Anyone know how (or if) you can fix a situation where the ADC was not installed first before ForestPrep and DomainPrep were run? Basically we cannot get the Public Folders to replicate because there's no ability to set up an intersite connection. RE: Active Directory Connector
Microsoft actually recommends it a best practice to run Exchange 2003 forestprep/domainprep before installing the Exch2003 ADC. SO your issue is something else. We have done this exact scenario several times in our lab. Actually the lab is one server running VMware GSX, all 6 servers used in the test are virtual, btw this really works well and saves tons of money. Anthony L. RE: Exchange 5.5 Active Directory Connector
I actuall installed a new BDC on the network. Pulled the BDC off of the network and upgraded the newer BDC to PDC. Once I promoted the BDC to PDC, I then installed Windows 2000 and ran DCPROMO to installed Active Directory. Installed DNS and configured properly. I ran the tests and its working properly. Current Forest Root has DHCP, DNS, Wins and all the FSMO roles on the same server. Now I am trying to connect my Exchange 5.5 to this Active Directory. I hope this is clear. By the way, the reason for me doing this way is because, we want to keep the same domain name as before and very little downtime. You should find it packaged along with the Windows 2000 CD and/or Exchange 2000 CD.Installing it on your DC is straight forward. It is essentally used to migrate Ex 5.5 to ex 2000. RE: Exchange 5.5 Active Directory Connector
The reason why I didn't upgrade the current DC (PDC) to Win2K is because it is a very old box and this way I get to install it in a brand new box. Either way, the new box that I installed as a BDC gets the full SAM database since I have replicated with the PDC before I unplugged it from the network. RE: Exchange 5.5 Active Directory Connector
Our CIO would like us to upgrade one thing at a time and that's the reason why we are just upgrading to Active Directory first with out upgrading our Exchange 5.5 We will be eventually migrating from 5.5 to 2000 once the Active Directory is up and running for a while. Hope this helps. Thanks for the input by the way. RE: Exchange 5.5 Active Directory Connector
If you insist on moving to Windows 2000 that way, you will make your migration to Exchange 2000 all the more difficult. Either way, the new box that I installed as a BDC gets the full SAM database since I have replicated with the PDC before I unplugged it from the network. RE: Exchange 5.5 Active Directory Connector
Yes. Do as Mr. Hlabse advises you and upgrade the PDC of your NT domain to Active Directory. Promote a better box to PDC if necessary first. But please be sure your DNS is in ship-shape before doing that.
