Outlook to Outlook Sync
Im looking for a tool that will allow me to synchronize Outlook folders: Outlook to Outlook. Seems simple, but I havent found anything. The catch is each Outlook client is configured for a different Exchange server/organization. Im specifically trying to keep the contacts and calendar in sync. I would welcome a server (Exchange 2000) or client (Outlook 2002) based solution. I checked out all the sync tools at Slipstick; seem that none of them can do the job. Anyone have any ideas? Exch 5.5 ADC question
Hello, Scenario: we are planning to upgrade our existing NT domain w/ Exch 5.5 to a Win2000 domain. We have no plans to upgrade to Exch2000 at this time. The plan is to upgrade the NT domain to 2000, then to use the ADC to connect the 5.5 directory w/ Active Directory. The MS white paper about upgrading from 5.5 to 2000 http://www.microsoft.com/Exchange/techinfo/deployment/2000/InPlace_Up.asp states: --- Ensure That At Least One Domain in the Forest Is in Native Mode At least one of your Active Directory domains must be in native mode. This requirement allows Exchange 5.5 distribution lists to be mapped to universal distribution groups and universal security groups in Active Directory. You will configure the Active Directory Connector (ADC) to replicate distribution list objects into this native mode domain. The ADC is hard-coded to create universal distribution groups, but the Exchange Store.exe process can and will convert these to universal security groups on an as-needed basis. Universal security groups can only exist in native mode domains. If these objects exist in a mixed mode domain, the conversion will fail, an error will be logged, and your public folder permissions will fail. Now, this paper is actually talking about later upgrading to Exchange 2000, which I'm not doing. So my question is, if I'm using the ADC with 5.5, and my only Win2000 domain is in MIXED mode, will I still break, and if so, how badly? If it's only the PF permissions using DL's that are the problem, I'm not too worried, because it's a small company and there aren't too many PF's. I should be able to fix the permissions manually by re-assigning them using global groups, right? Or does 5.5 through the ADC use ONLY universal groups for PF permissions? RE: SMTP issue with Sending as Public Folder
Ok, I gave that a shot. The message appears to be sent "From" the PF. As in the PF name appears in the From field in Outlook. The only reason I clarify is that I don't do much sending on behalf of, so I'm not sure how that normally looks. But as far as I can see, I'm successfully sending AS the PF. Even when I send to a hotmail address, the PF name appears in the From field. But when you view the SMTP header (earlier in the thread), you see my address in the Return-path field. Maybe someone with a minute or two on their hands could test this, sending as a PF on their server and viewing the header, see if you get the same behavior? RE: SMTP issue with Sending as Public Folder
Naturally :) It resolves and is underlined. The SMTP reply to address for the PF is also correct. -Original Message- From: Monteleone-Haught Matt - Millville [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, December 12, 2001 11:53 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: SMTP issue with Sending as Public Folder Are you populating the 'From' box with the name of the PF? >>>-Original Message- >>>From: ExchangeList [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] >>>Sent: Wednesday, December 12, 2001 11:46 AM >>>To: Exchange Discussions >>>Subject: SMTP issue with Sending as Public Folder >>> >>> >>>Greetings all, >>> >>>I'm attempting to subscribe to the Bugtraq mailing list. SMTP issue with Sending as Public Folder
Greetings all, I'm attempting to subscribe to the Bugtraq mailing list. As I've done for other lists (including this one), I've created a public folder to receive the list messages. I've given myself rights to send as the public folder, unhidden it from the GAL, and sent a subscription message to Bugtraq as the public folder. Bugtraq replies with a confirmation message, only it comes, not to the PF, but to my inbox. Below is the header of the subscription message they received: Return-Path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: (qmail 6395 invoked from network); 12 Dec 2001 16:07:45 - Received: from mail.securityfocus.com (HELO securityfocus.com) (66.38.151.9) by lists.securityfocus.com with SMTP; 12 Dec 2001 16:07:45 - Received: (qmail 14298 invoked by alias); 12 Dec 2001 16:07:45 - Received: (qmail 14292 invoked from network); 12 Dec 2001 16:07:45 - Received: from fw-gw.stcservices.com (HELO altair.mail.stcservices.com) (205.147.247.78) by mail.securityfocus.com with SMTP; 12 Dec 2001 16:07:45 - Received: by altair.mail.stcservices.com with Internet Mail Service (5.5.2650.21) id ; Wed, 12 Dec 2001 11:11:08 -0500 Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> From: BugtraQ <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "'[EMAIL PROTECTED]'" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Date: Wed, 12 Dec 2001 11:11:05 -0500 MIME-Version: 1.0 X-Mailer: Internet Mail Service (5.5.2650.21) Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" -- As you can see, although the "From" field shows the public folder's email address, the "Return-Path" field shows MY email address. Thus the confirmation comes to me, and asks me if I want to subscribe to Bugtraq. Only I don't WANT to subscribe MikeS, I want to subscribe the PF. I'm pretty sure I subscribed to Bugtraq in this exact same way in the past at my last company. Why does my address show up in the return-path? Is this the default behavior, and I just never noticed? How can I get the PF's address to show up as the return-path?
