. Can the user account you tested with actually logon properly with the correct password? The situation is this: We have OWA up for our users under Exchange 5.5. Using IE, the OWA browser interface will kick you out after three failed attempts to provide a proper userid/password combination. When kicked out multiple times using the same userid, the id is not locked in the domain. A security policy states that failed login attempts in excess of x attempts in y minutes will lock the account, but through OWA this does not seem to be happening. The question is this, given enough time, will a cracker be able to bruteforce the login through OWA without locking out the NT account in the domain. Thanks for any help in this. It's a converted PC, so we're going to remove it from the site and shut it down. I have followed Q152959 for removing the first server in the site. I have also reviewed all the gotcha's! listed in Q189286. 1) The bridgehead server duties have been migrated over to another server. 2) The public folders have all been rehomed to another server. 3) There are no mailboxes on this server. 4) The distribution lists are all set to expand on a different server. 5) There are no replicas of the Free/Busy information on this server 6) There is no replica of the OAB on the server 7) There are no organizational forms on the server 8) Routing calculation has been moved to another server 9) There are no connectors of any kind on this server 10)When I look at the Instances tab of the Public store on this server, the only public folder left on this server is called Eventconfig_servername. Yet, when I go to the Age Limits tab, there is another folder listed there called Nntp Control Folder, which I can't find anywhere else. The exchange databases that exist on this server are as follows: \\servername\c$\exchsrvr\dsadata\dir.edb - 105 mb \\servername\c$\exchsrvr\dsadata\temp.edb - 1 mb \\servername\c$\exchsrvr\mdbdata\tmp.edb - 7 mb \\servername\e$\exchsrvr\mdbdata\pub.edb - 162 mb \\servername\e$\exchsrvr\mdbdata\priv.edb - 13 mb None of them have been modified since 02/26/02 Even with nothing on this server, I am still getting 5 to 10 people per day logging on to the Public Store. Is this normal? What are these people logging on to? A replica of the public folders? Should I?: 1) Stop all the Exchange services and leave it for a week 2) Restart the services 3) Remove the server from the site 4) Leave the server up for a day or two 5) Turn it off. I stopped all the services on this server for the weekend, about a month and a half ago, thinking that nobody would holler. When I did that, I had whole bunches of people complaining about how slow their Outlook clients were. As soon as I started everything back up, things were fine. What am I missing? Memory Usage
I'm having a memory issue on my Exchange server, I'm not entirely sure if it is related to exchange, but since that's the only application running (other than IIS for OWA), I thought I'd ask here. Our server has 256mb ram (low, but we're small). Running Exchange 5.5 Sp4 on NT4 Sp6. The server was rebooted this morning. We have approximately 25-30 connections, and store.exe is using up about 180mb ram. So far this is all normal. But task manager is showing a total of 350mb RAM in use, and nothing else on the machine is using up much ram (10mb for inetinfo, and it goes down from there). I tried re-starting the virus scanning (Scanmail) to see if it had hogged any additional memory, but no luck... now the total is steadily climbing, but no single application appears to be using it.. RE: Need advice about an exchange HD setup
Exchange transaction logs and Exchange information store database files should be on separate HD volumes. I would do 2x RAID1 volumes and put the page file on the 5th drive. The first RAID1 will hold the OS, Exchange executables and the Exchange transaction logs The second RAID1 will hold the Exchange IS database files. This is not an ideal configuration but will be a better performer than putting both the transaction logs and the database files on the same RAID5 volume. Ideally you need a machine with at least 7 drives. Then you could do RAID1 for OS, RAID1 for transaction logs, and RAID5 for database file. -Original Message- From: Robert Williams [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, April 25, 2002 4:31 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: Need advice about an exchange HD setup I am moving my 5.5 server to a new box soon. The boss has noticed that when creating an All-Day apointment, or a multi-day apointment, the apointment is displayed in a box as one contiguous apointment. Except when the apointment is less than 24 hours, even if it spans more than one physical day. In this case, the apointment displays on the calendar as a 2 separate apoinments. For instance, we use a public calendar that our users can post apointments to to represent signing out some shared equipment. With this behavior, if I sign out a digital camera from Wednesday 5:30pm until Thursday 8:30 am, it will display like 2 separate apointments in month view. A bit confusing for this application. Front-end server OWA problem
I'm trying to configure a front-end server for OWA-only access. Mailbox access is working fine, but when I go the the /public virtual directory, I get: HTTP 500 - Internal server error Internet Explorer After turning off friendly error messages in IE6, I see this error: The device is not connected. In what I'm sure is a related issue, when the Folder List is selected from the user's mailbox screen in OWA, a popup comes forward with: Internal server error. And the public folders never show up in the OWA folder list. These errors do not appear on the back-end server. There is, in fact, no public store on the machine (it was removed per MS's front-end setup whitepaper), and since there is not SMTP going on, the Information Store service is stopped (although starting it doesn't change things). At first I thought that Q316349 was my problem, but after looking around in our AD with the LDP tool, I'm fairly certain that we do not have the Lost AD entry that the Q article specifies. Other hits for this error in the KB mention time synchronization as an issue, but our clocks are set correctly. I just thought I'd see if anyone had any insight before I spend another fast $245. RE: OWA Problem
Good clue. I had the same problem after installing Exchange 2000 on a server that had previously had IIS lockdown run on it, configured for OWA 5.5. It seems that the URLscan settings (URLscan is installed by the IIS lockdown tool) from the OWA 5.5 template disallow many WebDAV verbs that are needed in OWA 2000. My solution was to take the .INI file for Exchange 2000 OWA from the latest IIS lockdown package, and save it as the URLscan.ini file on the OWA server, then restart. Sort of OT but!!!!
Hi all I have a client who is experiencing the following problem. He is receiving the virus messages for mail that he has not sent. What is happening is that someone has used his email address to proliferate the KLEZ virus and all the sites that have received it have emailed him saying that the mail that he has sent has the virus.I went through all the logs for both the exchange and the external mail interface and non of the mail was sent by him (come to that, from the site). Apart from changing his email address, dropping the old address and causing absolute bedlam is there any way of stopping this?
