RE: Arcserve and restoring public folder calander

2003-06-03 Thread Chetwood, Rachel
Hi Neil,
I think it's a permissions error. Check that you have sufficient privileges
to write to the public folder from the user running the backup.
HTH
cheers

Subject: Arcserve and restoring public folder calander

I know this is a long shot because arcserve is so crap, but I was
wondering if someone may have an answer :o

Basically ive been backing up with arcserve the public folders, today I
have needed to restore something. I have the exchange agent which as
far as I know is correctly installed, everything checks out fine anyway.
I do a restore by session, because I have given a serial number to all
the tapes in my pool by day, so I choose 104, which would be
Thursdays backup. I go to the public folders in the exchange agent, I
choose Sellafield calendar, it says that it is just over 2 meg in
size, I choose to restore to original location and click run.

The backup job runs but comes up with this message :-

E8603 Failed to write to database. (DBNAME=Public Folders\Sellafield
Calendar, EC=EXCH Exchange Agent - (402) Exchange system error.)

However, the backup seems to restore one item from the calendar. Ive
tried running it for alternate destinations, but it just crashes.

It appears that there is 2 meg of data backed up, yet it only attempts
to restore 33KB? Is there any other way of getting data off this tape?

RE: Move Mailbox problem

2002-06-26 Thread Chetwood, Rachel

Hi,
have you tried leaving it for a while? I have the same thing here where the
admin program becomes not responding but it is still working and if I
leave it, it finishes correctly. Happens every time.

 Subject: Move Mailbox problem

 Hi Everyone,

I have a new Exchange 5.5 server which I want to promote to the first site
 server.
It's all ready to go, so this morning I thought I'd start moving mailboxes
 with the
Move Mailbox tool. For some reason the tool freezes after it completes
 about
 32%
of the operation. I have tried this on two mailboxes with the same result.

They're not big mailboxes and are both under 40 MB each. Any ideas re
 this?
Also, is there another tool I could use to move mailboxes? The new server
 is
 running
Win2K Server(SP2) and all the latest patches.

 Regards
 Tony

I believe you need to leave the old server up in order for the clients to be
redirected to the new server.

We have a W2k native domain with Exchange 2k, SQL 2k and IIS all on one
 server.
We are planning to upgrade that server to a better one.
This new server _will_ have the same name as the old one.

I want to use the Swing method of moving the Exchange Users between
 servers.
 Steps:
 Old server X
 1. Introduce new server Y, join domain, make it a DC.
 2. Install E2k on server Y. Move mailboxes etc. Rehome PF F/B etc
 3. Remove the 1st Exchange server from server X. = Help here.
 article
 on how.??
 4. Transfer all 5 roles etc to Server Yswitch off server X; (demote server
 X
 first ??)
 5. Build new server X, join domain, make a DC, change roles to here
 6. Install E2k on server X, move every thing back to it. Wait a day.
 7. Do step 4.
All software that was on old server X is also installed on server Y and
 then
 back onto new server X.
 (E2k, IIS5, SQL2k,)

 Anybody do this before. ?
Do you have any comments on this. ?
Are there any documentation available on the correct procedures. ?

No. However, I am home now and I can log on through the OWA with the same
machine that I kept getting asked for my credentials while on the LAN at
work. It did take a few tried to log in. First try the OWA frames never
loadedIt said that the pages could not be displayed (IIS Default page
 not
found), I hit refresh and the NAV bar loaded. Hit refresh a third time
 and
 my inbox showed up.

Any other thoughts? Oh, did I mention that it has always worked from a
 MAC.
Even when no other client (Windows based) could connect to the OWA.

RE: Exchange 5.5 sp3 on NT 4 SP6A IS Stops

2001-11-20 Thread Chetwood, Rachel

Inoculan. I had the same problem, and by a process of elimination found that
the only thing that would stop it re-occurring was to not use inoculan. It
also just started happening out of the blue for me, and caused lots of
problems because the store would not always restart after this error, and I
had to restore.

I have had this happen twice now and am trying to figure out what is
 causing
the problem. The IS stops suddenly and I get the following message in the
event log. Event Id 125 MSExchange IS 397 unable to create log file the
Drive may be read only, out of space, misconfigured or corrupted,
error-1032. I checked the permissions and the drive/directories are not
read-only. There is 3.25 gb of free space. The server has been running for
over 5 years without any major issues. During that time is has been
 running
innoculan av software with the exchange agent and it hasn't caused a
problem. What could be causing this? Thanks, Anthony

We're talking about safe cars here?? My fiancee survived a crash last
week where she got hit in the back by an 18 wheeler .. Hit the tunnel
wall and flipped over and walked away with a few bruises. Now .. I've
done some researches on crashtests last week and apparently the Chrysler
Voyager, the current model which costs twice the amount then my fiancees
car was is nearly always fatal for the driver in a head-on collision so
an expensive car doesn't mean it is safe also ;)

RE: x400 addressing

2001-09-03 Thread Chetwood, Rachel

As I understand it, Exchange uses the X400 addresses for internal
addressing, and even if you'd never installed a X400 connector, they would
still have X400 addresses. I think this is what Ed was saying.

Just remove them in Site Addressing. However, if you do so,
  people will
  stop getting their mail.

All Exchange 5.5 recipients that you want to receive mail
  must have X.400
addresses defined. If you get rid of them, things stop

regardless of the connector you are using to connect sites.

I've removed the X400 connectors. In my opinion I should be able to remove
